Pearl M. Garrett

Easley — Pearl McFadden Garrett, 93, of Easley, wife of the late Wesley R. Garrett, died Tuesday, March 12, 2103 at Hospice of the Upstate.

Born on Sept. 17, 1919 in Buchanan County, Va., Mrs. Garrett was the youngest daughter of the late John and Arminda McFadden.  The family moved to Pickens County in 1928, and on Nov. 9, 1941 she married the late Wesley R. Garrett of Six Mile.  Mrs. Garrett retired from the Arial Plant of Alice Manufacturing Company after many years of service.  She was a faithful member of Arial United Methodist Church where she belonged to the Donald Houston Sunday School Class.  Her Sunday School Class will serve as honorary escorts.

Survivors include her sister, Ada M. Chapman of Greenville, two nephews, David Larry McFadden of Easley and L. Jerry Chapman of Greenville; and a niece, Sue Powers of Joppa, Md.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Garrett was predeceased by two brothers, John McFadden and Dave McFadden; and by three sisters, Ruth Deel, Martha Deel and Eve McFadden.

Funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with the Rev. Roger M. Gwinn officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Woodrow Tinsley

Easley — Woodrow Wilson Tinsley, 95, husband of the late Evelyn Aline Burrell Tinsley, died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at his home.

Born in Pickens County to the late Willie and Helen Tarrant Tinsley, Woodrow was a member of Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy.

Surviving are three sons, Woody Tinsley, Jr. (Dana), Bobby Joe Tinsley (Faith), and Willie Hugh Tinsley (Judy); a daughter, Wanda Dresser (Roger); a brother, Henry Tinsley; three sisters, Louise Ward, Estelle Jenkins and Betty Huffman; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Ethel Wardlaw Tinsley, a son Wayne Tinsley, three brothers and by four sisters.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Sunday at Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery, West.

Genetha R. McNeely

Pickens — Genetha Revis McNeely, 89, widow of Olin B. McNeely, died on Friday, March 14, 2013.

Mrs. McNeely was born in Anderson County, a daughter of the late William Norman and Greta Hendricks Revis.  She was retired from Mayfair Mills, Pickens Plant, and was a member of East Pickens Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Olin R. “Ron” McNeely (Carolyn) of Greenville, and her daughter, Janet Hayes of Easley, grandchildren, Brent McNeely, Tammy Hayes Robinson, and Scott Hayes, 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Also surviving is a brother, Bill Revis of Denver, N.C. and a sister, Hallie Munday of Sherrills Ford, N.C.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. McNeely was preceded in death by her son-in-law Jesse Daniel Hayes, brothers, Odrew Revis, Larel Revis, and Harbin Revis, a sister, Rachel Massey.

Funeral services were 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 17 at Dillard Funeral Home in the chapel.

Johnnie Lail

Easley — Johnnie Norman Lail, 62, of 403 Highland Circle, died Friday, March 15, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Rosman, N.C., a son of the late Joe Avery and Ethel Moore Lail, Mr. Lail retired from Palmetto Finishing of Easley.

Surviving are his wife Dorothy Woodring Lail of the home; a  son, Michael Edwards of Pickens; three daughters, Barbara Perry (Benji) of Pickens, Shannon Owen (Brad), and Crystal Lail, all of Easley; a brother, Charles Lail of Pickens; three sisters, Betty Perry of Pickens, Annie Luker of Cashiers, N.C. and Helen Thomas of Dacusville; four grandchildren, Ashley Frazier, Tim Edwards, Alicia Perry and Eli Owen; and one great-granddaughter, Jada Frazier.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Lail was predeceased by a brother, Joe Lail and by a sister, Pearl Bowie.

Funeral services were 4 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.  Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Mildred Jones

Easley — Mildred Williams Jones, 70, of Easley, died Friday, March 15, 2013 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Hansel and Ruth Elgin Williams.  Mildred retired as a lunchroom supervisor from Crosswell Elementary School and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Tina Long and Husband, Stephen, of Anderson, and Tammy Gilreath and husband (Dewayne), of Easley; brothers, Boyce Williams (Debbie) of Easley and James Williams of Easley; sisters, Judy Owens (Dicky) of Cross Hill, and Drucilla Hall of Piedmont; grandchildren, Japheth Gilreath, Breanna Long, Nathan Gilreath, Joseph Long, Samuel Gilreath and great-granddaughter, Skylyn Gilreath.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry Eugene “Gene” Jones and by a sister, Betty Williams.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 19 at Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. David Gallamore officiating.  Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Gene Jones

Easley — Henry Eugene “Gene” Jones, 68 of Easley, died Friday, March 15, 2013 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Rev. Henry T and Lila Bell Rampey Jones.  Gene was a retired maintenance supervisor at Albany International and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.  He was a Mason and a Shriner.

Surviving are two daughters, Tina Long and husband, Stephen, of Anderson, and Tammy Gilreath and husband, Dewayne, of Easley; brothers, Doug Jones (Michelle) of Slab Town and Thomas Jones (Vivian) of Liberty; sisters, Diane McCoy of Johns Island, Joyce Allen (Preston) of Easley; and Cindy Childress (Phil) of Easley; grandchildren, Japheth Gilreath, Breanna Long, Nathan Gilreath, Joseph Long, Samuel Gilreath and great-granddaughter, Skylyn Gilreath.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Williams Jones, and by a sister, Georgia Phillips

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 19 at Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. David Gallamore officiating.  Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Travis Allison

Dacusville — Travis Lamar Allison, 68, of 522 Little Pond Road, died Sunday, March 17, 2013.

Born in Greenville, he was the husband of Bonnie O’Shields Allison of the home, and a son of the late B.C. Gilstrap and the late Ernest and Christine Carson Allison Looper.  He was a member of Blue Ridge View Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Nancy Aiken (Brian) of Easley; two sons, Larry Allison (Stacey) of Pickens and Terry Allison (Tracey) of Easley; three step daughters, Donna Albright (Joe) of Powdersville, Anita Finley (the Late David Finley) of Easley and Debbie Hayes (Tony) of Hoschton, Ga.; a step son, Danny Carter of the home; two half brothers, Samuel Allison of Pickens and Bobby Gilstrap of Rocky Bottom; eight grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.

Alice B. Dolby

Columbus, Ohio — Alice B. Dolby, age 99, of Columbus, Ohio. March 11, 2013.

Born in Shapleigh, Maine and graduated from Thornton Academy, Saco, Maine, class of 1934.  Member of Order of Eastern Star.  Lived in Santiago, Chile (1937-1945), Maine (1945-1960) and Easley (1960-2012).  Survived by her daughters, Carol (Robert) Norwood of Polk City, Fla. and Naomi (Bill) Jipping of Columbus, Ohio; grandchilden, Amanda (Matthew) Whitacre, Michael (Chelsea) Jipping, Debbie (Tom) Hirn, Tammy (Rick) Davis, Timmy Norwood and Becky (Dean) Kier; six great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Gagner and Lillian Dunngans; nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, Howard M. Dolby, daughter, Donna Dolby and 13 brothers and sisters.

Roma Lee McDonald Bye

San Francisco, Calif. — Roma Lee McDonald Bye, 66, of North Beach, San Francisco, Calif. died Wednesday, March 6, after a brief illness.

She was the daughter of the late Blanche and Ralph McDonald of Easley.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years Mr. Roger John Bye of San Francisco, Calif. her sister Phalba M. Jeanes (Robert) of Easley, and two nieces, Jennifer McAllister (Mike) of Easley and Le Anne White (Sam) of Greenville.

Neptune Society of Northern California, San Francisco, Calif. is assisting the Bye family.

Patsy P. Jewell

Easley — Patsy Ann Parrish Jewell, 83, of Easley died March 13, 2013.

Patsy was born May 29, 1929 to the late Lila Antoinette Ellison Parrish and Fielding Hemphill Parrish.  Patsy was a long-standing, faithful member of Powdersville Baptist Church.  She served the upstate of SC for nearly 30 years as administrator of various nursing care facilities.  Patsy and Sam were a constant support of the Pickens County Board of Disabilities with one of the homes named in their honor, The Jewell House.

Left to cherish her memory are children, Mike (Meg), Becky Ledford (Ken), Rusty (Melissa) and her beloved Sandy; grandchildren, Nicholas and Anna Jewell, Kenneth Ledford, Amanda Fehr (Carl); great-grandchildren, Carl and Will, and her dear sister, Sally Baker.

She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Oscar Jewell, brother-in-law, John Baker and grandson Derek Samuel Ledford of Greenville.

A celebration of Patsy’s life was Saturday, March 16 at 12 p.m. in the Chapel of the Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

Dorothy Hudson

Liberty — Dorothy Evelyn Southerland Hudson, 80, wife of the late Luther F. Hudson, died on Tuesday, March 12, 2013.

Dorothy was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Elighue and Annie R. Lewis Southerland.  She was retired from the textile industry and she was a member of Wren Church of God.

Survivors include daughters, Vickie Marlar, Ann Pettit (Sam), and a son Tony Hudson (Lynda) of Liberty, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Jerry Southerland of Wade, N.C., Alvin Southerland of Pickens, and Brandon Southerland of Greenville, and sisters, Leota Moore of Easley, Lila Blakley of Pickens, Hazel Autry of Piedmont, Barbara Yount of Pickens, and Thelma Collinsworth of Century, Fla.

In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Marlar, brothers, Johnny Southerland, Gary Southerland, and Calvin Southerland and a sister, Annie Carlton.

The funeral services were 4 p.m. Friday at Dillard Funeral Home in the chapel.  Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Hazel Lesley Sargent

Liberty — Hazel Lesley Sargent, 95, died March 14, 2013 at Countryside Village in Easley.

Hazel was lifelong resident of Liberty.  She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Effie Lesley.  She was a retiree of Woodside Mills, Liberty Plant. She retired after 50 years of service.  She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.  She was an active member of the Golden Gems until she moved into Countryside Park.  She loved reading the Bible, desserts and solving word puzzles.

Hazel is survived by her son, David L. Sargent and his wife Pamela of Edgewater, Md.
Funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 17 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.  Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

Easley — Beryl Elliott “BeBe” Watson, 87, the English war bride of the late W. Horace Watson, and a J.P. Stevens retiree died Tuesday, March 12, 2013.

BeBe is survived by daughters, Beverley G. Patterson and her husband Mike, and Donna M. Hopkins and her husband Jim; grandsons, Bradley M. Patterson and his wife Angela, and J.D. Hopkins, Jr.; one granddaughter, Alexis E. Hopkins; and great-granddaughters, Allyson F. and Brooklyn M. Patterson.

A memorial service was 4 p.m. Saturday, March 16 at St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Grace Mills

Easley — Grace Pulcine Mills, 77, wife of the late Merrill Duane Mills, died March 13, 2013 at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Pennsylvania, Mrs. Mills was a daughter of the late John and Mildred McGinnis Pulcine, Grace was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.  Mrs. Mills was a strong woman that celebrated life to its fullest, loved experiencing adventures especially the ones she was told were out of her reach.  She LIVED.

Surviving are a son, Larry (Laurie) Mills of Port Richie, Fla.; four daughters, Debra (Rock) Haas of White Lake, Mich., Teresa (Adam) Luciano of Altoona, Pa., Kathleen (Robb) McNuer of Easley, and Christin Mills of Janesville, Wis.; three brothers, Ronnie, Charles, and Robert Pulcine; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Mills was predeceased by a son, Merrill Duane Mills Jr.
