• Soapstone to host

fundraiser Saturday

Soapstone Church is inviting everyone to a special fundraiser at the church, located at 296 Liberia Road in Pickens, this Saturday, June 20. The event will feature fine cooking and will be held from noon-8 p.m.

Visitors will enjoy true southern cooking including a fish fry, barbecue and fried chicken with all the fixings right from Mrs. Mabel’s kitchen.

• Music on the Market

on Friday in Easley

The City of Easley has planned the Gilstrap Family Dealerships’ Music on the Market on Friday nights through this month. The events will take place from 7-10 p.m. in Old Market Square in Downtown Easley. This Friday, June 19, will feature Whitten City News. Everyone is asked to bring dancing shoes and a blanket or chair. There will be food for sale and a free children’s play area.

• Mt. Tabor Baptist

plans VBS June 22-25

Mt. Tabor Baptist Church is set to hold its Vacation Bible School from June 22-25. The theme of this year’s VBS is “Camp Discovery” Jesus at Work Through Us. • Gospel singing set

at Clear Crystal Hall

An outdoor singing is set for the Clear Crystal Music Hall on June 27, starting at 2 p.m. Many groups will perform. The music hall is located at 3526 Six Mile Highway in Central.

• Alzheimer’s program

planned at Cannon

In honor of those affected by Alzheimer’s, Cannon Memorial Hospital and the Greenville Alzheimer’s Association will hold an educational program on “The Basics of Alzheimer’s” on Thursday, June 25, from 10-11 a.m. in the classroom at Cannon. If you or someone you know is affected by Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, it’s time to learn the facts. The program provides information on detection, causes and risk factors, stages of the disease, treatment and much more.

• Cannon sets date for

annual blood drive

Cannon Memorial Hospital will hold its second annual Michael Siders Memorial Blood Drive on Monday, June 22, from 2-6 p.m. in the hospital’s front parking lot. AnMed Health Blood Mobile will be on site to work with donors. To schedule a time, call Kathryn Gravely at (864) 898-1252 prior to June 22. Walkups are welcome, but scheduled times are preferred.

• Quickwitz to host

workshop at Cannon

Cannon Memorial Hospital and QuickWitz will also hold a workshop in the Cannon classroom on June 25 from 3-4 p.m. The workshop will focus on QuickWitz, a mental fitness program designed to maximize mental ability. It is composed of hands-on, fun and interactive activities designed to help the aging brain get sharp and stay sharp. The QuickWitz workshop will be limited to only 25 participants. • Pickens Lions plan

meetings each month

The Pickens Lions Club is in need of new members. The club meets the first and third Thursday of every month at Pizza Inn in Pickens. Dinner begins at 6:40 p.m., and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. Meetings are open to anyone interested in joining the club or simply finding out more about the club and how it serves Pickens.

• Celebrate America

Festival is July 3-4

The City of Easley and Gilstrap Family Dealerships’ Celebrate America Festival will be held on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, from 2-10 p.m. both days. The event will be held at Old Market Square in downtown Easley. The city’s Celebrate America is one of the oldest and largest festivals in the area. This two-day event is great family fun with vendors and carnival rides. There will be a free concert each night and one of the best fireworks displays in the Upstate on the night of July 4.
