Easley Community Leader Barbary Dies
Eddie Barbary
Easley — James Edward “Eddie” Barbary, 67, of Easley, husband of the late Charlene Skelton Barbary, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at McCall Hospice House.
Born in Greenville, the son of Betty Hamby Barbary of Simpsonville and the late Donald Odell “Red” Barbary, Eddie was a graduate of Hillcrest High School and Clemson University where he played baseball and where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in English and Education and his Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision. He played professional baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Organization and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having graduated from the U.S. Army Drill Sergeant School at Fort Gordon, Ga. and was Post Soldier of the Month in June of 1969. Eddie was formerly principal of Simpson Academy, Gettys Middle School and assistant principal at Easley High School where he was head baseball coach from 1971-1974 and from 1980-1986 and was named head coach of the SC High School League North All-Stars. He was also formerly the Easley High head basketball coach where they won five Region I-4A championships and were 1976 SC Upper-State Champions. As head coach, Eddie had an overall record of 148-86 and was named head coach of the SC High School League Upper-State North All-Stars in 1981. He was also a former Easley High assistant football coach where he was the offensive coordinator from 1979-1986. Eddie organized and coached the Easley American Legion Baseball Team from 1972-1979 and was a coach at the Bill Wilhelm Baseball Camp at Clemson University from 1975-1984.
He organized and served as advisor for the INTERACT Club, which is sponsored by the Rotary Club, and was named Outstanding Young Educator by the Easley Jaycees in 1976. Eddie was a member of Easley Presbyterian Church. He was a former member of the adult choir and served as a Deacon and an Elder. 
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a son, Travis Barbary and wife, Raquel, of Greenville; a daughter, Elizabeth Barbary Nix and husband, Marvin, of Central; a sister, Jane Barbary Jones of Gray Court; three step-sons, Charles McClure King and wife, Mackenzie, of Atlanta, Kendall McCreight King and wife, Sarah Kathryn, of Greenville and Walker McClain King of Charleston; and grandchildren, Chase Barbary, Colton Barbary, Carsyn Leigh Barbary, Cannon Barbary, Garrett Nix and Graydon Nix.     
Memorial services were 4 p.m. Thursday at Easley Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Christie Gravely and Stuart Houston officiating.

Brenda G. Oglesby
Easley — Mrs. Brenda Gillespie Oglesby, 69, wife of Fred Oglesby, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at North Greenville Hospital, Travelers Rest.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Truman and Ellen McAbee Gillespie, Mrs. Oglesby enjoyed reading, gardening, hunting, and fishing.
Surviving are five sons, Jody, Steve, Stan, Scott, and Sidney Oglesby; a brother, Pete Hawkins; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Oglesby was predeceased by a son, Michael Anthony Waldrop; a brother, Dewitt Gillespie; and a sister, Joyce Hughes.
Funeral services were held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Peggy Lesley
Easley — Peggy Diane Lesley, 65, died Monday, April 23, 2012 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Virgil Eugene and Ora Briggs Lesley, Miss Lesley was a retired Insurance Clerk and a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Tonya Hardee (Mark) of Liberty, Monique Acuff (Sean) of Piedmont and Christina Johnson (Ronnie) of Easley; two brothers, Virgil E. Lesley, Jr. (Kathy) of Liberty and Ronnie Lesley (Linda) of Easley; one sister, Judy L. Stewart of Liberty; eight grandchildren, Ben, Travis, Jordan, Colby, Mckenzie, Briggs, Zoe and Caden; and numerous friends she considered family.
Memorial services were 2 p.m. Thursday, April 26 at Brushy Creek Baptist Church.

Inez C. Ramey
Easley — Mrs. Inez Cannon Ramey, 92, wife of the late Steve E. Ramey, died Monday, April 23, 2012.
Born in Oconee County, a daughter of the late Luther and Lola Crowe Cannon, Mrs. Ramey was retired from Piedmont Shirt Company in Pickens and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are two sons, Willie and Willis Ramey, both of Dacusville; two daughters, Betsy Lee of Easley,and Bonnie Waddell of Pickens; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ramey was predeceased by two daughters, Dale and Rachel Ramey, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April, 26 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Boone’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Salem.

Amber Martin Wells
Six Mile — Amber M. Wells, 58, wife of Rocky Wells, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at her home.
Born in Albuquerque, N.M. a daughter of Lula Bodenhamer of Asheville, N.C. and the late Harry Martin. Amber will be remembered as a loving wife and mother as well as a lover of animals.
Survivors include her husband, Rocky of the home, a son; Captain Joshua Allen Wells, U.S.M.C., Twenty Nine Palms, Calif., two daughters; Kelli Clay of Asheville, N.C., Silver Clay of Six Mile, a sister; Teresa M. Eveland of Wartrace, Tenn., two brothers; Roger Sinck of Asheville, N.C., Clark Sinck of Huntsville, Ala. and four grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. Bobby Stewart.

Jessica Marie Parnell Tronetti
Easley — Jessica Marie Parnell Tronetti, 21, of Easley, Wife of Nicholas C. Tronetti, died Tuesday April 24, 2012 at Easley Baptist Hospital.
Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of Rodger and Renee Parnell. She was a lover of Broadway shows, photography and animals and was a volunteer for Speak for Animals.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by her two sisters, Christy Parnell Miller and Shannon Seymore Hawkins; as well as her paternal grandparents, Carl “Papa” and Carolyn Parnell Turner.
Preceding her in death is her maternal grandmother, Frances Inez Weaver.
Funeral service was held at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest on Saturday, April 28 at 1:30 p.m., burial followed at Graceland Cemetery West.

Charlie M. Holcombe

Liberty — Charlie McGuinn Holcombe, 90, husband of the late Marie Black Holcombe, died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at his home.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Joseph Richard and Olga Ada Sanders Holcombe, Mr. Holcombe retired as owner of Holcombe’s Meat and Grocery and was a member of Carolina Community Church. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army.
Surviving are two sons, Joe Holcombe (Janice), and Sam Holcombe, all of Liberty; two daughters, Joyce H. Stokes of Easley, and Ann Griffin (Gerald) of Liberty; two brothers, Bill Holcombe and Ralph Holcombe, both of Easley; two sisters, Mildred Gantt of Liberty and Peggy Holcombe of Easley; seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Holcombe was predeceased by three brothers, Hayward Holcombe, Edward “Bud” Holcombe and John Holcombe and by two sisters, Etheleen Gantt and Geraldine Wyatt.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Golden Grove Wesleyan Church Cemetery.

Frankie Helen Shelton
Pickens — Frankie Helen Shelton, 82, wife of the late George Walter Shelton, Sr. died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Heritage Health Care in Six Mile.
Mrs. Shelton was born in Jackson County, N.C. a daughter of the late Wilburn and Gertrude Reece Shelton. She was retired after 50 years service from Runnymeade (now Kent Manufacturing) in Pickens and was of the Church of God Faith.
Survivors include sons Devon Shelton and Ken Shelton both of Lexington, George Shelton, Jr. of Dade City, Fla. and Robert Shelton of Pickens, also daughters Elwyn Thompson of Anderson, Frankie Shelton of Pickens and Sandra Martin of Liberty. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and sisters Mary Dee Bruner and Geraldine Whitmire both of Rosman, N.C.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by a daughter Gail Durham.
The funeral service was Friday, April 27 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Nina Fulton
Easley — Nina Powell Fulton, 86, of Easley died April 26, 2012.
She was born in Port Wentworth, Ga. to Charles Henry and Virginia McRae Powell.
She lived a life devoted to the love and well-being of her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Janis Fulton Crowe and her husband Ron Crowe of Easley, and two sons, Daniel Ernest Fulton and wife Lorene Fulton of Cedar Mountain, N.C. and Stephen David Fulton and wife Sherry Fulton of Franklin, Tenn. Six grandchildren, Ronald Vance Crowe, II of Liberty, William Jason Crowe of Greenville, Ernest Andrew Fulton of Jacksonville, Fla., Adam David Fulton of Franklin, Tenn., Christopher Daniel Fulton of Oak Harbor, Wash. and Alycia Anne Fulton of Charlotte, N.C. and five great grandchildren.
She was the last surviving member of her family. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ernest Lindner Fulton, Jr.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday, April 29 2 p.m. at the Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.

Dorothy D. Payne
Pickens — Dorothy Dixon Payne, 81, wife of the Rev. William Ewell “Bill” Payne of Pickens, died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at her home.
Mrs. Payne was born in Thomasville, N.C., a daughter of the late Robert Scott and Mary Fitzgerald Dixon. She was retired from the Pickens County School District after 37 years service as a teacher. Mrs. Payne served schools in North Carolina, West End Elementary in Easley and later at Pickens Elementary School. Mrs. Payne was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a graduate of Mars Hill College, Western Carolina University and studied at Furman University.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 61 years, Bill, are daughters Kathy Barnett (Richard) of Easley, Elizabeth Seay (Al) of Gastonia, N.C. and Susan Walters (Carl) of Reevesville. Grandchildren include Kristin Cassell, Justin Cassell, Brandon McCombs, Brian McCombs, Christopher Seay, Jim Barnett, Shannon Seay, Carrie Anne Seay, Whitney Mellis, and Jessica Shieder. Great grandchildren include Jonathan Cardona, Lexi Cassell, Maci and Chance Mellis, Ashton Seay, and Evie Seay. Brothers include Edward Dixon of Texas, Thomas Earl Dixon and Paul Donald Dixon both of Penderlea, N.C. and sisters Ruth Shutt of Elkin, N.C., Mary L. Benton of Watha, N.C. and Margaret McCoy of Burgaw, N.C. and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted 12 p.m. Tuesday, May 1 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Shelby Jean Tallman
Six Mile — Shelby J. Tallman, 67, wife of the late Theodore B. Tallman died Monday, April 30, 2012 at Cannon Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pickens County a daughter of the late James A. and Thelma Medlin Revis she was a homemaker and a member of Winding Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include six sons; Michael A. Tallman, Dennis R. Tallman, Richie L. Tallman, Edwin E. Tallman, Ron B. Tallman, and Ted A. Tallman, a brother; Grady Charles Revis, 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 2 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens conducted by the Rev. Richard Hayes.

Ronald “Ron” Craig Mitchell
Easley — Ron Mitchell, 68, of 117 Shady Lane, peacefully died on Sunday April 29, 2012, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Ron was a son of the late Clarence and Jeannette Mitchell. He was happily married to the late Carolyn Looper Mitchell for 18 years. Ron was an active member of Cross Roads Baptist Church and retired from Danfoss Fluid Power of Easley.
Surviving are a son, Kelly Mitchell and wife Kathleen of Greenville; a daughter, Gina Moon and a son Ben Ferguson and Stella White of Pickens; two sisters Nora Fiske of Greer and Carol Gronhagen of Rhode Island. Also surviving is a granddaughter Bradlee Moon and a large, loving extended family.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ronald was preceded in death by a son Brad Ferguson.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 2 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Entombment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.
