Calvin Hughes
Easley — Calvin Curtis Hughes, Sr., 79, of 118 Nora Avenue, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at his home.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Ed and Dora Turner Hughes, Mr. Hughes was a self employed carpenter and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Surviving are four children, Calvin Hughes, Jr., Elaine Stokes (Joe), Drew Hughes and Shirley Raines; six grandchildren, two of which are very special, Nikki Stokes, who he called his ray of sunshine and Wesley Stokes; six great-grandchildren, one of which was very special, Halie Stokes; two special sisters, Faye Mills and Wilma Strange; two special sisters-in-law, Jenny Hughes and Jennie Lance; and two special nieces, Jean Smith and Norma Price.
Memorial services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26 at Tremont Church of God, 2854 New Easley Highway, Greenville, SC with Pastor Timothy Kerns officiating.

John E. Stewart
Pickens — John Edward Stewart, 80, husband of Lela Nichols Stewart, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012.
Mr. Stewart was born in Macon County, N.C., a son of the late Luther and Ollie Moss Stewart. He was retired from Winn-Dixie as a truck driver and he was a Christian. Mr. Stewart proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lela N. Stewart of the home, daughters, Sherliene Stewart of Pickens and Vickie Merck of Anderson , sons, Dwaine Stewart (Janice) of Travelers Rest, and Keith Stewart of the home, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Odell Stewart of Cashiers, N.C.
Funeral Services were conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens with the Rev. David Ellenburg officiating. Entombment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens Chapel Mausoleum.

Bob Mauldin
Six Mile — James Robert “Bob” Mauldin, 82, of Walhalla Highway, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012.
Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Clarence and Floy Winchester Mauldin. Mr. Mauldin was retired from Milliken, Judson Plant, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife of the home, Doris Tompkins Mauldin; a son, Robert Mauldin (Nancy) of Liberty; a daughter, Angela Winchester (Danny) of Six Mile; five grandchildren, Kristen and Kayla Mauldin, Kyle and Alexis Winchester and Carson Mauldin; a daughter-in-law, Sheliah Mauldin Baker (Jeff) of Six Mile; and a sister, Evelyn Hinton of Six Mile.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Randall Scott Mauldin.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Dec. 30 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed in Lawrence Chapel UMC Cemetery in Central.

David H. Jones, Jr.
Cleveland — David Horace Jones, Jr., 74, of 310 Raven Cliff Road, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012 at his home.
Born in Lakeland, Fla., a son of the late David Horace Jones, Sr. and the late Genevieve Burnette Newman, Mr. Jones retired as a superintendent with Farmland Hydro in Bartow, Fla., after 33 years of service and had served in the 82nd Air Borne with the U.S. Army. He was a member of Life Church in Dacusville.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene Sheridan Jones of the home; a son, Kevin David Jones (Aimee) of Lakeland, Fla.; a daughter, Karen Kochenburger (Jim) of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; a sister, Sherri Morgan of Bartow, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Jones is being sent to Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home Southside in Lakeland, Fla. where services and burial will take place.

Jack Pelfrey
Pickens — Jack Welborn Perfrey, 82, of Pickens, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at his home.
Born in Oconee County, Mr. Pelfrey was a son of the late Joe Decatur and Jassie Elizabeth Davis Pelfrey. He worked for Singer Company and was sub-contractor for Michelin Tire. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War.
Surviving are a son, Richard T. Pelfrey of Pickens; a daughter, Jackie Ellis of Liberty; eight grandchildren.
Mr. Pelfrey was predeceased by a son, Randell Pelfrey.

Daniel Paul Stilo
Easley — Daniel Paul Stilo, 87, husband of Rose Marie Scheuerman Stilo, died on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012.
Mr. Stilo was born in Racine, Wis., a son of the late Cosimo and Helen Antastiso Stilo. He was retired from Racine Trucking Company and he was a member of Emmanuel Luthern Church in Easley. Mr. Stilo proudly served his country by serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Rose Marie Stilo of the home, a daughter Diana Papala (Milan) of Easley, two grandchildren, Heather Hess (Joseph) and Nicholas Papala (Christy), and four great grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, Nicholas, and Milan.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens with the Rev. Greg Longtin officiating. Burial with military rites followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens, Veteran’s Garden.

Adam Anthony
Easley — Adam Joseph Anthony, 33, of Easley, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Greenville County, a son of John Rodger Anthony of Liberty and Janice McAlister Anthony of Simpsonville, Adam was formerly a self-employed painter and a member of First Baptist Church, Easley. He enjoyed drawing, hunting and the outdoors.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a daughter, Ashley Jordan Anthony of Woodruff and a brother, John Mathis Anthony of Liberty.
Private services were held Sunday.

Gertrude D. Shepherd
Easley — Gertrude Dean Shepherd, 92, of Easley died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Liberty.
Born in Anderson County, Mrs. Shepherd was a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Etta Elizabeth Holiday Dean. She retired from Alta Vista Health Care and was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church, Easley. Mrs. Shepherd was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are a son, Larry Wayne Shepherd (Sandra) of Greenville; two daughters, Joyce Holder (Furman) of Easley and Peggy Alexander of Liberty, 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Shepherd was predeceased by two sons, John Earl Shepherd and James C. Shepherd and by three brothers and seven sisters.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24 at Pendleton Street Baptist Church, Easley. Burial followed in Pine Lawn Cemetery in Pelzer.

Easley — Mrs. Marjorie Raines Paulos, 90, wife of the late Billy L. Paulos, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012 at National Health Care in Mauldin.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Clyde Steven Raines, Sr. and the late Mary Lee Heeney Raines, Mrs. Paulos was a homemaker and a member of Dacusville United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the W.M.U.
Surviving are two daughters, Toni P. Morgan (Bill) of Powdersville and Terri P. Zagars (Andy) of Monument, Colo.; six sisters, Elizabeth Law of Troy, Ala., Nancy Sanders of Greenville, Clara Leslie of Dacusville, Barbara Addington of Lexington, Pat Rainey of Piedmont and Sharon Hensley of Greenville; three grandchildren, Christine Cook, Michelle Sleiman and Chad Zagars; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Paulos was predeceased by three brothers, Jim, Jack and Steve Raines; and one sister, Dorothy Stine.
Funeral services were 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29 at Dacusville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Will Harper officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

William Patterson
Liberty — Mr. William Patterson, 72, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Earl J. Patterson, Sr. and the late Margaret Finley Patterson, Mr. Patterson was a retired painter and a member of Six Mile Baptist Church.
Surviving are a brother, Johnny Patterson of Easley, and a sister, Geneva Gilstrap of Six Mile.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Patterson was predeceased by two brothers, Jackson and Carl Patterson.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with the Rev. Ray Longenecker and the Rev. Greg Phillips officiating. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery, West.

Kenneth Broome
Easley — Kenneth Malcolm Broome, 61, husband of Jackie Crenshaw Broome, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012 at Baptist Easley.
Born in Greenville, to the late Marshall and Betheane Alexander Broome, Kenneth was a hard worker his whole life with a heart of gold, and he worked construction as a rod buster until his retirement. Mr. Broome enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of Crosswell Apostolic Church in Easley. He loved his family dearly, they meant everything to him, and he would not hesitate to give the shirt off his back to a stranger.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Chris William Broome; two daughters, Regina Lee Long, and Mindy Sue Gill; eight grandchildren, Amber Long Abbott, Michael Gill, Michael Huffstetler, Brooke Gill, Brayden Leese, Emily Broome, Steven Anders, Griffith Rice; and a great-grandchild, Aubrey LeeAnn Abbott.

Eleanor King
Easley — Eleanor Grace “Sue” Scott King, 85, of Easley, wife of the late Maxwell Hobson King, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Anderson County, Mrs. King was a daughter of the late Henry Johnstone and Allie Mae Broadwell Scott. She retired as a bookkeeper for Hillcrest Memorial Park and was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Gary Lee King (Susan) and James Maxwell King; a daughter, Susan Dianna King Smith (Donnie); a sister, Mable Wilkerson (TR); five grandchildren, Gary “Lee” Jr., Jefferson and Eric King, Wesley Smith and Amelia Smith Richburgh (Levi).
Mrs. King was predeceased by five sisters, Christine Lopez, Mildred Cheek, Pauline Drake, Hilda Warren and Marion Helms.
Funeral services were 3:30 p.m. Friday Dec. 28 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed at 3 p.m. Saturday in West View Memorial Park in Hartsville.

Willie Kelley Stephens
Pickens — Willie Betty Kelley Stephens, 87, of Pickens, widow of James E. Stephens, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012.
Born in Pickens County on Feb. 3, 1925, the daughter of the late Walter and Tecy Ellenburg Kelley. Mrs. Stephens retired from Cannon Memorial Hospital and was a charter member of Morning Star Baptist Church.
Surviving are sons, Roger Stephens and wife Vickie of Lexington; Nelson Stephens and wife Cindy of Liberty; daughter-in-law, Tammy Stephens of Liberty; six grandchildren, Sunday S. Anderson, Leanna S. McKay, Suzanne S. Dunaway, Gwen Stephens, Kenya S. Moore, and Keith Stephens; 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Stanley Stephens; a brother, Carl Kelley; sisters, Inez K. Finley, Blanche K. Smith and Mae K. Aiken.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 29 at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with Pastor David Ellenburg officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

HENRY KORNEGAY “Hank” BYRD
Pumpkintown — Henry Kornegay “Hank” Byrd, 58, husband of Debbie Byrd for 31 years, died on Dec. 26, 2012.
Born Feb. 2, 1954 in Abbeville, to the late Jeff Byrd, Jr. and Minnie Lee Byrd, he was an avid hunter known for his love of deer and turkey hunting. He attended Holly Springs Baptist Church and was an alumnus of the University of South Carolina.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Charley Byrd and Sunny Byrd Haskett and her husband Ryan; a brother Jeff T. Byrd, III and wife Linda; nephews Josh Byrd and wife Renee and their daughter; and Daniel and wife Diana and their children.
The memorial service was 4 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home.

Virginia C. Adams
Easley — Virginia Collins Adams, 88, of 103 Belmont Circle, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 at her home.
Born in Oconee County, a daughter of the late Henry and Margaret Hare Collins, Mrs. Adams retired from Walhalla Garment Company after 45 years of service, and was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, James “Jim” Adams and Roger Adams (Sandra), both of Easley; a daughter Mable Payne (Everett) of Greenville; two brothers, Roy Collins of Seneca and Winfred “Fred” Collins of Federal Way, Wash.; four sisters, Helen Youce of Greenville, Janet Sanders of Walhalla, and Elizabeth Posey and Jo Mantooth, both of Ill.; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; and her extended family, Sue Simmons, Angie Simmons and Marie McJunkin, all of Easley and Tasha Barnes of Six Mile.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Adams was predeceased by two sons, Richard Adams and Bruce Adams and by two sisters, Dorothy Collins and Ruth Phillips.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Stamp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Salem.
Visitation will be from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
