Man faces child porn charges

CENTRAL — A Central man was arrested Thursday after child pornography was allegedly found on his computer.

John Paul James, 42, of 224 Boggs Road, was charged with second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and 10 counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to a news release from the office of South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson.

Investigators said James was involved in child pornography via file sharing, the release said.

A search warrant was obtained and executed at James’ home on Thursday. After a preliminary investigation allegedly revealed files containing child pornography, James was arrested.

The attorney general’s office, a member of the Internet Crimes against Children Task Force, made the arrest. The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.

The attorney general’s office will prosecute the case, and James faces up to 10 years in prison for each of the 11 counts if convicted.

James was released from the Pickens County Detention Center on a total $100,000 surety bond on Friday.
