JIMMY MCCALL
LIBERTY — Jimmy Donald McCall, 79, of Farmers Hill Road died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 at Greenville Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Liberty, he was the widower of the late Wilma Watson McCall and a son of the late Clinton Marshall and Ossie Gilstrap McCall. He was a self employed farmer and had also worked in the textile industry for many years. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a son, Craig Donald McCall and his wife Brenda of Liberty; a sister, Juanita Cook of Six Mile; and a grandson Chris Donald McCall of Liberty.
In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by a daughter, Debbie McCall; and three brothers, Elmer McCall, Dennis McCall and Gene “Coot” McCall.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. McCall were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Westview Cemetery.

GENEAN VAUGHN
LIBERTY — Genean Michelle Robitaille Vaughn, 44, wife of Stephen Randall Vaughn, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at her residence.
Born in Michigan, to the late Vincent “Pete” and Donna Acuff Robitaille, Genean’s family moved to South Carolina where she graduated from Easley High School. She loved spending time with her family, fishing, her ladies bible study on Fridays, and attending church at Carolina Community Church, where she was a faithful member.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Stephen Vaughn of the home; two daughters, Jessica Farmer of Clemson, and Dawn Ashworth of Easley; a granddaughter, Amy Marie Jones; and two brothers Vincent Robitaille of Greenville, and Tod Robitaille of Pickens.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with the Rev. John Revis and Dr. Nick Ballew officitating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carolina Community Church building fund at 132 West Front Street, Liberty, SC 29657.

REUBENIA PORTER SMITH
EASLEY — Reubenia Porter Smith, 79, of Easley, died on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013.
Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late William Earl and Lizzie Durham Porter. She retired from Robinson Company with 30 years of service and was a member of First Baptist Church, Easley.
She is survived by her husband, Charles W. Smith; a son, Brad W. Smith (Lisa); two grandsons, Matt (Jamie), and Brandon Smith; one great-grandson, Grayson Smith; a sister, Allene Surrett of Easley; two brothers, Troy Porter (Sara) of Central, and Leland Porter (Virginia) of Easley; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by a sister, Catherine Hughes Roberts.
She was blessed to have so many close friends and family who made her last days on earth very joyful.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to her doctors, Dr. Steven Freeman and Dr. John Cox, The Baptist Easley Hospital Staff, Interim Health Care Hospice and two special nurses, Kaylee Kilpatrick and Lucretia Myers, who is also a very special niece.
Funeral services were 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 at First Baptist Church, Easley. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

EASLEY — Betty Sue Porter Stegall, 82, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Cara Bell Kuykendall Porter, Betty was a homemaker and a member of Glenwood Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Dan L. Stegall (Susan) of Easley; two daughters, Shelia A. Stegall of Easley, and Kathy S. Donnald of Fort Mill; one brother, Harold Porter of Easley; one sister, Martha Holcombe of Easley; and two grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

LIBERTY — Theda Correll Lowe, 63, of 120 Surry Drive, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at her residence.
Born in Palmerton, Pa. she was a daughter of the late Kenneth R. and Clara Frantz Correll. She retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs, and was an avid reader and writer. She was a member of Slabtown Baptist Church where she served as the Sunday School Teacher for the Youth Group.
Surviving are her husband, Jerry Lowe of the home; three daughters, Sherry Lowe of Jeffersonville, Ga., Lenora “Lori” Lowe(Robert Taylor) of Seneca, and Renee Teel (David Trowbridge) of Bear Creek, N.C.; two sons, Nathen Lowe(Billie Jo Fink) of Galesville Wisconsin, and Clint Lowe( Debbie) of Anderson; four brothers, Steve Correll, Kevin Correll (Joan), David Correll (Hope) all of Pennsylvania, and Tim Correll (Karen) of Anderson; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, John Correll.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Lowe were conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

CENTRAL — Lloyd Samuel Holder, 76, of 1756 Old Seneca Road and husband of Martha Holliday Holder, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 at his home.
Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Verner Samuel Henderson and Lillie Mae Merck Holder. Lloyd was a retired electrician and was a member of Kings Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Carlis Holder (Carol) of Anderson, Daniel Holder (Rita) of Central and Dan’l Holder (Kerry) of Six Mile; three daughters, Kay Brice (J.B.) of Salem, Judy Owens (Jim) and Darlene Owens (Mark) both of Central; six brothers, Leland Holder, Louis Holder and Luther Holder all of Central, Leonard Holder and L.V. Holder both of Six Mile and Lester Holder of Hendersonville, N.C.; three sisters, Louise Black of Six Mile, Leona Carolyn Dodgens of Liberty and Linda Hancox of Easley; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren on the way.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Leroy Holder; and a sister, Lola Chambers.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

RAY HOWARD BALDWIN
EASLEY — Ray “Howard” Baldwin, 80, of Easley, husband of Martha Yates Baldwin, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at his home.
Born in Oconee County, he was the son of the late William Curtis Baldwin and Sue Ella Nalley Baldwin. Mr. Baldwin was retired from General Electric after 21 years of service. He was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church, the C.W. Lyle Memorial Sunday School Class and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 56 years are three sons, Ronnie Baldwin (Denise) of Easley, Rick Baldwin (Dee) of Pendleton and Russell Baldwin (Shannon) of Liberty; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Baldwin was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister and four brothers.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Lutheran Hospice for the exceptional care of Mr. Baldwin.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

EASLEY — Jerry Elmore Chappell, 71, of 141 Cobb Street, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Greenville he was a son of the late Fred and Ruth Holcombe Chappell. He retired from Elliott Mill, was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church and was attending Wayside Baptist Church. During his retirement he loved to spend time with his only granddaughter.
Surviving are his wife, Martha McAlister Chappell of the home; a daughter, Jeannie Chappell of Liberty; a sister, Fay Hall of Easley; three grandchildren, Haley, Jason, and Jeffrey Mauldin.

PICKENS — Clara Hickey Snider, 93, of 104 Camelia Lane died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.
Born in Morristown, Tenn., she was the widow of the late Raymond Chester Snider and a daughter of the late Hubert and Leola Jenkins Hickey. She was retired from Laurel Hill Nursing Home and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a daughter, Evelyn Kelley of Six Mile; two sons, James Snider of the home and Lonnie Snider of Pickens; a sister, Mary Hannah of Pickens; a brother, L.T. Hickey of Central; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by a brother, Edward Hickey; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mrs. Snider were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roanoke Baptist Church Cemetery.

LUTHER DAVID “L.D.” GALLOWAY
EASLEY — Mr. Luther David “L.D.” Galloway, 86, husband of the late Rev. Beulah Moore Galloway, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at his home.
Born in Oconee County, a son of the late James Flemon and Bessie Nichols Galloway, Mr. Galloway retired from Cosolidated Freightways and was a member of Liberty Church of God of Prophecy. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are a daughter, Laura Scroggs (Bruce) of Pelzer; three sons, Steve Galloway (Linda) and Stanley Galloway (Michelle) all of Easley, and Robbie Galloway (Alison) of Gaffney; three brothers, Bill and Fred Galloway of Pickens, and Ted Galloway of Anderson; two sisters, Lizzie Bearden of Pickens and Sue Simmons of Tennessee; nine grandchildren, Crystal Pridmore, David Galloway, Stephanie G. Holcombe, Brian Galloway, Tosha Galloway, Tyler Scroggs, Austin Galloway, Cameron Galloway and Ava Galloway; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Galloway was predeceased by four brothers, one sister, and a grandson, Christopher Galloway.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

PICKENS — Effie Elizabeth Anderson Porter, age 91, wife of the late Garvin Edward Porter, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at Life Care Center, Columbia. Mrs. Porter was born in Pickens the daughter of the late Joseph Rugless Anderson and Nancy Reece. She was a lifelong member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Porter retired at age 75 after working 35 years for Kentwool, Runnymede Plant. Mrs. Porter wrote the Award Winning Church History, Twin Springs and a Grove of Trees, a history of Mountain Grove Church. Mrs. Porter was known far and wide for her flower gardens and her blueberries. Her garden story was featured in Carolina Gardner magazine. She was an avid embroiderer and quilt maker. Her children and grandchild were her pride and joy. She was a strong woman, from a line of strong women and more than anything she bequeathed that strength to her daughters and granddaughters.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue Porter Heiney and husband, Michael, and Polly Porter-Campbell, and her husband, Michael, two grandchildren, Amanda Heiney Dipietro and her husband Curtis DiPietro and Elizabeth Heiney, and one great grandchild, Sylas Vincent Danger DiPietro.
Mrs. Porter was predeceased by her husband, her parents and one son; Kenneth Nelson, also six brothers.
A celebration of Mrs. Porter’s life and her home going will be held Saturday March, 2 at 3 p.m. at Mountain Grove Baptist Church, 644 E. Preston McDaniel Rd., Pickens, SC 29671. The family will receive friends and family both before and after the service. The family will greet visitors in the church social hall beginning at 1 p.m. where light refreshments will be served. The social hall will again be open from 4 to 6 p.m. where guests are invited to eat a light meal and fellowship with the family. Mrs. Porter was instrumental in obtaining funding from the Alexander Family to help build the fellowship hall. Through the Church History book, Mrs. Porter and Mrs. Hannah were responsible for the building and furnishing of the Church History Room in the Fellowship Hall. The History Room will be open for visitors during these times. Friends and family are encouraged to bring notes of memories of Mrs. Porter. A bulletin board and notecards will be available during the visitation for guests to write memories about Mrs. Porter which will be enjoyed for many years by her family.
Mrs. Porter wanted to be a nurse; her life circumstances prevented her realizing her dream. But she strongly supported both her daughters going to nursing school. Mrs. Porter requested no flowers. Instead, Polly and Sue ask for memorials to be sent either to College of Nursing Carolina Fund, University of South Carolina College of Nursing, 1601 Greene Street Columbia, SC 29208 or College of Nursing, Clemson University, Clemson, SC 29634.

LIBERTY — Floreedy Kinsey Gravley, 91, of Liberty, died peacefully at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
Born in Greenville she was the widow of Charlie Gravley, and a daughter of the late Paul Kinsey and Mamie Campbell Kinsey Sanders. She worked at Sarlin Department Store for 23 years, and later worked at Woodside Mill. She was a long time member of Liberty United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Jean Crawford (Dan) of Liberty; two sons, Tommy Gravley (Mary) of Rock Hill, and Alton Gravley (Janice) of Bessemer City, N.C.; five grandchildren, Danny Crawford, Fred Gravley, Leigh Ann Gravley, Sonia Conners, and Rhone Gravley; seven great grandchildren; an aunt, Jeanette Wilson (Bob).
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Ross and Edith Head.
Funeral services to honor Mrs. Gravley’s life will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Liberty United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, West.

PICKENS — Roy Wallace Ford Bryant, 73, of 267 Riggins Road, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 at his home.
Born in Salem he was the widower of Connie Sue Garren Bryant and a son of the late Fred and Gladys Ellenburg Bryant. He was retired from Ryobi and attended Wayside Baptist Church.
Surviving are a sister, Ovaline Nimmons of Seneca and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services to honor the life of Mr. Bryant will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will greet with friends and relatives following the service.

GARNET A. BARNES
EASLEY — Garnet Andrew Barnes, 88, loving husband of Pauline Burgess Barnes for 67 years, died peacefully at his home on Feb. 25, 2013.
Born in Pickens County March 13, 1924, Mr. Barnes was the son of the late Andrew and Mattie Smith Barnes. A graduate of Easley High School where he was inducted to the Easley Athletic Hall of Fame, he attended Furman University and various real estate and insurance schools. He was also a U.S. Army veteran having served in WWII. He founded Barnes Real Estate, Inc. and Barnes Insurance Agency, Inc. He was also affiliated with Pinnacle Associates and was co-founder of Smithfields Country Club and Golf Club. Because of his love for people and community, Mr. Barnes served on various committees. These include Deacon for First Baptist Church of Easley where he has been a member for 78 years; Trustee of Furman University; member of the Board of Trustees of the Baptist Health Care System for 27 years; founding member of the Palmetto Health Board of Directors; one of the Founders and Director of Peoples National Bank; member of the South Carolina State Development Board; recipient of the Order of the Palmetto; past president of Pickens County Country Club and Smithfields Country Club. For 35 years Mr. Barnes and many special friends enjoyed fly fishing trips together. He and his wife, Polly, also shared many wonderful travels together.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Barnes is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnes was predeceased by brothers, Ray and Carl Barnes, and sisters, Ruby Sloan, Kathleen Estes and Viola Sloan; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, the Rev. William L. and Louise B. Freeman.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Steven Freeman, Blue Ridge Hospice; and caregivers, Jennifer Bright, Traci Saad, Linda Chambers, and Margaret Smith.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 at First Baptist Church of Easley with the Rev. Dr. John Adams and the Rev. Clint Freeman officiating. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Tim Tollison, Joe Lesley, Michael Tollison, Roddey Gettys, Rut Galloway and Patrick Patterson. Honorary Pallbearers include The Roy McCall Sunday School Class, present and past business associates, Joe’s Breakfast Club, Palmetto Health Hospital Board Members, past and present, and People’s Bancorporation Board Members.
Flowers will be accepted; however, memorials may be made to “For Generations to Come Fund” at First Baptist Church of Easley, 300 East First Avenue, Easley, SC 29640.

PICKENS — Charles Scott Gilcrease, 54, husband of the late Donna Faye Sides Gilcrease, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013.
Scott was born in Greenville County, a son of Mildred Snow Gilcrease and the late Charles F. “Chuck” Gilcrease. He was founder, owner and operator of Lawn Beautiful and was a member of Oolenoy Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother of the home, sons, Kendall Gilcrease of Marietta and Pastor Isham Gilcrease of the home, brother, Steven Keith Gilcrease (Jane) of Pickens, grandchildren, Isaiah Cameron Gilcrease, Brady Alexander Gilcrease, Charles Jackson Gilcrease and Grace Madison Williams. Also surviving are nieces, Catherine Kalinovich (Jarrad) of Powdersville and Elizabeth Coreen Gilcrease of Pickens.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at Oolenoy Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
