Leonard B. “Ben” Greer

EASLEY — Mr. Leonard Bennett “Ben” Greer Jr., 77, husband of Patricia Sorrells Greer, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018.

He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard B. Greer and Ada McCollum Greer; four brothers, Furman McCollum, Hughey Greer, John Greer and Jim Greer; and one sister, Margaret Thigpen.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Wade Greer (Susan), Brian Greer and Brad Greer (Michelle); four grandchildren, Joshua

Greer, Lexi Greer, Alex Greer and Brian Haulk; two great-grandchildren, Kenadie Haulk and Benning Haulk; and two foster grandchildren, Elijah Taylor and Brook Taylor.

Ben was employed at the Arial plant of Alice Manufacturing Company for 44 years, and he was a member of Elljean Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon, on the welcoming committee and on the building and grounds committee.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 9, from 6-8 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 10, at 11 a.m. in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel, with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Jesse L. Duncan

EASLEY — Jesse Lee Duncan, 63, of Smith Grove Road, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018, at his home.

Born in Burlington, Vt., he was the son of the late Seth Duncan Jr. and Teresa Ingles.

Jesse was a graduate of Clemson University and Tri-County Technical College, with a degree in computer engineering electronics. He was employed with Fluor and was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church. He loved his family and enjoyed fishing, camping, shooting his guns, building and flying airplanes and scuba diving. Jesse proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Surviving are his daughters, Jenna Lee Duncan of Pendleton and Haley Starr Duncan of Easley; stepdaughters, Ryan McKenzie Lee and Kasey Taylor Lee; and grandchildren, Brylie Starr Wood, Penelope Faith Gossett, Lincoln Furman Gossett and Justin Corey Gossett II.

Funeral services were held May 7 at Smith Grove Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.

Ida Wimpey

PICKENS — Ida Geneva Harper Wimpey, 93, widow of James Robert Wimpey, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 4, 2018.

Mrs. Wimpey was born in Pickens, a daughter of the late J. W. and Nettie Gilstrap Harper. She was a homemaker and a dedicated member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church, where she formerly taught Sunday school.

Survivors include her daughter, Dianne Owens Wood (Randall), and son, Gary Robert Wimpey (Debbie), of Pickens. Grandchildren include Marty Owens (Tonya), Heather Webb (Andy), Brent Wood (Amanda), Nikki Miller (Chris), Gabriel Nabors (Randy), Dundee Carter (Paul), Daniel Wimpey (Nicole) and Caleb Wimpey (Laurel). Great-grandchildren include Soloman Wilkins, Melia Wilkins, Mason Owens, Levi Webb, Mattie Wood, Sly Wood, Lauren Miller, Weston Miller, Emily Hardenbrook (Cory), Kelsi McKelvey (Sean), Ashley Nabors, Ciera Bodden, Lilly Carter, Emma Carter, James Wimpey, Chase Robinson, Cameron Robinson, Chris East and Colt Wimpey, and a great-great-grandson, Jacob Nabors.

Also surviving are brothers, Paul Harper and Hovie Harper, and a sister, Estelle Hayes.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Wimpey was predeceased by daughters, Shirley Jean Wimpey and Sybil Sue Wimpey, a great-grandson, Riley Owens, and brothers, James and John Harper.

A graveside service was held May 7 at Mountain Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Wyatt Williams

EASLEY — Mr. Raymond “Wyatt” Williams, 89, husband of Gladys Louise Harkins Williams, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, May 2, 2018.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Ray O’Dell Williams and the late Hassie LaBoone Williams, Mr. Williams retired from Vulcan Materials with 27 years of service and was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 66 years, are a brother, Harold L. Williams of Easley; and a sister, Ellen McDaniel of Pickens. In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was predeceased by five sisters.

Funeral services were held May 4 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Private burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers were Nick DiPietro, Luke DePietro, Mario DePietro, Eric Whitlock, Ron Harkins and Mike Adcox.

Grace Shirley

CENTRAL — Grace Manley Shirley, 86, widow of Martin Clarence Shirley, passed away, Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at her home.

Born in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late William Bill and Florine Berry Manley. Grace was a homemaker and attended Central Church of God of Prophecy. She loved people and gave care to many.

Surviving are sons, Jackie Dale Shirley (Sandra Adcox) of Central and Thomas “Lefty” Shirley (Joy) of Norris; sister, Catherine Manley of Edgefield; grandsons, Kendall Shirley (Hope) and Jackie Tyler Shirley; and a great-granddaughter, Anna Grace Shirley.

In addition to her parents and husband, Grace was predeceased by a brother, J. W. Manley.

Funeral services were held May 4 in the Chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, with entombment following in Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

Pamella Love Kirk Dezio

PICKENS — Pamella Love Kirk Dezio, 44, passed from this life Monday, April 30, 2018, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of Rev. William Leland Kirk and Margaret Owen Finney. Having a flare for the theater, Pamella enjoyed being an actress.

Survivors include her husband, Doyle A. Dezio; her father, Rev. William L., and his wife, Sara Kirk, of Spindale, N.C.; her mother, Margaret O., and her husband, Doug Finney, of Pickens; a son, Douglas Arrow; three stepchildren; a sister, C.C. Kirk; and nieces, Corwin and Abby.

Pamella was predeceased by a brother, Eric Shawn Kirk.

A graveside service was held May 5 at Midway Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. William Kirk. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association by visiting diabetes.org.

EASLEY — Gladys P. Cassell, 81, wife of the late Jessie Miller Cassell, passed from this life Wednesday, May 2, 2018.

Born in the Dacusville community, a daughter of the late Kimsey Vester Pinion and the late Lydia Redmond Pinion, she was retired from Kent Manufacturing.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff (Joelynn) Cassell of Pickens and Tim (Laura) Cassell of Pumpkintown; a daughter, Jennifer (Robert) Matthews of Easley; five grandchildren, Brian Garrett, Travis Cassell, Cody Cassell, Shane Matthews and Heather Matthews; three great-grandchildren Cameron Ryan, June Bug Ryan and Tyler Holcombe; a brother, J.D. (Judy) Pinion; and a sister, Doris (Sam) Breazeale.

Mrs. Cassell was predeceased by her parents, her husband, brothers, K. V. Pinion and Joe Pinion, and sisters, Sybil Pinion and Bessie Simmons.

A funeral service was held May 6 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, with burial following at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Constance Hannah Worth

PICKENS — Constance “Connie” H. Worth, 76, wife of Donald “Don” Worth, passed from this life Sunday, May 6, 2018, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Rockville Centre, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Wilfred Waine and the late Ella Heyes Waine.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Don of the home; a son, Robert Worth and wife Donna of Long Island, N.Y.; daughters, Lori Worth of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Susan Ormiston and husband Robert of Tolland, Conn.; grandchildren, Kevin and Jessica Worth and Robbie and Jamie Ormiston; a sister, Beatrice Wiedersum; brothers, Wilfred Waine and John Waine; and a sister-in-law; Theresa Shay.

Mrs. Worth was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Joan Mandell, and in-laws, John and Norma Evans.

Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m., Saturday, May 12, in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m.

Reverend Billy Glenn Freeman

PICKENS — Rev. Billy G. Freeman of Pickens, born on March 20, 1935, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ early Friday morning, May 4, 2018.

A son of the late Roscoe and Esther Freeman, Billy was a graduate of Pickens High School, Anderson College, Central Wesleyan and New Orleans Baptist Seminary. During his ministry, Billy pastored several Upstate churches. Also, he worked voluntarily at Magnolias Assisted Living for more than eight years.He was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church and the Jim Chapman Sunday School class. Before his call into the ministry, Billy worked at Alice Manufacturing for 24 years. He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard for seven years.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Ellenburg Freeman, having recently celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss. He is also survived by his sister Hazel McRorie of Asheville, N.C., along with several nieces and nephews.

Rev. Freeman was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Roy Freeman, Restee Freeman and Virgil Freeman.

Funeral services were held May 7 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, officiated by Dr. Roger Couch and Rev. David Ellenburg.

Honorary escorts were David Naphegyi, Billy Gilstrap, and the Jim Chapman Sunday School Class, and Rev. Freeman’s nephews served as active pallbearers.

Georgia A. Rivard

EASLEY — Georgia Ann Rivard, 92, of Easley, was born July 28, 1925, in Little Rock, Ark., to James Monroe and Stella May Benson, and went to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 29, 2018.

Georgia’s mother died when she was very young. She and her sisters, Elizabeth and Laverne, grew up caring for their father and each other. She and her sisters remained very close to each other throughout their lives despite the miles that separated them.

Georgia married John (Jack) Rivard in Saginaw, Mich., on June 28, 1945. They made their home in Bridgeport, Mich., and later moving to Zilwaukee (a suburb of Saginaw), where they lived until 1972. In 1972, Jack pursued a job change that moved he, Georgia and sons John and Jim to the Greenville area, where they made their home in rural Easley. Jack continued his machinist career, while Georgia initially worked as a volunteer at Shriners Hospital for crippled children, later becoming a full-time employee at the hospital until her retirement. She devoted herself wholly to the care of many crippled children through her long career at the hospital.

Georgia was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Dacusville, where she loved to worship and fellowship with her beloved Sunday school class.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughters, Debra Lynn Rivard, Carole Sue Schmidtman and Suzanne Buffington; sister Elizabeth Hubbard; and four half-sisters.

Survivors include sister Laverne Chapman of New Mexico; sons and wives, John and Brenda Rivard of Greenville and James and Pam Rivard of Easley; daughters and husbands, Barbara and Bill Bastedo of Simpsonville and Jackie and Norbert Ahrens of Napoleon, Ohio; and son-in-law Walter Schmidtman. Survivors also include nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Georgia will be greatly missed and remembered as a loving, caring and sacrificing wife, mother and grandmother.

Visitation will be Friday, May 11, at Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 Midland Road, Saginaw, Mich., from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., with service at 1 p.m., and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Saginaw.

Robin Janette Smith

PICKENS — Robin J. Smith, 39, passed from this life, Saturday, April 28, 2018.

Robin was born in Spartanburg, a daughter of the late James Beck and the late Rose Lee Smith Powell. She enjoyed the freedom of riding motorcycles, hiking, being outside and most of all she loved being with her dog, Ratchet.

Survivors include her two sons, Lucas Smith and Timothy Smith, both of Pickens, a sister, Tonya Robinson, best friends, David Campbell and Freddy Scruggs, and her beloved dog, Ratchet.

Robin was predeceased by her parents and her stepfather, Gene Powell.

A memorial service to celebrate Robin’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home.
