Final school board budget hikes taxes
PICKENS — Despite chairman Phillip Bowers’ motion to the contrary, the Pickens County School Board recently passed third and final reading of the fiscal year 2018 general fund budget that includes a 2-mill tax increase.
Bowers and trustee Henry Wilson voted against increasing operating millage by 2 mills, while trustees Brian Swords, Betty Bagley, Betty Garrison and Shannon Haskett voted in favor.
Bowers said he had several reasons for opposing the tax increase.
