Mary “Sue” Tinsley
Pickens — Mary “Sue” Oliver Tinsley, 77, of Redeemer Health and Rehab, 138 Rosemond Street, and wife of the late Tommy R. Tinsley, died Tuesday Sept. 11, 2012.
Mrs. Tinsley was born in Pickens, the daughter of the late Norman and Minnie Whitmire Oliver. She retired as a clerk in Pickens County Family Court and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her sons, Steve Tinsley and his wife, Sandi and Whit Tinsley and his wife, Sheila, all of Pickens; grandchildren, Travis Tinsley and his wife, Shelley, Brittani Tinsley, Austin Tinsley and Jacob Tinsley.
Graveside services and burial were 1 p.m. Thursday in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

Jim Reeves
Easley — Jimmy B. “Jim” Reeves, 78, of 201 Woodfield Drive, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at his home.
Born in Taylors, a son of the late James Robert and Virginia Balentine Reeves, Mr. Reeves was a 1957 graduate of Clemson College and retired as a personnel manager with the textile industry. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Easley, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Folds Reeves of the home; two daughters, Amy Reeves Bradford and husband, Keith, of Easley and Julie Reeves Berger and husband, Phillip, of Simpsonville; two grandchildren, Bailey Bradford and Tyler Berger.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Reeves was predeceased by a sister, Jean Reeves Abernathy.
Memorial services were 3:30 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road with the Rev. Dr. John Adams officiating. Private entombment followed in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum of Robinson Memorial Gardens.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Ark Hospice for the loving care they gave to Mr. Reeves.

Rev. James Coleman
Pickens — The Rev. James B. Coleman, 84, husband of Margaret Cannon Coleman of Pickens, died, Wednesday morning, September 12, 2012.
The Rev. Coleman was born in Gaston County, N.C., son of the late Fred and Bertha McKinney Coleman. Preacher Jim was a Baptist minister and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II stationed in Hawaii.
He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Margaret Cannon Coleman, four sons Steve Coleman (Glenna), Phil Coleman (Martha), Sam Coleman (June), and Mark Coleman, three daughters Jean Durham, Jan Lockridge (Rick), and Karen Snelson, 19 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Wilma Gillespie, Ruth Morris and Betty Bowie.
In addition to his parents, the Rev. Coleman was preceded in death by two sisters Sophia Mae Pace and Louise Coleman.
Nothing was more important to Preacher Jim than God, family and friends. We will greatly miss him but are consoled by God’s promise of a reunion one day.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Pace and the Rev. Clyde Johnson officiating. Military honors followed in the chapel.

Clifford Hooper
Easley — Mr. Clifford Eugene Hooper, 67, husband of Julia Saunders Hooper, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Greenville County, a son of Tilman Perry and Christine Mann Hooper, Mr. Hooper was retired from textiles, a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church and was a retired U.S. Army Veteran.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of the home, are three sons, Clifford Eugene Hooper II, Christopher Leonard Hooper and Alexander William Hooper and his wife Leeanne Hooper; one brother, Kenny Perry Hooper; five sisters, Linda Marchbanks, Eleanor Sanders, Cathy Phillips, Patsy Medlin and Martha Holliday; and two grandchildren, Devin Levi Sweat, and Nadia Haven Hooper.
He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Mauldin.
Funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at Jones Avenue Baptist Church. Burial was 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17 in the Dolly Cooper Veteran Cemetery, with full military honors.

Bob McConnell
Easley — Robert Lee “Bob” McConnell, 77, of 305 Rampey Street, husband of Mildred “Millie” Johnston McConnell, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012.
Born in Miami, Fla., he was the son of the late Roy and Alwilda Ruth Slatter McConnell. Mr. McConnell was retired from the United States Air Force having served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are three children, Ruth Ann McConnell and Roberta Lee Atnik both of Vidalia, Ga. and Rick McConnell of N.C.; step children, Sandy Rusk of Fishers Ind., Pamela McCarrel and Johnny Lyles both of Indianapolis, Ind., and David Lyles of Vidalia, Ga.; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a brother, Roy McConnell of Miami, Fla.
No services are planned.

Lee Junior McAlister
Pickens — Lee Junior McAlister, 78, husband of Catherine Sutherland McAlister, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012.
Lee was born in Greenville County, a son of the late Lee Washington and Ola Garner McAlister. He was retired as a truck driver and a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine McAlister of the home, a son, Joseph Lee McAlister of Charleston, daughters, Barbara Romero (Jose) of Greenville and Jackie McAlister of Waynesville, N.C., a step-son Gary Evans (Missy) of Pickens and step-daughters, Peggy Ortiz (Salvador), Linda Mitchell (Ernest), and Sheila Evans all of Pickens, and Linda Byers of Greenville, 22 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Geneva Garrett and Carolyn Howard both of Greenville.
In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by daughters Mary and Janelle McAlister and step-son Randy Evans.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial will follow at Mountain Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Linda McQueen
Liberty — Linda A. Howard McQueen, 62, of 926 Stewart Gin Road, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Ralph and Louise Connelly Howard, Linda retired from Anderson Stamp & Engraving after 30 years of service and attended Roanoke Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 34 years, Lewis J. McWhorter of the home; a son, Steve McQueen and wife, Heather, of Liberty; a daughter, Sharon McQueen of Easley; two brothers, Pete Howard of Greenville and Joel Howard of Easley; four sisters, Oleen Tinsley of Cyprus, Debra Doll and Marlene Mann, both of Greenville and Catherine Marie Johnson of Easley; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Linda was predeceased by a daughter, Susan McQueen and by a brother, Mike Howard.
Memorial services were 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with the Rev. Clyde Gravley, Jr. officiating.

Lizzie Cassell
Sunset — Mrs. Sara Elizabeth “Lizzie” Gravley Cassell went home to be with Jesus, Sunday morning, Sept. 16, 2012 shortly after midnight. There, she was welcomed by her husband Ernest Furman Cassell, an infant daughter and son, parents W. O. “Duke” and Mae Chappell Gravley, son-in-law Walter McNeely, three grandchildren, four brothers, one sister and countless relatives and friends.
Born June 6, 1918, she lived her life in the Pickens area, the majority of which was lived at Sunset where she resided at the time of her home going. She loved gardening and quilting, flowers, and arts and crafts. She was the oldest member of Holly Springs Baptist Church and the Baptist Women of Red Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Cassell was retired from Sir Shirtmakers and then retired again on her 80th birthday from the Pickens Sentinel Newspaper.
Survivors include her sons, Mitchell Cassell (Sue) of Sunset, Johnson Cassell (Patti) of Six Mile, and Milledge Cassell (Linda) of Pickens, daughters include Julia Mae McNeely of Greenville, Lillie Nell Hall (Rabon) of Taylors, Pearl Ellen Daves (Hiott) of Simpsonville, Jennie Sue Cassell and Darlene Cassell of Sunset, also 16 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren. Surviving also are sisters Rosa Lee Stone and Sula Maddox both of Pickens.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Holly Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. H. C. Couch and the Rev. Gerald Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with the Rev. David Hardin officiating.

Hollie R. Giles, Jr.
Easley — Hollie Roscoe Giles, Jr., 74, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Spartanburg County, the son of the late Rev. Hollie Roscoe Giles, Sr., and the late Helen Burrell Giles, Mr. Giles retired from Sangamo Electric, was a member of Easley Church of God and a U.S. Army Veteran. Hollie was an avid Gamecock fan and had a passion for hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Harriet Kitchin Giles of the home; a son, Scott Giles and his wife, Angel, of Liberty; and three grandsons, Cole, Cameron and Cason, who knew him as Papa Hollie.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Giles was predeceased by a sister, Patsy G. Bolding.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Catherine Posey
Easley — Catherine Ellenburg Posey, 64, wife of Stanley Posey of Easley, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 at Cannon Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Ruth Browning Crowe Ellenburg, Mrs. Posey was a homemaker and a member of Glassy Mountain View Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are four sons, Richard Posey, Stan Posey, II (Wanda), Sgt. Brian Posey (Melissa) and Shane Posey (Justine); brothers, Terry Crowe and Tom V. Crowe.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Posey was predeceased by a sister, Judy E. Fulmer.
Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
