Lions survive with win over Pickens

CENTRAL — Friday Night’s matchup with the Pickens Blue Flame was do or die for the Daniel Lions.

The Lions, 1-8 on the season, needed a victory over the Flame to continue an impressive playoff streak of 22 consecutive years. The Lions were able to add another year to the streak by stifling the Pickens run game in a 24-7 victory on senior night.

“I’m very proud of the seniors’ efforts tonight to finally get one back in the win column,” Daniel coach Jeff Fruster said after the game. “Wins are hard to come by, and we’re going to enjoy them whenever we can get them.”

The Daniel defense was particularly spectacular, holding the Flame to just 46 yards of offense and allowing just 6 yards after halftime. Jake Venables and Palmer Story stuffed the Pickens run game all night, with both recording five tackles for loss.
