WILLIAM CARLOS “SKITTER” BURGESS

PICKENS — Skitter Burgess, 54, husband of Cynthia Renee Burgess, passed from this life Monday, June 18, 2018, at his home.

Born in Pickens County, Skitter is a son of William James Burgess and the late Virginia Essie Redding Burgess. He enjoyed dirt track racing and playing pool and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy, of 37 years, of the home; his father; a brother, Cameron (Tracy) Burgess; and two sisters, Patsy (James) Wade and Donna Walker.

Skitter was predeceased by his mother and two brothers, Duane Philyaw and Ricky Evett.

Funeral services were held June 21 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Perry and Rev. Craig Scruggs officiating and burial following in the church cemetery.

MICHAEL ELDON JENKINS

PICKENS — Michael E. Jenkins, 54, passed from this life Tuesday, June 19, 2018.

Michael was born in Greenville County, a son of Louise Kelley Jenkins of Pickens and the late Wendal E. Jenkins. He held a bachelor’s of science from Clemson University, as well as being a nationwide utility engineer and a certified professional electrical engineer.

Michael was proud to be employed with UC Synergetic and formerly by PowerServices Inc. He loved God, was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church and was known for helping others. Michael will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, son and brother.

Survivors include his mother; two sons, Matthew (Leigh) Jenkins of Pendleton and Mikey Jenkins of Pickens; a grandson, Easton Jenkins; and two sisters, Susan (Joey) Pace of Pickens and Anita Cope of Liberty.

Michael was predeceased by his father and a daughter, Marley Jenkins.

The funeral service was held June 23 at Mountain Grove Baptist Church, with the burial following in the church cemetery.

MILT OATES

CENTRAL — Cecil Milton “Milt” Oates, 76, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at his home.

Born in Central, Milt was a son of the late Leonard “Shorty” Oates and Jimmie Lou Bell Oates. He was a retired employee with Greenwood Mills in Liberty and was a member of Cannon Memorial Baptist Church. Milt enjoyed fishing, loved horses and birds, playing the lottery, cutting grass, reading the newspaper, Clemson Tigers football and Elvis.

Surviving are a daughter, Becky Oates of the home; son, Anthony Oates of Philadelphia, Tenn.; brothers, Mickey Oates (Judy) of Pendleton and Sammy Oates (Vikki) of Seneca; sisters, Louise Rochester (Gene) of Walhalla, Linda Whitlock of Liberty, Mary Ruth Black (Larry) of Liberty and Debra Chambers (Slick) of Newry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Marion Oates; sisters, Gail Elrod and Nancy Jane Oates; and brothers-in-law, Cecil Whitlock and Ray Elrod.

Memorial services were held June 23 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central with Revs. Darren Rood and Zephra Benson officiating.

CYNTHIA DAWN TAYLOR

EASLEY — It is with great sadness that the family of Cynthia Dawn Taylor announces her passing after a two-year battle with cancer. She went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, June 7, 2018, at her home in Easley.

Born in Aldridge, the west midlands of England, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Eugenia Butler. Raised in England, Cynthia, together with her family, immigrated to the U.S.A. in 1982, and she became a U.S. citizen in 1992. After moving within the United States, the family settled in Easley in 1996.

Cynthia was an active member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, serving in many ways through care ministries, prayer shawl ministries, ladies circle and many others. She touched the lives of many and will always be remembered for her kind and selfless nature.

Cynthia is survived by her husband, Dr. Roy Taylor; three children, Mark, Jeremy and Ruth; seven grandchildren, Davina, Nicolas, Isiah, Martin, Lucas, Andre’ and Candace; and her brother, Ian, who resides in England.

A memorial service to celebrate Cynthia’s life was held at St. Andrew United Methodist Church on June 23.

Memorial donations may be sent in her honor to the American Cancer Society in hopes of finding a cure for this terrible disease.

ALVIN RICHARD HENDERSON

PICKENS — Alvin Richard Henderson, 93, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 18, 2018.

Mr. Henderson was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment during WWII, where he made multiple jumps. He was captured in Holland while helping a fellow soldier who had been shot. He was a prisoner of war for nine months. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, POW medal and the Presidential Citation.

At the end of WWII, he returned home and earned his economics and accounting degree from Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania. He married the love of his life, Bonnie Manning, in 1952. They have lived in Pickens since 1954. They have been lifetime members of Pickens Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Henderson is survived by his wife, Bonnie; three children, Arthur Henderson (Lynn), Beth Bagwell (Tony) and Carol Wade (Tim); and six grandchildren, Liza Fleischer, Brian Rauschenbach, Justin Dougherty, Candice Carlton, Victor Wade and Chloe Henderson. He also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren.

Also survived by his sister, Ann Parker, he was predeceased by his brother, Arthur Henderson.

Memorial services were held June 24 at Pickens Presbyterian Church. Full military honors were provided by the Honor Guard from Fort Jackson and the Honor Guard from Shaw Air Force Base immediately following the service.

The College of the Ozarks honors veterans through the Patriot Education program. They sponsored several of Mr. Henderson’s trips to historical European WWII sites. GENEVA ROACH PARKER CUMBOW

EASLEY — Geneva Roach Paker Cumbow, 91, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2018, after an extended illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Pickens County. Geneva was the daughter of the late Frank B and Marie S. Roach. She worked for Alice Manufacturing Company for 30-plus years, and after retirement, she was a dedicated volunteer at Baptist Easley Hospital. Geneva was a member of Park Street Baptist Church for more than 50 years.

Geneva was a kind and gentle lady who loved meeting new people and could outspell anyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward, as well as by her former husband, James Lee Parker, and her youngest son, Gregory L. Parker.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Cumbow; her two remaining children, James Rodney Parker and wife, Lethea, of Easley and Pamela M. Bingham of Cedar Mountain, N.C. Geneva is also survived by four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She also leaves three stepchildren to share in her memory.

Services were held June 22 in the Dillard Funeral Home chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

ALEXANDER ABERCROMBIE

PICKENS — Henrietta Lois Alexander Abercrombie, 91, went to be with her Lord Thursday, June 21, 2018.

Born in Oconee County, she was the daughter of Fulton D. Alexander and Lucy Brooks Alexander and the wife of Rev. Marion Luther Abercrombie Jr. Mrs. Abercrombie was a homemaker, a pastor’s wife and member of East Pickens Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years; a son, Sam Abercrombie and his wife, Sharon, of Oconee; two daughters, Audrey Gilstrap and her husband, David, of Pickens and Lucy Oberstar and her husband, Bruce, of Pickens; and a brother, Arnold Alexander of Salem.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Henry Alexander and Denver Alexander, and a sister, Dorothy Nichols. Mrs. Abercrombie also leaves eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren to share in her memory.

A graveside service was held June 23 at Alexander Cemetery in Salem.

ANNE DONALDSON SEABROOK

EASLEY — Anne Donaldson Seabrook, daughter of John and May Donaldson, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, of Easley, lost her battle with Parkinson’s disease and cancer on June 20, 2018, at the McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville.

Anne touched the lives, deeply, of all those she met. She took great pleasure in her lifelong careers as a homemaker and sharing the ministry of her husband.

People were often drawn to her inviting personality. Perfect strangers would come up and speak to her in a store, sharing their stories and receiving her kindness and love in return. Her passion for the outdoors and music were shared with her fellow church members by beautifying the church grounds and singing in the choir.

She leaves behind her husband, best friend and soulmate, Rev. John “Jay” G. Seabrook Jr.; her son, Sean Seabrook; her daughter, April Belcher; a granddaughter, Victoria Anne Fairchild; and granddogs, Norman and Teegan. Although the earth has faded from Anne’s eyes, her memory will live forever in the hearts of all the lives she touched.

A memorial service will be held at the chapel of the Foothills Presbyterian Community in Easley on Saturday, June 30, at 2 p.m., followed by a family visitation and reception on the premises.

THOMAS E. HUNT

EASLEY — Mr. Thomas Edward “Tommy” Hunt, 62, husband of Denise Griffin Hunt, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, June 23, 2018.

Born in Greenville, a son of the late Harold P. Hunt and the late Ruby Quinn Hunt, Mr. Hunt was employed as a consultant for Mason Automotive. He was a man of unwavering integrity who loved his family above anything else.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 36 years, are sons, Justin T. Hunt (Adelia) of Berkeley, Calif., and Griffin M. Hunt of Easley; a daughter, Whitney D. Hunt of Easley; brothers, Harold P. Hunt (Sherry) of Greenville, Ray Hunt (Louise) of Easley and David W. Hunt (Kelley) of Taylors; grandchildren, Mirah, Judah and Lilah Hunt; and granddogs, Spanky and Winston.

Funeral services were held June 25 at the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

EASLEY — Mr. Tom Chase Jr., 89, husband of Janet Ordway Chase, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018.

Born in Detroit, Mich., a son of the late Tom Chase Sr. and the late Thelma Savage Chase, Mr. Chase was a graduate of Purdue University, where he received his degree in electrical engineering and retired from GE with 38 years of service. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean War, and was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church.

Mr. Chase was a dedicated Boy Scout leader for many years. He loved to travel, but most of all, he loved his family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 60 years, are two sons, John A. Chase of Florence, Ala., and Donald A. Chase (Lisa) of Newnan, Ga.; two daughters, Deborah A. Chase of Easley and Laura A. Gray (Ward) of Duncan; a brother, Ronald Chase (Mary) of New York; a sister, Lyne Tower (Steve) of North Carolina; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley, SC 29642.

The family will host a celebration of life for Tom Saturday, July 14, 2018, at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Easley.

EASLEY — Mr. Tony Edward Bigham, 59, husband of Tina Herd Bigham, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018.

Born in Greenville, a son of the late Bobby Crowe Bigham and the late Evelyn Roberts Bigham, Mr. Bigham was an assistant manager at Home Depot for 22 years. He was a cherished member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and loved fishing, camping and most of all, his family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 38 years, is a sister, Connie Bigham Keller (Billy) of Dacusville.

Funeral services were held June 26 at Rock Springs Baptist Church. Private burial will be held in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

CARL EDWARD “EDDIE” GLENN

WESTMINSTER — Carl Edward “Eddie” Glenn, 63, passed away on June 10, 2018, at Pruitthealth Pickens.

Born in Selma, Ala., on March 7, 1955, Eddie was the son of the late Utah Glenn and Shelba Crenshaw.

Eddie graduated from North Mesquite High School in 1973. He served our country in the U.S. Army Reserve for a short period of time before becoming a post office worker. Later, he moved on to construction, before finally becoming a long-haul truck driver.

Eddie was a resident of Texas for most of his life, but resided in Westminster for the past 20 years. He enjoyed nature, being outdoors, fishing and bonfires.

Eddie was married four times throughout his life, the first being to Linda Miller Hall from 1972-1981. His second marriage, to Jamie Ann Glenn, lasted from 1983-1991. Following that, he was married to Dana Lynn Glenn from 1994-2005. Finally, Eddie began a relationship with Becky Sue Davis in 2003 that lasted through his final days.

Eddie is survived by his children, Tamie Glenn (first marriage), Crystal and James Whitfield, Britni Glenn (second marriage) and Alexander Glenn (third marriage); stepchildren, Blue and Kelly Jordan, Shelly, Tonya, and Brad (fourth relationship); siblings, Joe Glenn, David and Kathy Glenn, Randy and Sherry Glenn, Tina and Stanley Johnson, Misty and Harold Justice, and Carla and Raymond Vasquez; and 10 grandchildren.

Carl Edward Glenn lived like a free bird.

A memorial service will be July 10, 2018, at High Falls County Park from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., with a reception to follow at the same location. A parking fee of $2 may be required.

WOODY LYNWOOD SMITH

SENECA — Sanford “Woody” Lynwood Smith, 77, of 201 Summitt St., Seneca, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, June 24, 2018.

He was born March 6, 1941, in Clayton, Ga. to the late Lonnie and Addie Mae Mauldin Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and enjoyed fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annette Harbin Smith; a son, Steven Burkett; and a daughter, Audra Elaine Smith.

He is survived by four daughters, Debra (Jeff) Wilbanks, Cynthia (Paul) Smith, Kristie (Tyson) Dillard and Janice (Paul) Penland; brother, Ronnie (Dianna) Smith; sister, Jean (Wayne) Page; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 27, from 6-8 p.m. at the Brown-Oglesby Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at Oconee Memorial Park.
