Blue Flame win 17th volleyball state title

COLUMBIA — Down 24-19 in the third set of Saturday’s Class 4A state championship with May River, the Pickens High 
School volleyball team looked to be in serious danger of falling behind 2-1 in the crucial swing set.

Pickens proves its doubters wrong
Since I started covering sports here in Pickens County in 2017, there have always been a few teams I could rely on to be contenders almost every single season. Daniel football, Liberty wrestling, Easley

Morgan to serve as CAA principal
CENTRAL — On Monday, November 18, 2024, the School District of Pickens County Board of Trustees 
approved the Superintendent’s recommendation for Mrs. Brittney Cassell Morgan to become the interim principal of Central Academy of the Arts beginning January 1, 2025. Mrs. Morgan will step into this role as the current principal, Mrs.Tish Goode, takes a leave to address personal medical needs.

County volleyball players named all-state

COUNTY — The S.C. Coaches Association for Women’s Sports (SCCAWS) announced its 2024 All-State volleyball teams earlier this month and Pickens County was well represented with four athletes being selected for the team.
Daniel High School’s Zara Russell and Sarah Ulrich, Liberty’s Payton Miller and Pickens’ Kaylon Chapman were all selected for their respective classifications.

Teenager shot dead in Easley

EASLEY — The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and the Pickens County Coroner’s Office are investigating a shooting at an Easley motel that left a teenager dead.
Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley identified the victim as 17-year-old Robert Preston Crawford.
