EASLEY — United Christian Ministries (UCM) will host its first-ever Fall Fest 5K Run and Walk this Saturday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the amphitheater and Old Market Square in downtown Easley.

Since 1989, UCM has been serving people in need throughout the Pickens and northern Anderson (Powdersville) communities. At its inception, UCM was supported by approximately 48 supporting churches. Today, more than 80 area churches provide resources through faithful financial gifts, donations of food and clothing, and volunteers who are truly the hearts and hands of UCM services.
A cooperative effort, UCM helps people in Pickens County in need of food, clothing, winter warmth, and help with household items like rent, utility payments and electricity. They are able to help those in need because of the generous philanthropy of people in the Pickens community who have the provisions to donate to this cornerstone organization.

With the winter season nipping at our heels, UCM will have many demands for food, warm clothing and offering people the financial assistance needed to heat their homes.

The first annual Fall Fest 5K Run and Walk this Saturday is a fundraiser to help UCM supplement the donations they receive.

Runners and walkers will kick off the Fall Fest in Easley’s Old Market Square with an 8 a.m. start time for the 5K walk and run. Participant pre-registration ended on October 27; however, forms for the event are available for download at www.ucmpc.org. The cost for race day registration is $20, and there is a 1K Fun Walk for a registration fee of $10.

An award ceremony will follow the 5K event.

Other Fall Fest activities begin at 9 a.m. and will continue until 1 p.m. on and around Easley’s amphitheater stage. A great line-up of local musicians features Sunlit Moon (a local band from St. Andrew United Methodist Church); United Men’s Choir of Easley; Mountain View Baptist Quartet (from the Six Mile area); and Danielle Yother (the winner of the Pickens County Has Talent competition and a member of Pickens First Baptist Church).

While festival-goers enjoy music, they will also be able to feast on free hotdogs and hamburgers thanks to the sponsorship of area churches and businesses.
Of course no festival would be complete without games and inflatable fun for kids, crafts and a variety of information.
