Ceremony held to honor soldiers at Pickens Chapel
COUNTY — Members from Oconee, Pickens, and Anderson counties of the Skyagunsta Society of the National Society Children of the American Revolution (CAR) participated in a special
ceremony held at historic Pickens Chapel Cemetery and hosted by the Pickens County Historical Society as part of the Reunion of Upcountry Families.
There are 27 known soldiers who participated in the American Revolution buried in the cemetery. In addition, there are many veterans from the War of 1812, the Florida War, the Civil War and later wars.
Pickens Chapel was marked in 1980 by the Colonel John Robins Chapter of Pickens.
The event was the first meeting of Skyagunsta Society that president Anna Haskins presided over for her 2015-2016 term.
