Sylvia Benjamin
Central — Sylvia Lillie Youngblood Bolding Benjamin, 71, of Central died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at The Laurels of Hendersonville.
Sylvia was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Samuel Odell and Lois Merck Youngblood. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Wesleyan Church and was retired from Easley Nursing Center as an occupational therapist and certified nursing assistant. Sylvia had many loves including horseback riding, children, and taking care of old people.
Sylvia was twice married, first to the late Ernest Bolding and then to the late Joel Benjamin.
Survivors include her step-daughter Gwen Benjamin of Greenville, brothers and sisters, Lucille Kelley of Liberty, Ernest Youngblood of Six Mile, Felton Youngblood of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., Shirley Stubblefield of Six Mile, and Susan Alexander also of Six Mile.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Sylvia was preceded in death by a sister, Syble Jones.
Funeral services were Thursday, Oct 11 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens, Garden of St. Peter.

Alvin S. Harrison
Easley — Alvin Stokes Harrison, 82, of 103 McCollum Street, husband of the late Genethel Macie Thomas Harrison, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at his home.
Born in Brevard, N.C., a son of the late Earl Cranston and Hattie Harren Harrison, Mr. Harrison retired from Michelin North America and was a member of Easley Church of God. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Surviving are two sons, Butch Harrison (and friend, Karen) and Michael Harrison (Naomi), all of Easley; two daughters, Lisa Adams (Bobby) and Pam Smith (Greg), all of Easley; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday at Easley Church of God with the Rev. Dr. David Sustar officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Gary Edward Schauf
Marietta — Mr. Ed Schauf, 63, of 107 Yankee Rebel Point, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at St Francis Hospital.
Born July 14, 1949 in Washington, Iowa, he was a son of Velda I. Moffit Schauf and the late Wilbur L. Schauf. Mr. Schauf retired from the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of service and also was a retired aircraft mechanic with Lockheed Martin.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his partner, Carol Schmidt; son, Brain Behrand, daughter, Michelle Schauf, sisters, Shirley Debler, Myrna Bozarth, Mary Van Dyke and Sandra Hahn; and brother, Dennis Schauf.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his siblings, Larry, Bill, Lori and Kenneth Schauf.
Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road. Inurnment will follow later in Wellman, Iowa.

Ward C. Rice
Pickens — Ward Cleveland Rice, 86, husband of the late Helen Bryson Rice, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Mr. Rice was born in Macon County, N.C., a son of the late Dive and Annie Hughes Rice. He was retired from The Singer Co., now Ryobi, in Pickens and he was a member of Bethany Church of God where he was a member of The Men’s Class. Mr. Rice was a craftsman and loved to refinish old furniture and use his woodworking skills to make items including his own personal dulcimer and case. He was a U. S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his daughter, Annie Finley (Ryan), grandson Garvin Finley (Lisa) and great grandson Sam Finley (Maggie) all of Pickens. He is also survived by brothers James Rice (Betty), Earl Rice (Shirley), and Johnny Rice (Patsy) and sisters Helen Long, and Mary Ann Rogers (Alex).
In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Rice was preceded in death by a sister Gladys Sewell, and brothers Glen Rice and Leroy Rice.
Graveside services were conducted 4 p.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens with military honors.

Carolyn P. Whitmire
Easley — Mrs. Carolyn Pace Whitmire, 75, wife of Donald T. Whitmire, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012 at McCall Hospice House.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Jessie L. and Ola Entrekin Pace, Mrs. Whitmire retired from Mitchell Brothers Investments and was a member of Georges Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of the home, are a son, Thomas Stewart Whitmire (Catherine) of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Gene Pace (Alma) of Easley; a sister, Edna Mullikin of Easley; and two grandsons, Carter and Calvin Whitmire.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with the Revs. Joe Whisnant and Dale McCoig officiating. Burial followed in the Georges Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Barbara Pickens
Easley — Barbara Owens Pickens, 76, of Easley, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012 at Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Milam and Lucy Jane Dover Owens. She retired from Alice Manufacturing and was a member United Wesleyan Church.
Mrs. Pickens is survived by a son, Dale Pickens; three daughters, Cindy Brown (David), Tammy Pickens and Donna Tudor (Dennis); one grandchild, Kristopher Pickens.
Funeral services were 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at United Wesleyan Church. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Virginia “Ginny” Brewer
Central — Virginia Alice “Ginny” Willis Brewer, 81, of 2234 Norris Highway and widow of Joseph Clint Brewer, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at her home.
Raised in LaFrance she was a daughter of the late Jones and Carrie Leopard Willis. She was a retired employee with J.P. Stevens Clemson Plant and attended Tri City Baptist Church in Easley.
Surviving are a son Richard Brewer; four daughters, Jo Ann Barnes (Stanley) and Janet Lee Brewer both of Central; Debbie Whitmire (Steve) of Liberty, and Pattie Brewer of the home; two brothers, William Willis of Easley and Frank Willis of Anderson; sister, Mary Limbaugh of Easley; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two granddaughters, Jennifer and Carrie.
Funeral services were 3 p.m., Saturday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Central.

J. P. “Jake” Morrison
Central — J.P. “Jake” Morrison of 220 Aiken Street and husband of Helen Gillespie Morrison died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at AnMed Health.
Born in Greer, he was a son of the late Pierce and Minnie Chambers Morrison. J.P. was a retired employee with Central Textiles a member of the Central Masonic Lodge and a member of Cannon Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home; son, Robby Morrison of Six Mile; daughters, Gail Whitield (Johnny) of Anderson and Rebecca Davis (Bob) of Starr; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 3 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Cothran officiating.
Entombment followed in Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

Earl “Mutt” Chapman
Liberty — Earl “Mutt” Chapman, 86, of 14 Alexander Street, died on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in the East Fort Community of North Carolina he was a son of the late John F. and Pearl Powell Chapman. He retired from the Pickens County School District and was a member of East Side Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Medlock Chapman of the home; a son, Steve Chapman and his wife, Sandra of Six Mile; three grandchildren, Brian Chapman Stephanie Hendershott, and Matthew Chapman; a great granddaughter, Haile Chapman.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by 2 sons, Jackie and Dean Chapman.
Memorial services to honor the life of Mr. Chapman were 3 p.m. Sunday at East Side Baptist Church.

Virginia H. Young
Easley — Virginia Hipps Young, 82, wife of the late Samuel D. Young, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012 at her home.
Born in Cherokee County, N.C., a daughter of the late Corey and Nanny Hipps, Mrs. Young was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith.
Surviving are a son, Sammy D. Young of Easley; a sister, Emily Autry of North Carolina; a granddaughter, Sommer Young of Virginia; and a great-grandson, Kaden Iraheta of Virginia.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Young was predeceased by a daughter, Michelle Young; two brothers and one sister.

Jessica Hoepelman-Garcia
Easley — Jessica Hoepelman-Garcia, 34, of 189 Fernwood Drive, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at her residence.
Born in Bronx, N.Y., she was the wife of Charlie Garcia and the daughter of Gilbert and Hilda Diaz Hoepelman of Miami, Fla. She attended the University of Florida and Florida International University where she earned a Masters Degree. She also attended church at Iglesia De Nuevo Pacto. She was a speech therapist at Keowee Elementary School and loved working with children. But most of all, she loved spending time with her children Audrey, Caleb and Liam Garcia.
In addition to her parents and her husband and children of the home are a brother, Engels Hoepelman of Miami Fla.

Victor T. Chastain
Easley — Victor T. Chastain, husband Miriam “Kitty” Alderman Chastain, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at Foothills Retirement Community in Easley. He was 91 years old.
Mr. Chastain was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Wade Hampton and Mary Annie Price Chastain. He served in the Signal Corps and Army Air Corps during World War II. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Forestry, and was employed by the SC State Commission of Forestry, Howard Lumber Company and retired from Mead Westvaco Corporation. Mr. Chastain was active in the building of the fellowship hall at Holly Springs Baptist Church, and the Holly Springs Fire department. He and Mrs. Chastain were Western Square Dance Club members for more than 42 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife Kitty, are daughters Nancy Chastain of Columbia, Annette Chastain of Orlando, Fla., a friend who is like a daughter, Beth Bowen of Columbia, grandsons, Tate Wright, his wife Mellissa of Chapin, Jeremy Chastain of Orlando, Fla., sister Peggy Holcombe of Pickens and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Chastain was predeceased by brothers Furman, Beal, Lloyd Hampton, Ralph, Barthell, and Lyle Chastain, and sisters Thalia Barber, Mildred Palmer, Helen Mann, Azile Tucker, and Virginia Chastain.
Graveside services were held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Liberty — Nancy Evans Payton, 77, of 109 Lake Drive, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, she was the wife of Raymond E. Payton of the home, and a daughter of the late James and Monie M. Sparks Evans. She had worked at Woodside Mills in Liberty and enjoyed making dolls and quilts. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Carla Doll and her husband Vince of Liberty, Kimberly Lingenfelter of Central, and Nina M. Stewart and her husband Tony of Easley; two sons, Michael Payton of the home and Frank Payton of Liberty; a sister, Vicky Bays of Portsmouth, Ohio; two brothers, Roger and Jimmy Evans both of Portsmouth, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a sister, Mary “Sissy” Williams; two brothers, Ronnie and Pete Evans; and a great grandchild, Christopher Michael Oglesby, Jr.

Lois Chapman
Pickens — Lois Jeanette Hunter Chapman, 78, wife of the late Homer Franklin Chapman, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012 at her home.
Mrs. Chapman was born in Easley, a daughter of the late Kirby and Lila Devada Stone. She was a cosmetologist.
Survivors include her daughter Pamela (Pam) Bearden (James) of Pickens, one granddaughter and two grandsons. Also surviving are sisters, Ella M. Stancil of Easley and Lila R. Bolding of Six Mile and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Dr. Boyce Whitman officiating.

Louise Carman Pace Belt
Easley — Louise Pace Belt, wife of Walter Belt, daughter of the late Dewey and Lilly Mae Carman Stewart, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.
Louise was formerly married to the late Lloyd Alvin Pace. In her earlier years, Louise worked as a cosmetologist and also worked at TG&Y. Later in life she worked with the Reach to Recovery Program and was awarded the Terese Lasser Award from the American Cancer Society.
Louise was a faithful and active member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church. She always had a love for life, a smile on her face, kind words and a hug for all.
In addition to her husband of the home, she is survived by her sons, Wayne Pace of Charlotte, N.C., and Michael Pace (Regina) of Easley; step-son, Danny Belt (Marie) of Easley; grandchildren, Johnny Pace, Chris Pace (Kelly), Ashley Birley (Paul), Kaley McLeese and Nikki Gardo Diaz (Mitchell); great-grandchildren, Russell, William and Sydney Pace; former daughter-in-law, Diane Hunt; special relative, David Rudd; caregiver, Linda Gardo Garrison; and many loving neighbors and friends.
Funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Sunday Oct. 14 at Jones Avenue Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
