Mildred Himes

Eustis, Fla. — Mildred Herd Himes, 85, formerly of Liberty, passed away on April 28, 2017, at home in Florida.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of Dennis Guy and Nora Elizabeth Smith Herd. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Liberty.

Surviving are four children, Roger Johnston (Judi) of Arlington, Va., Kathy Honeycutt (Hugh) of Tavares, Fla., Frankie Long of Palmer, Ala., and Christy Hupp (Bob) of Dunedin, Fla.; six grandchildren, Chrissy King (Joe), Terri Loveless (Mitch), Austin Blair Kikta, Janie Thornley, Jennifer Dierkes and Jack Thornley; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister Gladys Rampey of Norris.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Himes; her son Ronald M. Johnston; four sisters, Edith Stansell, Nell Goudelock, Vera Littleton Wood, Elizabeth Littleton; one brother, Grady L. Herd; and one grandchild, Laura Johnston.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Himes will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 12, in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at Liberty Memorial Gardens

Calvin W. Roach

Liberty — Mr. Calvin Watson Roach, 89, husband of Mildred Mahaffey Roach, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at his home.

Born in Oconee County, the son of the late Robert Rutledge and Drucilla Carver Roach, Mr. Roach retired from Alice Manufacturing with 45 years of service and was a member of Liberty Church of God. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII. He loved God, his family, gospel music, and making people laugh.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 68 years, are a son, Randy Roach (Sherill) of Liberty; a daughter, Dianne DesRocher of Liberty; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Roach was predeceased by nine brothers, John, Jack, Rufus, Ed, Mart, Les, Ernest, Earl and Clarence Roach; and three sisters, Amanda Roach Wilson, Corrie Roach Watkins and Dora Roach Griffith.

Funeral services were held May 5 at Easley Church of God. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park with military honors.

Annie F. Looper

Easley — Annie Fendley Looper, 101, of Easley, wife of the late John Milton Looper, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017.

Born on December 31, 1915, in the Cross Roads community, she was a daughter of the late James Franklin Fendley and Lula Jane Julian Fendley.

“Granny Gran,” a loving nickname given to her by her son, Wayne, was retired from Stone Manufacturing. She was a lifelong member and the oldest member of Cross Roads Baptist Church. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed fishing, gardening, sewing and growing beautiful flowers.

Surviving are her children, Jane Looper Hipp (Bill Watkins), Sue Looper Robinson (Bill) and JB Looper (Mary); grandchildren, Tom Hipp (Susan), Beverly Hipp Dickson (Mike), Tim Robinson (Ruby), Donna Bickle (Ken), Tony Robinson (Tammy), Jimmy Looper (Cheryl), Cheri Capell (Bob); great grandchildren, Andy Robinson (Casey), Nicholas Robinson (Fiancee, Morgan), Jill Landers (Will), Sam, Eric and Grant Robinson, Casey Bickle (Brittney), Jameson Looper, Mary Katherine Capell, Ben Capell, Caroline Capell and Emily Capell; great-great grandchildren, Kennadi, Pressley, Alden and Emory; and a daughter-in-law, Sybil Looper.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Wayne Fendley Looper; a son-in-law, Edgar Hipp; two sisters; and two brothers.

Funeral services were held on May 5 at Cross Roads Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Harriet H. Lohmann

Clemson — Harriet Harper Lohmann, 64, wife of Allen Charles Lohmann, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Anderson and Evelyn Margaret Harper. Harriet attended Anderson College and has been a child care giver for many years, having most recently worked at the Clemson Child Care Development Center. She was a member of Clemson Presbyterian Church and a devout follower of Jesus Christ who is now with her Father and Redeemer.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her son, Evan Allen Lohmann of Boone, N.C.; and daughters, Sarah Margaret Lohmann of Clemson and Anna Lorraine Lohmann of Greenville.

Funeral services were on May 5 at Clemson Presbyterian Church.

There was a private family committal service on Friday at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville.

Jessie L. Wood

Easley — Jessie Beulah Mae Lanning Wood, 79, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017, at her home.

Born in Greenville County, a daughter of the late Fred Lanning Sr. and the late Bertha Bailey Lanning, Jessie retired from Alice Manufacturing’s Ellison Plant.

Surviving are one son, Carl Taplin Jr. of Easley; three daughters, Sandra Anderson (Jamie Burns) of Easley, Paulette Saavedra (Charles Zimmerman) of Liberty and Teresa Corbin of Belton; one brother, Fred Lanning Jr. of Greenville; three sisters, Doris Wood of Easley, Jan Payne of Atlanta and Nancy Donaldson of California; a special friend, Burma Nix; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, Jessie was predeceased by a son, Paul Anderson, one brother, three sisters and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 5 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

James Ray King

Easley — Mr. James Ray King, 69, husband of Evelyn Biggerstaff King, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at his home.

Born in Oconee County, the son of the late Rev. Isaac “Ray” King and the late Ethel Snelgrove King, Mr. King retired from KM Fabric and was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church in Easley.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 15 years, are a son, Jason King (Rachel) of Walhalla; a daughter, Darlene Keener (Jim) of Fredericksburg, Va.; a stepson, Tripp Duncan (Mica) of Jonesville; a stepdaughter, Brandi Duncan of Greenville; a sister, Doxie Barnes (Johnny) of Columbia; the mother of his children, Susan King of Walhalla; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 6 at Pendleton Street Baptist Church in Easley. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mary B. Crowe

Easley — Mary Brown Crowe, 82, of Highland Road, went home to be her Lord and Savior, Friday, May 5, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Burt W. and Mollie Thomas Brown.

Mrs. Crowe was retired from Saco-Lowell after 42 years of dedicated service. She was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church and was a volunteer with Baptist Easley Hospital.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Homer Crowe; a son, Ronald V. Crowe (Janis) of Easley; grandchildren, Vance Crowe and Jason Crowe (Heavenly); great-grandchildren, Justin Crowe, Brandon Crowe, Emily Sentell (David Lamar), Desiree Crowe, Aaliyah Crowe and Juliette Crowe; and a great-great granddaughter, Audrey Lamar.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held on May 7 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Bill Brooks

Easley — William Matthew “Billy” Brooks, 79, of Easley, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017, after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born at home in Liberty, he was a son of the late Walter Redmond Brooks and Inez Patterson Brooks.

Mr. Brooks was a graduate of Liberty High School and attended Clemson University. Living also in Colorado, he was a member of Lord Of The Valley Lutheran Church in Granby.

Throughout his life, Bill was involved in several career and personal endeavors. His career began as a school bus driver, followed by employment as a painter with Saco-Lowell, salesman for Liberty Life, retired as owner of Capri’s Restaurant and developed The Shoppes at Brookside. He was active in several organizations including, Easley Baptist Hospital, Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library, Easley YMCA, Special Olympics, Alzheimer’s Association, Southern Wesleyan University, Furman University, The Triune Mercy Center and others in Colorado.

He loved people, golfing, snow skiing, fishing, hunting, philanthropy and flying his planes.

Surviving are his wife, Sue Ivarson Brooks; a son, Mike Brooks (Pam); grandchildren, Matthew Brooks and Landan Brooks; brothers, Richard Brooks (Judy), Vince Brooks (Pam) and Bradley Brooks. Also, Leslie Brooks and a large extended family.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Sybil Stewart, Marion Fowler and Juanita Revis; and brothers, Jerry and Junior Brooks.

A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown Easley.

The family will gather with friends and family immediately following the service at South and West, directly across from the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the employees at Pendleton Manor, Comfort Keepers, and Gentiva Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.

Nellie B. Mason

Easley — Nellie Bell Mason, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 5, 2017.

Mrs. Mason was born in Transylvania County, N.C., a daughter of the late Justin and Bessie Aiken Morgan. She was formerly employed with The Parkette in Pickens and she was a member of the House of Prayer.

Mrs. Mason was twice married, first to the late Henry Grady Bell and then to the late Joe Mason.

Survivors include a son Donald Lee Bell of Pickens; and daughters Linda Searcy of Pickens, Barbara Ann Long (David) of Easley, Sandra Mae Durham (Dale) of Easley, and Judy Elaine Griffin (Robert) of Liberty; seven grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Peggy Searcy, and Maggie Holder and a brother Charles Morgan.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by sons William Bell and James Bell, and four grandchildren.

The family received friends at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens on May Funeral service following in the funeral home chapel. Burial was at Old Toxaway Baptist Church Cemetery near Rosman, N.C.

Larry Marsh Heinselman

Central — Larry Marsh Heinselman, 74, of Central died April 29, 2017 at his home.

Born in Mason, Iowa, he was the son of the late Cleo Wilbur and Arlene Snyder Heinselman.

Larry was a custom cabinet maker and enjoyed all forms of car racing.

Surviving are two sons, David Heinselman of Central and Brett Heinselman of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sisters, Mary Lou Price of Valencia, Calif., and Carolyn Tompkins of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; and grandchildren, Justin and Camryn Heinselman.

A private commemoration of Larry’s life will be held by the family at a later date.

Nellie Mae Maw Hendricks

PICKENS — Nellie Mae Maw Hendricks, 92, of Pickens, wife of the late Marvin David Hendricks, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Manna Health and Rehabilitation.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late John Quincy and Ida Lee Kelley Maw. Mrs. Hendricks enjoyed gardening and was a member of Pickens View Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are her two children, Orville “O.D.” Hendricks (Debbie) and Linda Howard (Stanley); two sisters, Allene Medlin and Francis Merck; three granddaughters, Lesa Howard, Marlena Waggoner, and Lauren Hendricks and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Edy Waggoner.

Mrs. Hendricks was also predeceased by three brothers and one sister.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, at Dillard Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens, with the Rev. Lewis Edwards officiating.

Mary Ethel Kelly

Pickens — Mary Ethel Kelly, 93, of Pickens, went home to be with her Savior on Thursday, May 4, 2017.

Born in Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Florence Moore. A homemaker for the majority of her life, she was well-known for her pound cakes, love of gardening, bird watching and spending time with her family. Mrs. Kelly was a member of East Pickens Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Kelly; a son, Roger Kelly; brothers, John and Clyde Moore; sisters, Beulah Atkins and Grace Bolt; granddaughter, Stacy Griggs; and great-grandsons, Clayton Alexander and Evan Clark.

Surviving are her daughters, Jerilynn Alexander (Milton) of Six Mile, Elaine Reid (Winfred) of Salem, Becky Roberson (David) of Greenville, Freda Clark (Ronnie) of Dacusville, Phyllis Barnette (Claude) of Pickens, Vickie Kelly of Pickens and Kim Anderson (Rick) of Anderson; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Alice Kelly, Nell Poston, Gladys Reece, and Joan Rollins; and a brother, Gene Moore.

Funeral services were held May 8 at Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens.

Joyce Ann Mosley

Six Mile — Joyce Ann Mosley, 66, went to be with the Lord Friday May 05, 2017.

She was born in Anderson the daughter of the late Elizabeth Fant McAlister and Hoyle McAlister.

Survivors include one son, Matthew Mosley (fiancé Chapin) of Pickens.

Mrs. Mosley was predeceased by her parents, two daughters; Jessica Lynn Mosley and Sherry Ann Mosley Randale.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Mountain View Funeral Home is serving the Mosley family.
