BOB EFLIN

CLEMSON — Robert Dean “Bob” Eflin, 83, of Clemson Downs, and longtime Clemson resident died peacefully on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013.
Born in Wichita, Kan. he was the widower of Janet Eflin and a son of the late Elmer and Louise Eflin. He was a founding member of Schaefer, Schirmer, and Eflin Architectural Firm in Wichita, Kan. He later retired as a Professor Emeritus & Master Planner for Clemson University and was also a custom home builder.

Surviving are a daughter, Lynn LaClair of Aiken; two sons, Camden Eflin of Liberty and Vance Eflin of Inarajan, Guam; a brother, Richard Eflin of Naples, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services to honor his life will be held at a later date.

EDGAR E. MAULDIN

EASLEY — Edgar E. Mauldin, 91, of Easley husband of the late Essie Ruth Dillard Mauldin, died Jan. 31, 2013 at his home.
Born in Anderson County, Mr. Maudlin was a son of the late Julius E. Mauldin and Eva Gibson Mauldin. He retired from Saco Lowell and was a member of Jones Ave. Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are a sister, Alma Langston; two special nieces, Bethel Finley and Ethel McWhorter both of Easley and many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

LIBERTY — Glenis Marie Riley Rush, 64, wife of Michael E. Rush, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.
Marie was born in Kentuck, W.Va., a daughter of Paul V. Riley of Long Bottom, Ohio and the late Pauline White Riley. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Easley.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Michael, of the home, sons, Michael E. Rush, Jr. of Liberty and PFC David A. Summerall, U.S. Army, Ft. Hood, Texas and a daughter, Melissa A. Owens (Philip) of Easley. Also surviving is a brother, John Riley of Long Bottom, Ohio and sisters, Naomi Norman of Crawfordville, Fla., Phyllis Lattimer of Vista, Calif., Betty Cottril of Youngstown, Ohio, and Janet Burgman of Long Bottom, Ohio.

Funeral services were conducted 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Entombment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens Mausoleum III.

THOMAS BRADY

LIBERTY — Thomas C. “TC” Brady, 65, of Liberty husband of Diane L. Brady, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 after a long illness.
Born in Woodruff, Mr. Brady was a son of the late John “Cotton” and Ruth Grant Brady, he graduated from Travelers Rest High School and was a member of First Baptist Church of Norris. Mr. Brady was a Viet Nam veteran having served in the U.S. Army and also served over 20 years with the South Carolina National Guard.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Kelly Harrison (BJ); a son, Todd Brady (Melissa); two sisters, Gale Noon (Bill), Judy Dillard (Johnny); two brothers, Danny Ray Brady and John Brady (Jean); five grandchildren, Zander Harrison, Erin White, Leslie Borders, Jessica McCall and Rebecca Borders.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

JANIE MAE SMITH

PICKENS — Janie Mae Johnson Smith, 92, widow of James Harvey “Red” Smith died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at Lila Doyle Nursing Center in Seneca.

Mrs. Smith was born in Oconee County, a daughter of the late Lawrence Sylvester and Thelma Fowler Johnson. For many years she worked in textiles at the Gayley Plant and Runnymede Plant in Pickens. She was a member of Blue Ridge View Baptist Church in Easley.

Survivors include a daughter, Lillie Mae Masters (Olin) of Pickens, sons, James M. Smith (Joan) of Pickens, L. C. Smith (Arlene) of Niederwald, Texas, and Robert Carl Smith of Pickens. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren giving her eight sets of five generations. Also sisters include Christine Harper, Frances Lusk, Geraldine Raines, Ruby Lee Burton, and Joann Queen.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a daughter, Sylvia Smith, brothers, Willie Johnson and Bud Johnson, and a sister, Minnie Cantrell.

Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Dillard Funeral Home in the chapel. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

PICKENS — Edith Deborah Diane Simpson, 59, of Pickens, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at her home.

Diane was born in Oconee County, a daughter of the late Lee Doyle Pelfrey and Edith Smith L. Cooley of Seneca. She was formerly employed with the Seneca Plant of J. P. Stevens Company and she was a Baptist.

Survivors include her mother of Seneca, daughters, Kay Edwards of Pickens, Linda Simpson of Seneca, and Mandy Aquino of Liberty and a son, Joshua Lane Simpson of Greenville, and eight granddaughters. Also surviving is a sister, Rebecca Argo of Seneca, and brother, Anthony Doyle Pelfrey of Quinton, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Ramsey Creek Preserve near Westminster.

RONNIE A. GOLDEN

EASLEY — Ronnie Alton Golden, 63, of Easley, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013.

Born in Six Mile, Ronnie was a son of the late Richard Duff and Mae Boggs Golden. He was formerly employed with Alice Manufacturing Co. and later with SCDOT. He was a Mason and was of the Church of God faith.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Gail Golden; two sons, Thomas Golden and David Golden; a brother, Darrell Golden (Marion); three sisters, Loretta Hunter (Curtis) and Connie Faye Barnes and Ruth Gibson; and four grandchildren; Noah, Elijah, Karma and Camilla Golden.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Edward Golden and by three sisters, June Hendricks, and twin sisters.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral-Downtown. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Central.

MARGARET PRICE TROTTER

PICKENS — Margaret Price Trotter, age 89, wife of the late John Prue Trotter, died Thursday Jan. 31, 2013 at Cannon Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Trotter was born in Newport News, Va., daughter of the late Luther Pickens Price and Denna Sutherland Price, she was a member of East Pickens Baptist Church. Mrs. Trotter retired from Sangamo Electric Company. Mrs. Trotter was an avid fan of nature and loved the outdoors. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a very loving person that will be greatly missed by friends and family.

Survivors include, one son; Fulton M. (Butch) Trotter wife Phyllis of Pickens, two grandchildren; Michel Ann Chandler husband Richard, Doctor’s Jesse Davis wife Michelle of Warner Robins, Ga., three great-grandsons.

Mrs. Trotter was predeceased by her husband, parents and one son; Jerry P Trotter, also two brothers and one sister.
A Graveside service was 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

JAMES M. POWELL
PICKENS — Mr. James McClellen Powell, 63, of 201 North Catherine Street, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013 at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Easley, he was a son of the late Rev. Tirel and Myrtle Atkins Powell. He was a member of Blue Ridge View Baptist Church. James attended Pickens High School where he was an award winning FFA member. He was an avid fisherman and hunter belonging to the Cove Creek Beagle Club for the past seven years. James also enjoyed watching and attending the Braves Baseball games and was a devoted South Carolina Gamecock.

James is survived by three sisters, Brenda Hayes (Arthur) and Kathy Masters (Randall), all of Pickens, and Janie Mitchell (Gary) of Honea Path; one brother, Sherren Powell of Easley. He is also survived by beloved nieces and nephews, Heath Hudson, Jessica Masters, Tyson Powell, Jade Clark and Bailey Medlin; great-nieces, Zoe Hester, Hannah Hudson, Madelyn and Eden Powell; and great-nephews, Blake Hudson, Jaxson Powell and Zack Clark.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. at Blue Ridge View Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Stuart Houston and the Rev. James “Buckshot” Avant officiating.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Hospice Care of South Carolina, especially Kim Thrasher, Sabrina Alexander, Angie Cole and Chad Bowen who took such good care of James in his last days. And a special thank you to all his friends who regularly came by to cheer him up, especially Jerry O’Shields and Richard Galloway.

GREAT FALLS — Betty Cooper, 88, longtime resident of Great Falls died on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens.

Born in Great Falls she was a daughter of the late Sidney and Lillian Robinson Cooper. She retired from Great Falls High School and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are a sister, Pat Beukema of Liberty, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin Cooper and Sidney B. Cooper, Jr.

Graveside services to honor her life will be 11 a.m. Friday at Greenlawn Cemetery in Great Falls. The family will greet with friends and relatives following the service at the graveside.
The family will be at their respective homes.

RUTH GRAHAM

EASLEY — Ruth Posey Graham, 78, wife of the late Walter Carolton Graham, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at her home in Easley.

Born in Titusville, Fla., to the late James and Rosa Wehunt Posey, Ruth worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a deliverer. Whether she was sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, making handmade dolls, or decorating cakes, Mrs. Graham loved creating things with her hands. If she wasn’t creating, then she could be found reading. She was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Auxiliary, and of the Christian faith.

She is survived by two daughters, Gayle Anne Graham of Fletcher, N.C., and Florence Rose Graham of Travelers Rest; two brothers, William Posey of Oconee, Fla., and Howard Raynor of Hamilton, Ala.; and a nephew, James B. Posey of South Florida.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, James W. Posey.

A private memorial service will be at a later date.

LIBERTY — Robert Waldon Hill, 94, of 204 Mills Avenue, husband of the late Alice Ashley Hill, died away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013.
Born on Jan. 10, 1919 in Lyon Township, Mich., he was the son of the late Hubert and Carmen Beach Hill. Mr. Hill was retired from General Motors in Pontiac Mich., and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII.

Surviving are a daughter, Sherry Kight (Kendal) of Liberty; three grandchildren, Steffanie Costal (Douglas), Victor C. Tetter II (Sarah) and Katherine D. Kight (Alex); eight great grandchildren; a brother, Stuart Hill (Joyce) of Fort Myers, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Hudson and Russell; and a sister, Madeline.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. at the family home 204 Mills Avenue, Liberty, SC 29657.

PICKENS — Ned Tillman Owens, 86, husband of Inez C. Owens, died Monday evening, Jan. 28, 2013.

Mr. Owens was born in Easley, a son of the late Jim and Willie Cooper Owens. He was an active life-long member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Easley where he had served as an usher, greeter, and Steward of the church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and he was retired from Ryobi Motor Products in Pickens.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Inez Childress Owens of the home, daughter, Carolyn Owens Johnson (Chester) of Pickens, grandchildren, Marty Owens (Tonya), Chad Reeves, Heather Owens Wilkins, and Corey Reeves (Brittani) and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Fred Owens (Lillian) of Easley and a sister, Jane Patterson (Ralph) also of Easley.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his son, Mark Owens and a brother, Leon Owens.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Easley. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens in Pickens.

LIBERTY — Bobby Rubin Johnson, Sr., 70, of 264 Watts Road died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born in White Plains, he was a widower of the late Patricia Ann Edwards Johnson and a son of the late Ralph Dee and Mamie Elizabeth Brooks Johnson. He was a retired auto mechanic that enjoyed farming and spending time with his family. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are three sons, Bobby R. Johnson, Jr., James Allen Johnson and Charles Richard Johnson, all of Liberty; two sisters, Mary and Ellen Johnson, both of Liberty; three brothers, William, J.T. and Lloyd Johnson, all of Liberty; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, Bryan Lee Johnson; and two brothers, Dee and Van Johnson.
A graveside service to honor the life of Mr. Johnson was held at 2 p.m. Friday at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

EASLEY — Buford Ray York, 78, of 156 Crimson Hollow, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 at his residence.
Born in Oconee County he was a son of the late Carl Turner and Sadie Moore Turner.

Surviving are five daughters, Deniza Kilby of Central, Rachel Howard of Liberty, Faye Adams (Ray) of Pickens, Judy York of Liberty, and Brenda Riddle (David) of Easley; a son, Jerry Ray York (Geneva) of Greenville; two sisters, Betty Cantrell and husband Doyle of Pickens, and Pat Jenkins of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Carl Turner, Jr. of Greenville, and Kenneth Turner of Florida; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren; a special niece, Cindy Galloway.

REBA (TOM) ELLENBURG

EASLEY — Reba Grace Deck Ellenburg, wife of the late Sherwood Ellenburg, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at An Med Health Center, after a brief illness.

She was born Aug. 4, 1926 to the late Grady and Bessie Jordan Deck of Pelzer. She graduated from Pelzer High School and Draughon’s Business College. After graduation, she worked at Rhodes Furniture in Easley, from 1950-1962, at which time she joined her husband in the family business. When the family business closed in 1976, she returned to Rhodes Furniture in Greenville where she worked until Rhodes closed their stores in 2005. Mrs. Ellenburg was a charter member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Rebecca Sunday School Class, where she had 44 years of perfect attendance.

Surviving are three children, Mickie Enlow, Debbie (Joe) Ellis, and Woody Ellenburg, all of Easley; three grandchildren, Samantha (Bryan) Blackston of Easley, Jobe (fiancee’ Meghan Gasmovic) Ellis, both of Charlotte, N.C. and Elle Ellis of Easley; two great-granchildren, Caleb and Cutler Blackston, also of Easley; two sisters, Jean (Bill) Martin of Greenwood, and Willie (Bert) Garrison of Piedmont; a special longtime friend, Pearley Robinson, formerly of Easley.

She was predeceased by a brother, Henry (Luvenia) Deck.
The funeral service was 3 p.m. Friday at Calvary Hill Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

LIBERTY — Lucille Mae Thompson Tolle, 95, of 9 Clemson Street died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at her residence.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, she was the widow of the late Fred Tolle and a daughter of the late Charles and Edna Thompson. She was a homemaker and loved working in her puzzle books. She was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are three daughters, Raylene Ellsberry and her husband Larry of Xenia, Ohio, Judy Ware and her husband Steve of Boise, Idaho and Sherry Moore and her husband John of the home; seven grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a son, Michael Zimmerman; one brother; and one sister.

SCOTT HART

EASLEY — Leland Scott Hart, husband of Jane Voils Hart, died on Jan. 30, 2013 at Foothills Presbyterian Community Health Center in Easley.

He was born on March 10, 1923 in Greenville County and was the son of the late Henry Earl and Lora Hawkins Hart. Scott graduated from Travelers Rest High School. After serving briefly in the Navy during WW II, he received a medical discharge and then began working with Southern Bell. His career spanned several Upstate cities before retirement as Plant Manager in Easley after 41 years of service. Scott was a member of Easley Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder and Trustee. He was a member of the Lions Club for over 60 years and served as a past president of the Easley Lions Club. He was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow award for his dedicated service. Scott had a strong commitment to community volunteerism and worked with the Boy Scouts of America, Easley Troup 26 for many years. After retirement, he also served on the South Carolina Foster Care Review Board for 14 years. “Papa” loved his family and always let each of them know through both his words and deeds. He was our personal weatherman and auto mechanic. He enjoyed gardening, playing bridge and tennis with friends, watching ACC/SEC sports and the Atlanta Braves, hiking with his grandchildren and walking the beach at Hilton Head. His sense of humor and his appreciation for all his family and friends were evident even until his passing. He was the “sunshine” of all our lives and embedded values and “life’s lessons” that we will always cherish and exemplify.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his three daughters: Martha Herbert (Michael) of Greenville; Karen Strickland (Terry) and Emily Patterson (Butch) both of Florida and one stepson, Joseph Thompson of Gainesville, Ga. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Tes Strickland Flassig (Kevin), Kayce Strickland Looper (Michael), Scott Patterson (Becky), Brad Patterson and Maggie Herbert; two step grandchildren, David Herbert and Amelia Thompson; seven great-grandchildren and two sisters, Earlene Hart Robertson (Charles) and Frankie Hart Edwards, both of Travelers Rest. He is also survived by many loved nieces and nephews. Scott was predeceased by his five brothers (Theron, Bryan, Boyce, Don and Charles) and one sister (Irene Hart Kelly).
He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Shipman Hart, in 1994.
A Memorial Service was held at Easley Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. A private committal service was held for the immediate family at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

SIX MILE — Edna Graham Kelley, 88, widow of Johnson Kelley of Six Mile, died Wednesday evening, Jan. 30, 2013.

Mrs. Kelley was born in Greenville County, a daughter of the late Sam and Velma Sanders Graham Duncan. She was retired from Pratt-Reed in Central and later worked at Six Mile Café. Mrs. Kelley was a member of Cedar Hill Holiness Church in Six Mile.
Survivors include her son, Tony Michael Kelley of Six Mile, grandson, Jon-Michael Kelley of Six Mile and half-sister, Genethel Watson (Leamon) of Six Mile.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a half-brother, Jerone Duncan and a half-sister, Nancy Porter.

EASLEY — Dorothy Lovell Syms Line Hinton, 89, of Country Side Village, died peacefully Thursday at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Liberty, she was the wife of the Rev. Joseph Walter Hinton and a daughter of the late C.B. and Iva Sanders Lovell. She was retired from the textile industry and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church in Greenville.

Surviving in addition to her husband, of the home, are stepdaughter, Diane Easley(Wallace) of Vancleave, Miss.; a stepson, Dr. Dan Hinton(Sandra) of Pickens; four nieces, Ann Stancil(Earl), Rhonda Payne(Harley), Mary McCollum( Joe) and Teresa Lee; five nephews, Jim Lovell(Jo Ann), Gene Lovell(Carolyn), David Lovell(Ann), Butch Lovell(Vickey) and Mike Lovell(Rena); and four step grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Frank Syms; her second husband, Howard Line; and two brothers.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hinton were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

WILTON O. PORTER

PICKENS — Wilton Oliver Porter, 83, husband of the late Myrtle Nicholson Hayes Porter, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013.

Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Earl and Lucy Hudson Porter. Mr. Porter was the former owner of Hillcrest Service Station. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army Veteran.

Surviving are several cousins. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

BILL LABOONE

PELZER — Joe Billie “Bill” LaBoone, 80, of 190 Joe Black Road, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at Dayspring Health & Rehab.
Born in Anderson County, a son of the late James Oliver and Selma Gambrell LaBoone, Mr. LaBoone retired from the Monaghan Plant of Milliken Corp. and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of both World War II and the Korean War.

Surviving are two sisters, Gloria Wynonna Black and Betty Jean Barnes, both of Easley.

In addition to his parents, Mr. LaBoone was predeceased by two brothers, Jones West LaBoone and James D. LaBoone.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

WILLIAM W. RAINEY, JR.

PICKENS — William Wilson (Bill) Rainey, Jr., 52, husband of Kathlene Edens Rainey, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Bill, Jr. was born in Charleston, a son of William Wilson Rainey, Sr. and Sue Cole Rainey of Dacusville. He was employed with Bosch in Anderson and he was an independent Baptist. Bill, Jr. served his country proudly in the National Guard, the U.S. Army, and then the U.S. Marines during Desert Storm with 100 hours of combat. He later served in the U.S.M.C. Ready Reserves. He was a member of the American Legion, The U.S. Air Force Association, and The Marine Corps League.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Kathlene Rainey, his parents, sons, Robert and Shawn Rainey both of Pickens, brother, Barry Rainey of Simpsonville, and sister, Sonya Fields of Ft. Inn.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

SARAH HICKEY

PICKENS — Sarah Mae Waldrop Hickey, 76, of 125 Clifford Drive, died Friday at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Pickens, she was the widow of the late Clifford Elmer Hickey and a daughter of the late Robert Leroy and Lillian Alene Brucke Waldrop. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are three daughters, Brenda Gail Rackley of Pickens, Sarah Louise Brower of Anderson, and Glory Faye Torres of Powdersville; three sons, Robert L. Hickey, Aaron Hickey and Dwight Hickey all of Pickens; a sister, Martha Genell Miller of Pickens; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by two sons, Clent and Terry Hickey; and two brothers, T.F. and Marshall Waldrop.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Mrs. Hickey were held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
