Steven C. Porter
Easley — Mr. Steven Craig Porter, 25, of Denver, N.C., and formerly of Easley, died Sunday, July 8, 2012.
Born in Easley, a son of Bradley Craig Porter and Linda Chapman Byrd, Mr. Porter was an honors graduate from Spartanburg Community College where he earned his degree in Radiation Technology. He was employed with Duke Energy and a member of Geer Memorial Baptist Church. Steven had a passion for the outdoors where he loved boating and fly-fishing.
Surviving are his father, Bradley Craig Porter and his father’s fiancee’, Susette Hieronymus, of Spartanburg; his mother, Linda Chapman Byrd and her husband, Jeff, of Pumpkintown; one brother, Michael Porter of Easley; grandparents, Harold and Judy Porter of Easley and Doris Chapman of Pickens.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday, July 12 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

J.D. “Shakey” Horton

Central — John Doc “Shakey” Horton, 85, of 504 Tarrant Street and husband of Eloise Nalley Horton, died Monday, July 9, 2012.
Born in Asheville, N.C., he was a son of the late Millard and Olivia Collins Horton.  Shakey was a graduate of Central High School, was a long time shop foreman for Central Concrete and Plaster Company and formerly owned and operated the Horton Sand Company.  He was a U.S. Army veteran, a longtime member of the Central Volunteer Fire Department and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home, are two sons, Mike (Julie) Horton of Harrison, Tenn. and Don (Ruth)Horton of Knoxville, Tenn.; one daughter, Joyce (Neal) Anderson of Georgetown; one sister, Betty Parker of Central; one brother-in-law, Bill Nalley of Jonesboro, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Heather Dabbs, Seth and Paige Horton, Courtney Koonce and Taylor Anderson; three great-grandchildren, Zoee, Pearce and Neal; and two step-great-grandchildren Caroline and Jackson.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Jonathan Horton; and two sisters, Edna Holliday and Bernice Loggins.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Central.

Earl Brown

Six Mile — John Earl Brown, Sr., 89, of Kelly Mill Road, died peacefully on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Norris, he was the widower of the late Ruby Riggins Brown and the son of the late A.B. and Ella Owens Brown. He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired brick mason and farmer and was very active with the Farm Bureau, Cattleman’s Association and Six Mile Water District. He was also a Past Master at Six Mile Masonic Lodge #339, A.F.M. and was a member of Prater’s Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Wanda Scales and her husband Larry of Spartanburg and Betty McCord and her husband Pat of Cedar Bluff, Ala.; a son, John Earl Brown, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Norris; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Brown were held 3 p.m. Monday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial with Masonic rites was at Hillcrest Memorial Park following the service.

Lucille Cassell Turner
Easley — Artie Lucille Cassell Turner, 87, of 258 Mulberry Road, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Pickens County, Mrs. Turner was a daughter of the late Earley Pinkney and Rebecca Gilstrap Cassell. She retired in 1987 from Alice Manufacturing Company, and she attended Free Wesleyan Church.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, William Fred Turner, of the home; one son, Daniel M. Turner (Sheila) of Easley; three sisters, Geneva Chappell of Pickens, Ruby Dell Simmons of Easley, and Myrtle Hester of Liberty; one granddaughter, Rebecca Nicole Gilstrap; and one great-grandchild, Benjamin Gilstrap. Mrs. Turner was predeceased by four brothers, Harold, James, Jesse, and Hovie Cassell; one grandchild, Courtney Mae Turner; and one grandson-in-law, John Gilstrap.
Funeral services were 3 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Bessie Turner
Easley — Bessie Turner, 100, formerly of Easley, died Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Countryside Village.
Born in Anderson County, a daughter of the late Noah Turner and Oma Treffie Woodall Turner. Miss Turner retired from Alice Manufacturing after 52 years of service and was a member of (Arial) United Wesleyan Church and Ladies Bible Class.
Surviving are two brothers, Fred, and Claude Turner.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by five brothers, Clarence, J.B, Bill, Laudon and Ped Turner; four sisters, Daisy Dalton, Grace Pickett, Burice Patterson and Josephine Swafford.
Funeral services were 3 p.m. Sunday, July 15 at (Arial) United Wesleyan Church Easley. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Nell Smith Hamilton
Easley — Mrs. Mary “Nell” Smith Hamilton, 95, wife of the late Norman L. Hamilton, died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Benjamin T. and Minnie Kay Smith, Mrs. Hamilton was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Easley, where she belonged to the Fidelis Sunday School Class.
Surviving are two daughters, Lynn Shutze (Michael W.) of Athens, Ga. and Elizabeth Plexico (John E.) of N. Augusta; four grandchildren, Andrea Alexander, Alina Brooks, Angela Owen and John Norman Plexico; and three great-grandchildren, Haley Brooks, Hunter Brooks and Devin Plexico Owen.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hamilton was predeceased by two brothers, Hal and B.T. Smith; and four sisters, Helen Dover, Emily Davis, Sybil Sloan and Evelyn McCall.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 17 in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Easley with the Rev. Dr. John Adams officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Escort of Honor was the Fedelis Sunday School Class.

B. P. Ellenburg ************
Easley – B. P. Ellenburg, 92 husband of the late Leona Marie McCall Ellenburg, formerly of Church Road, died, Friday, July 13, 2012 at The Magnolias of Easley.
Born in Pickens County he was a son of the late John and Ida Crenshaw Ellenburg. Mr. Ellenburg was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, a member of Arial Baptist Church, and was retired as owner and operator of Ellenburg and Son Logging Company.
Surviving Mr. Ellenburg are a son; Bennie and his wife Martha Ellenburg of Pickens, and a sister; Esther Murphree of Six Mile.
Mr. Ellenburg was predeceased by his parents, his wife and nine brothers and sisters; Doyle Ellenburg, Lyde Underwood, Grace Galbraith, Bowen Ellenburg, Cote Ellenburg, John Frank Ellenburg, O. V. Ivester, Leon Ellenburg, and Janie Redmon.
Funeral service was 3 p.m. Monday, July 16 at Dillard Funeral Home chapel. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens Mausoleum with Military Honors.

Easley – Frances “Fran” Kathleen Skelton, 90, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at her residence.
Born in Easley, to the late Fletcher and Buggie Masters Skelton, Fran was a graduate of Pickens High School, and afterwards, an accountant for McClain Accounting. She enjoyed doing crafts and was a member of the Ladies VA #9273.
Surviving are a nephew, Stan Skelton (Jo Lynn), of Greenville; a great nephew, Grant Skelton (Stephanie), of Easley; a great niece, Stacy Ferguson (Herb), of Charlotte; a sister-in-law, Ruby Skelton Phillips, of Greenville; and close friend, Brenda Kay.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Skelton was predeceased by two brothers, Albert L. Skelton, of Easley, and Curtis E. Skelton, of Greenville; and a sister, Elsie Skelton Thompson, of Travelers Rest.
Graveside service was 11 a.m. Friday, July 13 at Hunts Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pickens – Rex M. Walker, 67, husband of Lavon Childs Walker died, Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at his home.
Born in Greeley, Colo., a son of the late Ralph and Netha Warner Walker, he was a Veteran of the United States Army, a member of American Legion Post 11, a member of Praise Sanctuary Worship Center and was retired as a forklift operator.
Survivors include his wife of the home, three daughters; Melissa Walker of Pickens, Dianne Kelley (Pastor Stephen B.) of Liberty, Rhonda King (Jeremy) of Pickens, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, three sisters; Sara Hess of Denver, Colo., Jo Anne Wolfe of Texas, Dorothy Gile of Loveland, Colo., three brothers; John Albert, Robert Albert, and Paul Albert, all of Greeley, Colo.
Mr. Walker was predeceased by his parents and a sister; Faye Derrerrah and a brother; Warren Albert, Jr.
The funeral service was 3 p.m. Monday, July 2 at Praise Sanctuary Worship Center officiated by Pastor Jesse Bryant, Jr., Pastor Stephen Kelley, and Pastor Chris Williams. Burial followed the funeral service at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens with Military Honors.

PELZER – Lois Eloise Posey Gault, 74, of 599 Old River Road, wife of Fred Ralph Gault, died Monday, July 16, 2012, at Hospice of the Upstate.
Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Wesley and Ethel Posey. She retired from Alice Manufacturing and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Piedmont where she sang in the choir for many years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, Roy Dale Hughes, of Columbia; sisters, Mildred Green and Carolyn Stancil, both of Pickens, and Ressie Black, of Seneca; and brothers, Clyde Posey, of Pendleton, and William Posey, of Easley.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 19 from 2-3 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at the church at 3 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Leon Porter officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
