COUNTY — The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and Easley Police Department have partnered with Cannon Memorial and Baptist Easley Hospitals to participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s “National Pill Take-Back Day,” Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
The general public can prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
Last September in the first prescription drug take-back day, Americans turned in more than 121 tons of prescription drugs nationwide. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high with a majority of the abused prescription drugs coming from family and friends, including home medicine cabinets.
Drop-off sites in Pickens County on April 30 between 10a.m and 2:p.m. are Cannon Memorial Hospital, located at 123 Acker Drive in Pickens, and Baptist Easley hospital, at 202 Fleetwood Drive in Easley.
