EASLEY — When Timothy and Amanda Sheys were planning for the birth of their third daughter, Sofeiya, they certainly had not planned on delivering her at home, but it would seem God had other plans.

On Aug. 18, Timothy said he took his wife Amanda to Greenville Memorial Hospital because she was having painful contractions and passing blood clots. Following proper protocol, the hospital monitored Amanda for an hour before sending her home.

“The doctor said it would be another week before Sofeiya got here,” said Amanda. “I wanted to stay at the hospital because I have a history of quick deliveries.”

According to Amanda, both of her first two daughters, 2-year-old Deserae and 18-month-old Trinity, were born within three minutes of Amanda’s water breaking. While her mother’s intuition told her to stay put, Amanda followed doctor’s orders and went home at around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 18.

At about 5 a.m. the morning of the Aug. 19, Amanda got up to use the restroom and had to be carried back to the couch. Her water broke, and EMS was called.

“The baby’s head started crowning just as EMS arrived and walked through the door,” said Timothy. “It was the first baby this EMS team had delivered. My mother-in-law and I were ready to deliver the baby just in case. It was awesome. I couldn’t believe it.”

Mom Amanda and baby Sofeiya were taken to Baptist Easley, where they were checked out and found to be in excellent condition.
