EASLEY — 68 Easley High Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) cadets recently completed one week of Basic Leadership Training (BLT) at the YMCA Camp Greenville located in the mountains of South Carolina.

The week of training consisted of classes in academics, marksmanship, land navigation and military drill. The curriculum was based on the competitions that the NJROTC unit competes in throughout the year along with providing an opportunity for the upcoming seniors to exercise their leadership skills in preparation for the school year. Normally the BLT camp would be held at Clarks Hill National Guard training site coupled with eight other NJROTC units located in the upstate area of South Carolina. Due to moving out of the old Easley High School and the transition into the new Easley High School, Easley’s NJROTC instructors decided it would be in the best interest of the unit to schedule a BLT camp later in the summer and at a different location.
Camp Greenville, a fully equipped YMCA camp, proved to be a superb location that met all of the required needs to support a successful week of training which also included exquisite meals to feed the hungry cadets and a staff that was available to assist in making the week a success.

The senior cadets were the camp cadres and were led by Cadet Commander Hunter Dodd. Senior cadets included Ashley Little, Case Godfrey, Steven Smith, Leland Warner, Catlyn LaVigne, John Byers, Samantha Lane, Clair Bracken, Austin Baker, Lauren Machen and Kavina Sullivan.

Easley’s 2012 Basic Leadership Training camp would not have been possible without the help of Easley rifle coach Bill Ross, chaperone Mrs. Machen and YMCA Camp Greenville group coordinator Ryan James and camp staff.
