• Benefit planned for Anita Owens July 28

All are invited to attend a cancer benefit for Anita Owens at the Ooleney Community Building in Pumpkintown on Saturday, July 28. The event will start at 7 a.m. and will run throughout the day. The benefit will include a raffle, door prizes and a yard sale. Hot dog and barbecue plates will be sold at the event, with live music playing throughout. All proceeds from the event will go toward helping Owens with medical expenses.

• Storytelling event scheduled in Clemson

Do you have stories to share? There will be a storytelling gathering on Tuesday, July 24, at 7 p.m. with Clemson Area StoryTellers at the Arts Center of Clemson, located at 212 Butler St. Come to tell your personal stories, folktales, songs, poems and more or just come to listen. Storytellers from beginners to professionals are welcome to an informal, relaxed evening of sharing tales and learning about storytelling. Call (864) 855-6396 for more information.

Clemson Area StoryTellers (CAST) is an all-volunteer arts group dedicated to promoting and preserving the art of storytelling.

• Lusk Memorial Golf Tournament planned

On Sept. 21, The Rock Golf Club and Resort will be the site of the first ever Logan Lusk Memorial Golf Tournament.

Lusk, who was killed last February in an auto accident, will have the event named in his honor. The tournament is a benefit for the Logan Lusk Memorial Scholarship at Lander University and high school seniors around Pickens County.

Registration and lunch will be at noon, with a captain’s choice format and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Cost is $100 per person or $400 per team.

• First responders prayer rally planned

On Aug. 2, Cafe Connections will be hosting its third annual First Responders Public Prayer Rally and Appreciation day. The public is invited to come and be a part of the event. Cafe Connections will feed all the first responders breakfast at 7:30 a.m., and the public prayer rally will begin at 8:30 a.m.

• Amazing Grace to hold early services

Amazing Grace Lutheran Church invites the public to visit Sunday morning for worship and fellowship at 8:45 a.m.

The services are held in the Dillard chapel, located at 2402 Gentry Memorial Highway in Pickens.

• Legion Post 67 seeks members

American Legion Post 67 in Liberty is accepting applications for membership from all U.S. military wartime veterans.

• Pickens Concert Choir to perform

The Pickens Concert Choir will perform on Friday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. in the Holly Springs Center at 120-B Holly Springs School Road in Pickens, just off U.S. Highway 178 north of Pickens. The concert will include classic jazz and rock selections, as well as a few surprises. Tickets are $10 at the door.

• Sertoma Club invites locals to meet

The Clemson Sertoma Club invites all local residents to attend its meetings. The club meets at noon the first and third Tuesdays of each month at Occasions at Wedgefield, located at 1551 Eighteen Mile Road in Central. New visitors are always welcome.

• Pickens Lions plan meetings each month

The Pickens Lions Club is in need of new members. The club meets the first and third Thursday of every month at Pizza Inn in Pickens. Dinner begins at 6:40 p.m., and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. Meetings are open to anyone interested in joining the club or simply finding out more about the club and how it serves Pickens.
