KATHY KELLEY REECE

CENTRAL — Kathy Kelley Reece, 68, passed from this life on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, after a long illness, at her sister’s (Anita) home in Central.

Born in Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Lake Kelley and Ezelle Taylor Kelley and wife of the late Marvin Leroy Reece.

She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was retired as a machinist at Propex Fibers.

Survivors include two sisters, Anita Whitaker and Norma Lynn Kelley; two brothers, Colen Eugene Kelley and Keith Bud Kelley; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Doris Ramey and Mrs. Sue Smith. Mrs. Reece also leaves several nieces and nephews to share in her memory. In addition to her parents and her husband of 35 years, she was predeceased by a sister, Syble Kelley.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 12 in the chapel at Dillard Funeral Home. Burial occurred at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

BONNIE V. GARRISON

PIEDMONT — Bonnie V. Garrison, 92, went to be with her Lord on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, in Piedmont.

Born in Dacusville, she was the daughter of the late Hugh Garrison and Seldon and Georgia Hill.

She was a member of Freedom Assembly of God and was retired as a dental assistant.

Survivors include two brothers, Glenn Garrison of Clemson and Ralph Garrison of Easley. Bonnie also leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins to share in her memory. The family would also like to give a special thanks to the staff of Palladium and Palliative Care.

A funeral service was held on Nov. 16 at the Dillard Funeral Home chapel. Entombment occurred at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

FRANCES JAYNE OLSON

LIBERTY — Frances Jayne Olson, 81, wife of Dewey E. Olson, passed away on Nov. 8, 2018.

A Minnesota native, Mrs. Olson was the daughter of the late Leonard and Esther Salomonson of Hitterdal, Minn.

She is survived by her husband, Dewey, of Liberty; her daughters, Deborah Ulstad and Teresa Pschorr of Easley; and her son, Jeffery (Renee), of Decatur, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Calvin (Joanne) Olson of Sioux City, Iowa.

She leaves six grandchildren, Ms. Jessica (Daryl Hemenway) Ulstad of San Jose, Calif., Ms. Marissa (Eric Volk) Ulstad of St. Louis Park, Minn., Ms. Erika (Kristi) McClure of Denton, Texas, Ms. Emily Olson (Neil Norton) of Anaheim, Calif., Joshua (Whitney) Pschorr of Seattle, Wash., and Tucker Pschorr of Easley. She was a proud great grandmother of four, Phineus, Asa, Minnie and Sam.

Mrs. Olson attended public school in Hitterdal, Minn. She and her husband traveled extensively, visiting all 48 contiguous states, Hawaii, Canada, and Mexico. They were formerly residents of Minnesota, Texas, Illinois, North Dakota, Iowa, New York, Georgia and North Carolina. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She quickly established new homes in each new location as her husband took new jobs in his 30-year career with IBM.

She was an expert seamstress and loved sewing clothes for her children and grandchildren. She also used those skills to sew many church banners. She was a lifelong Lutheran and was an active member of St. Matthais Lutheran Church. She was also a talented painter and painted many of her husband’s wood carvings that decorated their home. She served in many leadership positions with WELCA (Woman of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America).

She was recently awarded a lifetime membership in South Carolina WELCA. She was an active member of the Lucy Holcombe Pickens Chapter of Questers, serving as president and several other leadership positions.

A memorial service was held on Nov. 17 at St. Matthias Lutheran Church in Easley.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to St. Matthias Lutheran Church in Easley.

NETTIE MARIE

DODGENS HAYES

PICKENS — Marie “Mac” Dodgens Hayes, 100, of 256 North Glassy Mountain Road, Pickens, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018.

She was born on June 2, 1918, to William Riley and Sarah Byers Dodgens and was the last survivor of her immediate family.

She is survived by one son, Heyward Hayes (Joyce), and two daughters, Yvonne Morgan and Karen Powell (Carl), all of Pickens. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hayes was a lifetime member of Griffin Baptist Church. Not only did she love the Lord, but she also enjoyed sharing by showing that love to others.

She loved to cook and left her table open to all who came. She was also known for her “hot dog chili.” She enjoyed working in her garden and canning her own food. Her hands and feet were never idle.

Many of her years were spent raising her own children and grandchildren, but she was also a child caregiver for 33 children over the years. Her love, wisdom, wit and patience will be missed by many.

Mrs. Hayes was predeceased by her husband, Ellis O. Hayes, and one son, Tony O. Hayes. She was also predeceased by her parents and 13 brothers and sisters.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, Nov. 17, at Griffin Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

PAUL C. “FUZZ” HOILMAN

CENTRAL — Paul Clayton “Fuzz” Hoilman, 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Marion, N.C., he was the son of the late Ernest and Elva Alfreda Wise Hoilman.

Mr. Hoilman retired from Foothills Insulation and attended Antioch Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a founding member of the Foothills Beagle Club.

Surviving are his wife, Margie Hendricks Hoilman of the home; a daughter, Anna Burkett (Dale) of Pickens; two sons, Avery “Boogie” Hoilman (Joy) of Liberty and Scott Ellenburg (Jennifer) of Rock Hill; a sister, Helen Kelly of Liberty; and five grandchildren, Avery Hoilman, Logan Simmons, Clayton Burkett, Seth Simmons and Makayla Hoilman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin sister, Paula Ellenburg Rorick.

Funeral services to celebrate Fuzz’s life were conducted on Nov. 17 in the Liberty Mortuary chapel. Burial followed at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

DUB GARREN

EASLEY — Mr. William Thomas “Dub” Garren, 90, husband of the late Faye McCall Garren, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Sedrick H. Garren and the late Effie Brown Garren, Mr. Garren was retired from Woodside Mills. He had a passion for cars and bicycles, which led him to owning and operating Garren’s Used Cars. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a daughter, Vickie Garren Smith (Richard) of Easley; two grandchildren, Scott Smith of Augusta, Ga., and Ricky Smith (Patsy) of Easley; two great-grandchildren, Austin Smith and Aimee Smith Winchester (Daniel); a soon-to-be-born great-great-grandson, Boone Winchester; a special friend, Delores Donehue of Easley, and his furbaby, Baby.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Garren was predeceased by three brothers, Ossie, Ed and Bunk Garren; and a sister, Mary Inez Ellenburg.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 16 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with Rev. Scott Willis officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

JAMES LEWIS RAY

PICKENS — James Lewis Ray, 75, of Pickens, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at his home.

Born on April 26, 1943, in East Ridge, Tenn., he was the son of the late Howard Emmit and Minnie Lee Wilson Ray. He was of the Church of God faith.

Surviving are his wife, Lily Ray; three children, Jerry Anderson Ray of Pickens, Andrea Niechole Ray of Pickens and Joseph Donald Ray of Eureka, Calif.; one brother, Howard Jerry Ray of Hixon, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Marcus Daesean Drayton Sr. (Samantha Jones), Elizabeth Cheyenne Drayton, Morgan Seanne’ Ray and Katilynn Brianna Ray; two great-grandchildren, Marcus Drayton Jr and Carriagan Drayton; two aunts and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ray was also predeceased by two sons, James Ray II and Douglas Scott Ray; two sisters, Betty Wilkins and Linda Morgan, and one foster brother, Wayne Hand.

A casual family and friends gathering will be held to memorialize Mr. Ray on Saturday, Nov. 24, from 2-3 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home.
