PICKENS — On Friday, Feb. 13, volunteers from the greater Pickens area will come together at the fourth iHOPE Day of Service.

iHOPE’s mission is to promote the spirit and value of volunteerism, increase the awareness of local needs and demonstrate what people working together for the community good can accomplish.

Since its inception in 2013, iHOPE has grown to include residents from the Vineyards community, members of Griffin Ebenezer Baptist Church, Pickens Presbyterian Church, youth groups and residents who want to give back.

The day will begin with an orientation at Pickens Presbyterian Church, 311 W. Main St., Pickens, at 10 a.m.

Volunteers will be assigned to projects that may include light housekeeping and yard work for homebound seniors, easy administrative work for local non-profits and fun activities at the Liberty Senior Center.

Organizers also need “hygiene kits” for Family Promise of Pickens County and Meals on Wheels. This is a great project for youth groups, service clubs, neighborhoods and Sunday school classes. Items are packed in plastic bags, can be made ahead and delivered to Pickens Presbyterian Church the morning of the event.

Hygiene kits for homeless families and homebound seniors should include a wide-tooth comb, a bath-size bar of soap in wrapper, toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner.

Family Promise of Pickens County also needs “baby care kits.” Items include wipes, diaper rash cream, baby shampoo/wash, baby powder and bibs.

Items must be sealed in a one-gallon plastic bag with a zipper closure and dropped off at Pickens Presbyterian Church on Friday, Feb. 13.
