EASLEY — Easley Police Chief Danny Traber has announced his plans for retirement after serving more than three decades with the police department.

“After 35 1/2 years, it’s time to move on and do some of the things I’ve always wanted to do while I’m still young enough to do them,” Traber said.

Traber has been police chief for 16 years.

“It doesn’t seem like 16 years,” Traber said. “It’s been a good ride.”

Traber won’t be involved in naming his replacement, but he hopes Major Tim Tollison will be considered.

“He’s very qualified,” Traber said. “He has 23 years of experience, the same college degrees I have, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He graduated from Easley High School, so he knows this area. He’s an Easley guy.”

The decision will be up to Easley Mayor Larry Bagwell and Easley City Council.

Traber said he hopes to be able to spend time with his two grandchildren and other family members his retirement. He is already looking forward to next football season and attending Clemson games.

“Plus, it won’t be too much longer until hunting season,” said Traber, an avid hunter. “And I’m sure there will be plenty of household duties for me to do.”

Looking toward retired life, Traber does not see that much of a break.

“Gosh,” he said.”It’s looking like it will be December before I’ll be able to just enjoy my retirement.”
