CLEMSON — Bertha Stroneski Duran, 95, of 205 Blue Ridge Drive, died peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Lila Doyle Nursing Home in Seneca.

Born in New London, Conn., she was the widow of Eloy A. Duran and a daughter of the late Charles and Helen Snoesky Stronesky. She worked in manufacturing prior to retirement and was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving are a daughter, Joyce Jones of Clemson, three grandchildren, Kathryn Whitehurst (Trey), Neal and Douglas Jones; three great-grandchildren, Spencer and Daniel Whitehurst, and Shayne Jones; a niece, Linda Scacciaferro, and two nephews, Vance and Bryce Stronesky.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Eggleson, two brothers, Joseph and John Stroneski, and two grandchildren, Steven and Karen Jones.

The family will have services and burial at a later date in Connecticut.

In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.

JAMES EDWARD COLE, SR

EASLEY — Mr. James Edward Cole, Sr., 81, husband of the late Carolyn Newell Cole, died Monday, March 2, 2015, at his home.

Born in Oconee County, the son of the late Thomas Millard and Mildred Lois Shirley Cole, Mr. Cole was a retired sergeant with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, where he served from 1958 until 1978. James later retired from Michelin with 15 years of service and was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.

Surviving are a son, James Edward Cole, Jr. (Kay) of Easley; a daughter, Elaine Cole Lockhart (Kenny) of Easley; two sisters, Shelby Woolbright of Seneca and Mary Ransom of Cleveland, Tenn.; and two grandchildren, Tyler Bradley and Adison Caroline Dacus.

Funeral services were held at noon Thursday, March 5, in the Chapel of Reflections Mausoleum of Robinson Memorial Gardens, with S.C. Highway Patrol honors.

BEN HENDRICKS

EASLEY — Ben Hendricks, 78, of Zion Church Road, died Monday, March 2, 2015, in Okeechobee, Fla.

Born in Liberty, a son of the late Edwin Franklin and Tennie Looper Hendricks, Mr. Hendricks retired as a supervisor with American Enka and later drove tour buses for Charter Coach Company. He was a member of Bates Masonic Lodge and Hejaz Shrine Scottish Rite. Mr. Hendricks was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Maybelle Bagwell Hendricks of the home; a brother, James Hendricks (Elma) of Lakeland, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hendricks was predeceased by a brother, Harold Hendricks, and by a sister, Annie Laura Findley.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Lynn Turner

Liberty — Charlotte Lynn Holder Turner, 60, of 162 Freedom Forest Drive, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Calvin and Ola Mae Brown Holder.

She was a homemaker and loved arts and crafts.

Surviving are her husband, Jerry L. Turner of the home; a sister, Carolyn Nix (Don) of Liberty; a brother, Thomas Holder (Ann) of Liberty; four sisters in law, Judy Howard, Dorothy Weber, Sharon Gray, and Vickie Black; a brother in law, Ed Turner, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services to honor Lynn’s life were held at 11 a.m. March 10 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family received friends prior to the service.

Carree McKinney

Easley — Mrs. Carree Lewis McKinney, 92, wife of the late Hugh Dean McKinney, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Eugene Alexander and Maude Smith Lewis, Mrs. McKinney was a graduate of Pickens High School, Lander College and later Clemson University, where she earned her Master’s degree. Mrs. McKinney taught algebra, calculus and physics over the course of her 30-plus years in education. She retired from the School District of Pickens County as the assistant principal of Easley High School. Carree had a passion for gardening and bird watching.

Surviving are two sons, Tom McKinney (Kay), and Gene McKinney (Vickie), all of Easley; six grandchildren, Robin Pope, Karen Hernandez, Daniel McKinney, Bill McKinney, Robert McKinney, and Anna McKinney; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. McKinney was predeceased by three brothers, Clyde, Olin and Alex Lewis; and two sisters, Rachel Dunlap and Sybil Reece.

Funeral services were held on March 10 at Georges Creek Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Donald R. Wike

Easley — Donald Raymond Wike, 79, of Easley, husband of the late Janet Hooper Wike, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015, in Columbia.

Born in Lyman, a son of the late Clarence and Lozie Wilson Wike, Mr. Wike was a commercial HVAC technician for many years at Freeman Mechanical, Inc. and retired from Stover Mechanical. He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his children, Donna Wike Murray, David Wike (Diana), and Elaine Wike Knox (Karl); grandchildren, Jake Murray (Deirdre), Jillian Murray, Krissy Wike and Drew Wike, and great-granddaughter, Molly Murray. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Wike was predeceased by a brother, Bob Wike.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Memorials may be given to Ebenezer Baptist Church (New Facilities Fund), 524 S. Ebenezer Road, Florence, SC 29501.

Joyce Mae Puckett

Batesburg — Joyce Mae Puckett, 88, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2015.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on March 4, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Ridge Crest Memorial Park

The Rev. Dennis Metts officiated the service.

The pallbearers were Christopher Leaphart, Jamie Bagwell, Todd Hallman, Brian Rauton, Jeff Storey, Roddy Storey and Greg Rauton.

Mrs. Puckett was born in Agar, S.D., daughter of the late Frank and Nellie Suman Weischedel. She was married to the late Willard Puckett. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

Surviving are her children, Peggy Maroney (John) of Batesburg; Judy Rauton (Laurie Brown) of Aiken; Lynette Troutman (Benny) of Batesburg; Debra Bar-dov of Pickens; Frank Puckett (Kay) of Batesburg; Gloria Allen (Ron) of Roanoke, Va.; Diane Puckett (Donnie) of Batesburg; and Kim Leaphart of Batesburg; brother, Bud Weischedel of Texas; sister, Irma Brandt of South Dakota; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Compassionate Hospice for their love and care.
