Hazel S. West
Easley — Hazel Smith West, 86, widow of the late Virgil Leslie West, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
She was born in Easley to the late Dewey and Elsie Ellenburg Smith. Surviving are a sister, Lois Smith Stewart; two nieces, Kim Garner (Mike) and Kay Arnold (Jimmy); two nephews, Jeff Derrick (Rhonda) and Skip Smith (Kathy); and a host of loving grand-nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Welton “Bud” Smith.
A graveside service was 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21 at Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.

Betty Owens Lappin
Easley — Betty Owens Lappin, 83, of 206 Asbury Circle, wife of the late Royal Eugene Lappin, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012 at McCall Hospice House after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Davenport, Iowa, Mrs. Lappin was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie Eikam Owens. She graduated from Davenport High School and attended the University of Iowa.
Mrs. Lappin was a member of Easley Presbyterian Church. For many years, she volunteered for Baptist Easley Hospital and the Shriners Hospital for Children, and she was a former Welcome Wagon Hostess. In addition, Mrs. Lappin was a co-founder of the Blue Chip Ladies Investment Club, and she was a former substitute teacher at Easley Junior High as well as Easley Senior High School. She enjoyed knitting “Blankets of Love.”
Surviving are her three sons, Thomas E. Lappin and his wife, Maria, of Greer, David O. Lappin and his wife, Harriet, Daniel C. Lappin and his wife, Kim, all of Easley; two daughters, Nancy L. Callahan and her husband, Sonny, of Greer, and Lisa L. Lucas and her husband, Barry, of Cumming, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, Christopher (Brie) and Marisa Lappin, Chelsea and Zachary Lappin, Benjamin (Kristen) and Matthew (Ashley) Lappin, Kelli and Jacob Callahan, Clay, Ben and Eliza Lucas; three great-grandchildren, James Royal, Hayley, and Aubrey Lappin, as well as an expected great-grandson; and three step-grandchildren, Grady, Brian (Melanie) and Casey (MarthaAnn) Callahan.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road with the Rev. Christie Gravely and the Rev. Casey Callahan officiating. Entombment followed in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum at Robinson Memorial Gardens.

Thomas Nalley
Easley — Thomas Harrison Nalley, 84, husband of Betty Hunt Nalley, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at McCall Hospice House, in Simpsonville.
Born in Easley, to the late Tom and Ethel Foster Nalley, “Bud”, as he was known to everybody, was a hard worker all of his life. He spent half of his life owning and operating his own lumber business, and the other half doing pipeline construction. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed traveling with Betty, as they have been to all 50 states.
He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, David (Debbie), Benny (Sandra), and Danny (Amy) Nalley; four grandchildren, Megan, Bridget, and Lindsay Nalley, and Laura Cox; and a sister, Emmanan Dillard.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday, at Fairview United Methodist Church. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Faye T. Nabors
Pickens — Faye Tucker Nabors, 77, of 297 Anthony Road, wife of Eugene Nabors, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at her home.
Born in Sylva, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Dayton and Bertha Griffen Tucker.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are her children, Larry Broadway of the home and Deborah Wynett of N.C.; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a brother, Roy Tucker of Sylva, N.C.
She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services were held on Friday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ed Atkinson
Easley — Charles Edward “Ed” Atkinson, 80, of 217 South Seventh Street, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 at Hospice of the Upstate.
Born in Oconee County, a son of the late Charlie and Sally Britton Atkinson, Mr. Atkinson retired from Southern Weaving after 14 years of service and later worked for the City of Easley. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Catherine “Cat” Suddeth Atkinson of the home; two sisters, Marcella Hollihan of Greer and Carolyn Brooks of Greenville.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkinson was predeceased by a brother, Dennis “Dinky” Atkinson.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Westview Cemetery.

Roberta Permenter
Pickens — Roberta Ann Sullins Permenter, 69, of 138 Rosemond Street, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012 at Redeemer Health & Rehab.
Born in Marion, N.C. she was the widow of James Permenter and a daughter of the late William Andrew and Vera Duncan Sullins. She retired from Security Finance and was of the Wesleyan Faith.
Surviving are two daughters, Kim Varner (James) of Pickens, and Lorraine Thompson of Lexington; three sons, Billy Cody (Wanda), and Ken Hall (Karla) all of Pickens, and Kyle Porter of Easley; six grandchildren, Jennifer Hoover, Amanda Cody, Chris Varner, Kenley Hall, Kody Hall, and Nancy Byers; two great grandchildren, Colton Hoover and Kayde Cody.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Permenter were 3 p.m. Monday at Golden Grove Wesleyan Church. Burial was in the churchyard.

Hazel C. Poe
Clemson — Hazel Collings Poe, 89, widow of Herbert Vernon Poe, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Clemson, she was daughter of the late, Gilbeart H. and Hazel Cover Collings. She held a B.S. degree from the Univ. of GA, a J.D. from Duke University and was admitted to the SC Bar in 1945. She worked for several years for the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC as a legislative analyst and editor of their legislative digest. She served as Municipal Court Administrator and Municipal Judge for the City of Clemson for some 10 years. As a member of the Steering Committee, she helped set up the first Clemson Community Library, served on the first Board of Directors of the Friends of the Library, and was an officer of later Boards. She also served as a Board member of the Clemson Area Retirement Center. She was a member of the Browsers Book Club, held Life Master status in the ACBL duplicate bridge, was a retired member of the SC Bar Association, a former member of the American Bar Association and the National Association of Womens Lawyers, and was a life-time member of the First Baptist Church of Clemson.
She is survived by daughters, Dr. Christine P. Krohn of Houston and Nancy P. Carnes of Durham, N.C.; son, Steven Herbert Poe (Diane) of Indianapolis; grandsons, Ian Morgan Carnes of Mt. Pleasant, Howard Krohn of St. Louis, Aaron and Ethan Krohn of Houston; and brother, Dr. Thomas A. Collings of Spartanburg.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central with the Rev. Dr. Rusty Brock officiating.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

James Ramey
Marietta — Horace James Ramey, 67, of 124 Johnson Holler Drive, died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Majesty Health & Rehab.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late William A. and Mamie Summers Ramey, James was formerly employed with Sears and was member of Glassy Mountain View Independent Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys Fant Ramey of the home; a son, Ricky Ramey of Marietta; grandson, Colton Ramey; granddaughter, Kaylee Porter; four brothers, Lewis Ramey of Greenville, Curtis Ramey, Mike Ramey and Eugene Ramey, all of Easley; four sisters, Dellie Bridges, Nellie Moon and Jane Arnold, all of Easley, and Luellen Dare of Pickens.
In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by three sisters.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.
The family is at the residence.

Florine Grubbs
Liberty — Florine Alexander Grubbs, 80, of 127 Shadow Hills Lane, wife of the late Fred Edger Grubbs, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012 at AnMed Health Center.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Robert and Onie Turner Alexander, Mrs. Grubbs retired from J.P. Stevens Corp. and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Jerry A. Grubbs (Judy) of Pelzer, and Jimmy Grubbs and Freddie E. Grubbs III (Pam), all of Liberty; two daughters, Patricia Brandt (David) of North Augusta, and Rose Grubbs (Joey Leopard) of Liberty; a brother, Elijah Alexander of Greenville; a sister, Sue Alexander of Greenville; 11 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Grubbs was predeceased by a son, David Earl Grubbs and by a daughter, Betty Jean Grubbs.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Graceland West Cemetery.

Randy Ellis
Easley — James Randolph “Randy” Ellis, 81, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012 at AnMed Health Center.
Born in Anderson County, a son of the late Rev. J.H. and Elizabeth Gambrell Ellis, Randy retired as a manager at Thom McAn and was a charter member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, James C. Ellis (Linda) of Semmes, Ala., Michael A. Ellis (Nancy) of Fountain Inn, and the Rev. Barry D. Ellis (Carol) of Lebanon, Tenn.; a brother, Earl Ellis (Barbara) of Easley; four grandchildren, Brian, David, Jason and Amy Ellis; a step-brother, Tommy Henderson of Easley; two step-sisters, Barbara Temples of Greenville and Donna Bennett of Easley; and the mother of his children, Frances Jones Snyder of Easley.
In addition to his parents, Randy was predeceased by his step-mother, Louise Henderson Ellis.
Graveside services were 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
