BARBARA ALIENE GILSTRAP

SUNSET — Barbara Aliene Gilstrap, 88, of Sunset, passed from this life to her heavenly home on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

Barbara was born in Pickens County on Nov. 28, 1935. She was a faithful member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday school secretary for many years. Barbara was retired from Winn-Dixie Inc. as a well-known, favorite cashier.

Barbara was the fourth child of 11 children born to Clarence Elwell and Myrtie Hudson Gilstrap of Sunset.

She is survived by one brother, Clarence E. Gilstrap Jr. (Susan) of Sunset; five sisters; Myrtle Barker of Apopka, Fla., Ethel Child of Anderson, Evelyn Gilstrap of Sunset, Shirley Adams of Pickens and Faye Gilstrap of Sunset; nine nephews; seven nieces; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.

Barbara was predeceased by two sisters, Louise G. Barker and Betty G. Williams; and two brothers, B. Ernest Gilstrap and Frank W. Gilstrap.

A funeral took place on Oct. 15 at Mount Bethel United Methodist Church in Sunset, followed by

PICKENS — Each October, the hills and hollers around the Hagood Mill Historic Site in Pickens come alive with storytellers sharing the weird and wonderful, mountain funnies, memories of yesteryear and tales of mystical places in Appalachia.

PYAC to host annual Trunk or Treat Oct. 26

PICKENS – With Halloween drawing nearer, it’s time to start to planning for the holiday.

The Pickens Youth Athletic Corporation will be hosting its annual Trunk or Treat from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Bruce Field, located at 310 Planer St. in Pickens.

The event will be a free event with music, candy and lots of fun.

Plaintiff states:
1. Plaintiff has been a resident of Michigan for at least 180 days and of Wayne County for at least 10 days immediately preceding the filing of this complaint.
2. The parties were legally married in the City of Detroit, County of Wayne, State of Michigan on January 22, 2016.
3. Plaintiff is not pregnant.
4. Plaintiff’s complete name before this marriage was ELSA MARGARITA LOPEZ and is now ELSA MARGARITA SUSTAYTA.  Defendant’s complete name before this marriage was JESUS SUSTAYTA OLMEDO and remains the same.
5.  The parties have not lived together for several years.
6. There are no assets or debts to be divided as each party has been living independently for several years.
6. There has been a breakdown of the marriage relationship to the extent that the objects of matrimony have been destroyed and there remains no reasonable likelihood that the marriage can be preserved.

American Towers LLC is proposing to construct a 177-ft self-support telecommunications tower at 401 Hampton Avenue, Pickens, Pickens County, SC, Tax Parcel Number 4181-16-93-5143. The new tower will not be lit and the tower facility will include a 40-ft by 40-ft lease area and associated easements, along with a 30ft buffer surrounding the lease area.  American Towers LLC seeks comments from all interested persons on any potential significant impact the proposed action could have on the quality of the human environment pursuant to 47 C.F.R. Section 1.1307, including potential impacts to historic or cultural resources that are listed or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
