Red Cross Golf Tournament raises upwards of $16,000

PICKENS — Last month, the American Red Cross of Pickens County hosted its 13th annual golf tournament at Smithfields Country Club in Easley. An inaugural ladies tournament was also held in April at The Rock at Jocassee. These tournaments netted more than $16,000.
“We are especially appreciative of everyone who supported this year’s tournament,” said Sarah Dow, director of American Red Cross of Pickens County. “Times are tough, and it is inspiring to see so many individuals and organizations give generously of their time and financial resources to help our neighbors during their time of need.”
In first place for the men’s teams was Servpro of Northern Spartanburg County. The team won four rounds of golf at each of the following courses: Pickens Country Club, Falcon’s Lair, Boscobel and Cobb’s Glen. In the ladies tournament, Kentwool took home first place.
Funds from the Red Cross golf tournament go toward helping the needs of local people such as John Rasmussen’s family. Last February, Rasmussen was informed that a fire had destroyed his daughter’s house. Because of fundraising events such as these, the Red Cross was able to arrive at the scene with shelter, comfort and hope. Rasmussen said that he “could not ask for a greater level of assistance.”
The American Red Cross would like to acknowledge itssponsors: Kentwool, Catering Etc, Complete Commercial Solutions, Cromer Food Services, Easley Combined Utilities, Servpro, Spectrum Commercial Properties, TaylorMade, Wal-Mart, Budweiser of Greenville, Coca-Cola, and WCCP 104.9 The Drive for their generous donations and support.
A special thank you goes to the volunteers from Easley Junior Women’s Club and SunTrust.
“Your time and effort was greatly appreciated,” Dow said.
