PICKENS — Cannon Hospital is once again planning its annual trick or treating event as a means of providing a safe, family-oriented atmosphere for trick or treating in the city of Pickens. 

This year’s “Trick or Treat on Main” will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 5-8 p.m. on Main Street in Pickens and is open to all children ages 12 and under, free of charge. Because of liability issues, no animals will be allowed. 

During the event, West Main Street is blocked off and kids are able to trick or treat from booth to booth, without the fear of traffic. 

“Cannon Hospital started this tradition over 15 years ago when door-to-door trick or treating became unsafe, and we moved it to Main Street in order to make it more handicap accessible and open to everyone in the community,” said Amanda Dow, director of community relations at Cannon. 

Businesses, organizations, churches and individuals can reserve a space on the trail at no charge, decorate it and hand out candy. 

“We usually have about 20 booths with some really unique decorations, everything from lights and costumes to a walk through Wizard of Oz trail,” Dow said.
