Masked gunmen tie, beat elderly couple

PUMPKINTOWN — The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a home invasion in which two elderly victims were beaten and tied after two masked gunmen forced their way into their home early Monday morning.
The victims, a 79-year-old man and his 76-year-old wife, were in their bedroom when the two masked men broke into their home, one armed with a handgun, and entered into their bedroom. The suspects attacked the husband, hitting him several times with an unknown object and causing several wounds on the victim, according to police reports.
According to deputies, the victims said the men took several firearms and left with the firearms only to return moments later. The victims said the men grabbed the wife, tied her hands with twist ties and told her not to fight them, forcing her to sit on a stool at the foot of the bed.
The victims said the men asked “where is the safe?,” and said “Travis told us you had a safe.”
The wife told the assailants the safe was under the bed, and both victims later told officers that they do not know anyone named Travis.
As of press time, no arrests have been made. The victims described both men as stocky and around 5’8” tall.
The case is still under investigation by the Pickens County Sheriff’s office. Anyone with information is asked to call Pickens County CrimeStoppers at (864) 898-KOPS.
