PICKENS — A well-known Pickens physician and former chief of staff at Cannon Memorial Hospital died Saturday.
Dr. David Wayman Mauldin, 80, of Pickens, passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, at his home.
Sen. Larry Martin remembers Mauldin as a “fine family physician.”
“He was much-beloved by the Pickens community and all the lives he touched beyond,” Martin said. “He was respected for his medical knowledge and the heart that he put into his work.”
Martin knew Mauldin both through his medical practice and his former neighbor, the late Jessie Holder, who was Mauldin’s sister.
“He was one of our great senior family physicians,” Martin said. “He touched and blessed so many lives.”
Born in Liberty, Mauldin was the son of the late Wayman and Maude Chalmers Mauldin.
Dr. Mauldin was a retired general practitioner, having served the Pickens area for more than 37 years. He was a former chief of staff with Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Patricia Clayton Mauldin; a son David Clayton Mauldin (Kathy) of Conway; a daughter, Ashley Mauldin Bray (Warren) of Greenville; two grandchildren, Caitlyn Bledsoe and Ned Bray; and a sister, Milwee Schooley of Pickens.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Mauldin was predeceased by a brother, Mason Mauldin and two sisters, Tabitha Mauldin and Jessie Holder.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
