MARGARET P. DONOFRIO

CENTRAL — Margaret Alice Pazel Donofrio, 88, of Central and widow of William Donofrio died Monday, March 4, 2013 at Capstone Health and Rehab in Easley.

Born in Vandling, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Kleinbauer Pazel.  Margaret was formerly of Randolph, N.J. and moved to Central in 2006.  She was a former payroll clerk and was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving are daughter, Margaret Spangenberg (Gerhard) of Central; sons, William Donofrio (Mary) of Andover, Minn., James Donofrio (Mary Jane) of Cupertino, Calif., and Frank Donofrio of Elizabeth, N.J.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Margaret will be resting next to her husband at Memory Gardens, Clemson.

A memorial service will be held in April in Memory Gardens on a date that will be announced by Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central.

BILLY FOWLER

LIBERTY — William L. “Billy” Fowler, 83, of 9 Willard Street, died Monday at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Liberty, he was the husband of Genevie Wilson Fowler of the home and a son of the late John Roy and Gladys Porter Fowler.  He was retired from Libco Mill and had previously worked at Woodside Mills.  He also owned and operated Bill’s Cabinet Shop and was a former Liberty city councilman.  He was a member of Calumet Baptist Church where he was a member of the Pace Sunday School Class and also served as an usher.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Lynn Fowler of Liberty and Lisa Stone(Matt) of Easley; a son, Randy Fowler(Kaye) of Liberty; a sister, Martha Burgess of Mauldin; a brother, Wayne Fowler(Kathy) of Pickens; a grandson, Kevin Fowler(Kelli) of Liberty; and two great grandchildren, Kason and Kaylee.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Peggy McClanahan and Mary Jo Fowler; and two brothers, Wallace and Donald Fowler.

Funeral services for Mr. Fowler were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Calumet Baptist Church.  Burial was at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

EDNA HARDIN

EASLEY — Edna Ruth Chappell Hardin, 66, died March 6, 2013 at her home in Easley.

Born in Easley, to the late Franklin and Lois Phillips Chappell, Mrs. Hardin attended Easley High School and afterwards, began her career as a private nurse.  She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her granddaughter, enjoying meals with her family, and shopping for new clothes.  She was a member of Tremont Church of God and also attended Redemption World Outreach.

Surviving are a son, Brad Philbeck (Kim Harris); a granddaughter, Brianna Philbeck; and a brother, Terry Chappell, all of Easley.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Gary and Billy Chappell.

A graveside service was 2 p.m. Friday, March 8 in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.

GARY GANTT

EASLEY — Gary Wayne “Lil Man” Gantt, 61, of 104 Waterstone Drive, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013.

A son of Barbara Jameson Gantt of Easley and the late Oscar Charles Gantt, he was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a sister, Beth Robinson and nephew, Casey Robinson, of the home; a brother, Greg (Sharon) Gantt of Liberty; and his loving companion, Janice Knight, who is the mother of daughter, Jade, and son, Charles Gantt, of Norris; and daughters, Cindi, Cassi and Calli; two granddaughters, seven grandsons and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Walter C. Gantt.

A special thanks to Hospice Nurses, Alanna and Angie, Drs. Clardy and O’Roark for their loving care.

Memorial services were 4 p.m. Friday, March 8 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

TUNIS C. SELBY, JR.

BREVARD, NC — Tunis C. Selby, Jr.,85, husband of Patricia Jones Selby, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at his home in Brevard.

Tunis was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, a son of the late Tunis C. and Mary Hood Selby.  He was a graduate of Bowling Green University and attended Ohio State University School of Law.  He received a Masters degree in Human Services from Nova University, West Palm Beach, Fla.  Tunis was retired as Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), where he spent many years helping people recover from chemical dependency.  Tunis was formerly a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Warren, Ohio and attended St. Philip’s Episcopal in Brevard.  He also served his country in the U. S Coast Guard.  Tunis retired in 1978 as owner and operator of Crown Hill Burial Park and Monument Company Vienna, Ohio.  He was an animal lover, especially his two pet dogs, Beau and Ginny.  Tunis was instrumental in forming the Mountain View Group of Alcoholics Anonymous in Brevard, N.C.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia of the home, two sons, Tunis C, Selby, III (Georgeanne) of Florence, Edward C. Selby (Ginger) of Pickens, as well as two daughters, Susan Dunn (Bruce) of Bucyrus, Ohio, Mary Jane Williams (Col. George) of Springfield, Va., and a step-son John Ehrler of Brevard, N.C. Grandchildren include George Selby, Carrie Burr, Philip Williams, Clayton Williams, Megan Willcoxon, Missy Willcoxon,  Molly Armbruster, and four great grandchildren.  Step-grandchildren include, Daniel Fahey, Kathleen Fahey, and Dawn Ehrler.  Also surviving is his sister-in-law and her husband, Donna Resua (Dr. Richard) of Northport, N.Y.

In addition to his parents, Tunis was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia “Ginny” Heyman and his brother, William Selby.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 256 East Main Street, Brevard, NC 28712.

PICKENS — Shirley Jean Reeves Sweeten, 64, of John Street, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013.

Born in Pickens, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Effie Chappell Reeves.  Mrs. Reeves was a homemaker and member of Northside Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband of the home, Carl “Ed” Sweeten; two daughters, Lisa Reeves of Easley and Carla Dunson of Pickens; a son, Braddock G. Cunningham of Greenville; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother, Johnny Reeves of Easley; and seven sisters, Evelyn Trussell and Christine Morgan both of Pickens, Ellen Bryant, Debra Reeves, Stella Lovell and Jewell Galloway all of Easley, and Lucille Burgess of Georgia.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Diane Reeves and two brothers, David and Buddy Reeves.

A memorial service was held Saturday, March 9 at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home.

LISA JEAN CHAPMAN

LIBERTY — Lisa Jean Hawkins Chapman, 50, of 817 Rices Creek Road, died on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Anderson she was a daughter of the late Harold Williams Hawkins and Shelby Jean Crane.  Lisa was a homemaker who spent her time caring for her family and all her nieces and nephews.  They affectionately called her “Nanny” and they will all miss her dearly.

Surviving are her husband, Stanley Tony Chapman of the home; a son, Benjamin James Pilgrim of the home; a sister, Genia Bryant of Liberty; two brothers, Greg Hawkins of Six Mile, and Scott Hawkins of Greenville; several nieces and nephew.

Memorial services to celebrate Lisa’s life were held 3 p.m. Monday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel.  Private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

EASLEY — Mrs. Rachel Marie Donnahoo Phillips, 64, wife of John Michael Phillips, died Saturday, March 9, 2013 at her home.

Born in Greenville County, a daughter of Hazel Rader Donnahoo of Travelers Rest and the late John William Donnahoo, Sr., Mrs. Phillips was owner and operator of The Pet Stop, Easley.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 37 years, and her mother, are a son, James William Phillips and his wife Tonya of Easley; a brother, Joel Clevland Donnahoo of Travelers Rest; and three grandsons, Christopher Michael Phillips, Justin Chandler Phillips, and Brandon Zachary Dyer.

Rachel was an avid Christian lady in the community and her memorial services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 12 in the chapel of First Baptist Church, Easley with the Rev. Dr. John Adams and the Rev. Isaiah Scipio officiating.

ANNIE LEE BARKLEY

LIBERTY — Annie Lee Barkley, 84, of 950 Stewart Gin Road, died peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Easley she was the widow of Thurston Leon Barkley and a daughter of the late Leece and Irene Parrott Tant.  She retired from the Pickens County School District where she worked as a custodian at R.C. Edwards Middle School, and was a member of Praters Creek Baptist Church.  She will be remembered fondly for her love of family and children.

Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Watson (Stan) of Liberty; three sons, Henry Barkley and Tim Barkley (Hope) all of Six Mile, and Larry Barkley of Pickens;  a brother, Howard Tant of Easley; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; a very special cousin, Connie Barkley.

Funeral services to honor Mrs. Barkley’s life were 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel.  Burial was at Praters Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

CHARLES COLEMAN

LIBERTY — Charles Bernard Coleman, 74, of 10 Pinewood Drive, died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at his residence.

Born in Greenville he was a son of the late Ernest Bernard and Clara Wells Coleman.

Charles was a graduate of Parker High School and later attended Clemson University on a football scholarship.  He was the owner/operator of Coleman Enterprises, and during his free time he loved to do oil paintings.

Surviving are his wife, Rachel Gillespie Coleman of the home; two sons and daughters in law, Greg and Cindy Coleman of Easley, and Matthew and Jane Coleman of Tennessee;  two grandchildren, Dustin Coleman (Lauren) of South Bend, Ind., and Amanda Davis (Mark) of Anderson; one great granddaughter, Emma Davis.

EASLEY — Philip Walter Hall, 55, of 177 Rackley Mill Road, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Greenville County, a son of Jessie Mull Hall of Dacusville and the late Fred Andrew Hall, Mr. Hall was a machinist and a member of Nine Forks Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a son, Ben and Becky Hall of Dacusville; two daughters, Lisa and Charles Crumpton of Easley and Amy Hall and fiancè, Nathan Hansen of Dacusville; a brother, Rick Hall of Dacusville; two sisters, Sandra and Mike Bishop of Dacusville and Vickie and Dr. Eric Troyer of China Grove, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Dylan, Sam and Dani Hall and Kahle Crumpton.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Nine Forks Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

JEWELL LAYMAN

LIBERTY — Jewell Kelley Layman, 73, of 620 Hunter Mill Road, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Greenville she was a daughter of the late George R. and Ethel Hicks Kelley.

She retired from Danfoss in Easley and was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.  During her retirement she volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem in Pickens County.

Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Billy Allen Layman, Sr. of the home; a daughter, Debra Brooks (Mark) of Liberty; a son, Billy “Allen” Layman, Jr. of Liberty; three sisters, Shirley Spraque (Earl), Ethelene Tollison, and Janice Sullivan (Allen); four grandchildren, Kyle Layman, Nick Layman, Benjamin Brooks (Nancy), and Zachary Brooks; a great grandson, Colt Brooks.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Scott Layman, a grandson, Jonathon Levi Brooks, and two sisters, Eva Walker and Joan Tollison.

EASLEY — Jesse Franklin “Frankie” Dalton, I, 58, husband of Ellen Withrow Dalton, died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.

Born in West Virginia, to the late Frank James and Mabel Louise Crookshank Dalton, Jesse was a hard working man who spent most of his life in the construction business.  He loved being around family and friends, joking, and having fun any chance he got.  Jesse was of the Baptist faith and attended Geer Memorial Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Jesse F. Dalton, II (Melissa) of Pickens; two daughters, Heather Alley of Pickens, and Katie Dalton of the home; five grandchildren, Johnny Ray Collier, II, Kenneth Franklin Collier, Madison Cheyenne Alley, Braylin Nathaniel White and Carolyn Jade Dalton; two sisters, Brenda Riddle (Melvin), and Kathy Galloway (Rick); 27 seven nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Edward Dalton; and four sisters, Wilda Stout, Barbara Shirley, Lena Maggard, and Linda Glasscock.

Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 13 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with the Rev. Phillip McAllister officiating.

A visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Edward N. Greene

Richmond, Va. — Edward Norman “Eddie” Greene, 64, of Robindale Road, Richmond, VA, died Saturday, March 9, 2013 in Richmond, Va.

Born in Oak Ridge, Tenn., he was the son of the late James Edward Greene and Harriett “Laverne” Porter.

Mr. Greene was employed with Alliance Engineering, Inc. in Richmond, Va. He was a member of Greenlaw Baptist Church in Memphis, TN and was a US Army Veteran.

Surviving are his wife of the home, Sheila Trotter Greene; a daughter, Heather Renee Greene; two sons, Caleb Edward Greene and William Elijah Greene; his step mother, Doris “Ann” Greene; two sisters, Cheryl G. Hawkins and Janey Greene; and three brothers, Daniel Billingsley, Frank Billingsley and Theodore “Teddy” Greene.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandparents, William Theodore and Mae Looper Greene and the Rev. Clarence and Pauline Johnson Porter; and a brother, David Wilkins.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 16 at 3 p.m. at Mt. View Baptist Church in Six Mile, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the church.
