ROBERT EDWARD RAINES

PICKENS — Mr. Robert Edward Raines, 69, loving husband of the late Cathey Smith Raines, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021, at St. Francis Hospital in downtown Greenville.

Robert was born in Easley on Aug. 9, 1951, to the late Marcus and Fannie Raines. He loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren, and was always willing to help anyone in need. Robert was a former football coach for the Pickens Recreation Department for more than 30 years. He was a former drag racer, earning numerous victories and championships throughout South Carolina and Georgia, and he earned the name “Doc Rob” for his career in racing. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam. Robert was a longtime member of United Wesleyan Church, where he sang and played guitar.

Robert is survived by his three children, Steve Raines (Tara) of Pickens, Barry Raines (Michelle) of Pickens and Tina Hawkins (John) of Williamston; his nine grandchildren, Robert Raines, Kayla Raines, Amber Raines, Kohl Raines, Daniel Soto, Cheyenne Davis, David Davis, Katelen Hawkins and Adriann Hawkins; a great-granddaughter, Desmona; and four brothers and sisters, Geraldine, Ruby, Kenny and Helen.

In addition to his loving wife and parents, Robert was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters, David, Frank, John and Bertie.

Funeral services were conducted on May 21 at United Wesleyan Church, with interment following at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

DORIS DILLS

LIBERTY — Doris Ann Galbreath Dills, 73, of Sanders Road, died on Sunday, May 23, 2021, at her residence.

Born in Liberty, she was the wife of John Henry Dills and a daughter of the late James Bruce and Ella Wease Black Galbreath. Mrs. Dills enjoyed the outdoors, flower gardening and going to the lake. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was retired from Alice Manufacturing and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 23 years, is her daughter, Susan Lewis (Jack), of Pickens; a stepson, Chris Dills (Sandy) of Travelers Rest; a sister, Jeanette Wood of Easley: a brother, Dan Galbreath of Liberty; two grandchildren, Chris Hooper (Leandra) and Cody Hooper (Ann), both of Pickens; and two great-grandchildren, Lyla and Emmy Hooper.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Galbreath.

The family received friends on May 25.

MICHAEL LEE THOMASON

EASLEY — Michael “Mikie” Lee Thomason, 44, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.

Born in Rabun County, Ga., a son of Donna Smith Thomason of Mauldin and the late Milton Preston Thomason, Mr. Thomason was a self-employed welder and of the Baptist faith.

Mikie loved riding his Harley-Davidson, tattooing and drawing, but his greatest passion was his music. He will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, is the mother of his children, Lindsey Thomason of Westminster; his son, Zakk Thomason of Westminster; his two daughters, Lexie Thomason and Breeze Thomason, both of Westminster; his brother, Mick Thomason (Andrea) of Simpsonville; his two sisters, Rebecca Thomason (Lori) of Pickens and Dodie Cothran (Mike) of Easley; and his best friend, Greg Gant.

Funeral services were held on May 23 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, Downtown. Burial  followed in the Smith Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

MICHAEL ‘MIKE’ MOORE

CENTRAL — Michael Glen “Mike” Moore, 62, of Maw Bridge Road, died on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at his residence.

Born in Easley, he was the husband of Crystal Smith Moore of the home and a son of the late Charlie Moore. Mike loved the outdoors, especially going to the mountains or the lake and fishing. He was an avid Clemson and Daniel football fan. He had previously worked at Greenwood Mills in Liberty. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Camp Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Krissy Wolf (Billy) and Somer Vaughn (Cody), both of Six Mile; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Smith-Rowland (Chris Morris) of Walhalla; a stepson, Aaron Pruitt of Six Mile; a brother, Tim Moore, of Six Mile; three nephews, Charlie and Ethan Moore and Cory Martin; and 10 grandchildren, Natilee, Hailie, Nolan, Kohlten, Kali, Skylur, Collin, Brinley, Ava and Mason.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his stepson, Michael Pruitt.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Moore were held at Camp Creek Baptist Church on May 21. Burial was held at the Welcome Baptist Church cemetery.

JOANN C. MILLER

EASLEY — JoAnn C. Miller, 80, wife of Gerold C. Miller, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021, at her home.

Mrs. Miller was the daughter of the late Lilly Dodgens Crowe and Rev. William John Crowe. She was a member of Potter’s Clay Fellowship. Mrs. Miller loved her family and grandchildren very much and was loved by so many people.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years; one daughter, Tammy Miller Morris White (David) of Sunset; one son, Bradley Gerold Miller (Edith) of Easley; four grandchildren, Heather Ann Morris (Chad), Charley Miller, Evin Miller and D. J. Miller; and one niece, Lynn Crowe Gerlach of Liberty.

Visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, at Potter’s Clay Fellowship, with funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson.

Mrs. Miller was predeceased by her parents and one brother, William Lloyd Crowe.

Memorials may be made to Potter’s Clay Fellowship, 142 Grace Drive, Easley SC 29640.

The family will be at the home.

JAMES CLEO MILLER JR.

 

SENECA — James Cleo Miller Jr., 76, beloved husband of Yvonne Holliday Miller, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 17, 1944, in Orangeburg to the late James Cleo and Dorothy Louise Judy Miller.

Dr. Miller earned a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from Clemson University. He also served in the Army, with a one-year tour in Vietnam, and was a Bronze Star Medal recipient. Dr. Miller was an assistant dean for Clemson Extension personnel at Clemson University. He was a proud member of Trinity Baptist Church in Seneca, where he served the Lord by holding many different positions over the years.

In addition to his loving wife, Yvonne, he is survived by a daughter, Robyn Miller Jordan (Jason); sons, Douglas Campbell (Janice) and Stephen Campbell (Angie); grandsons, Brian Campbell (Lindsay), Tyler Campbell, Zachary Campbell (Abby) and Jacob Campbell (Jordan); granddaughter, Kristen Campbell Lee (Kyu); and great-grandsons, Isaiah and Elijah Neal.

Dr. Miller was predeceased by his parents, as well as a daughter, Lisa Campbell.

A funeral service was held on May 22.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to Trinity Baptist Church or the Hospice of the Foothills.

 

JOYCE ANN NORRIS

SENECA — Joyce Ann Norris was born on September 1, 1943, in Bridgeton, N.J. She was the eldest of six children born to the union of the late Leon and Elvira (Winrow) Harris. She peacefully passed away at Cottingham House Hospice in Seneca on Saturday, May 15, 2021.

In 1960, she graduated from Woodstown High School in Woodstown, N.J. On Sept. 12, 1964, she was baptized, symbolizing her dedication to Jehovah God as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Joyce was united in marriage to Charles Norris of Delaware in Glassboro, N.J., on Sept. 6, 1969. They shared their union for over 51 years. While in the Glassboro, N.J., congregation in 1972, they received an assignment from the headquarters of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society to serve where the need was greater in Walhalla. As they were able, they volunteered in the full-time ministry as regular pioneers, and they assisted many with coming to know Jehovah God through his Word, the Bible. After they relocated to Walhalla, they remained in their assignment for almost 50 years.

Charles and Joyce began their business, At Your Service Carpet Cleaning, servicing the Walhalla area for decades. Joyce was later employed as a manager at H&R Block for many years, always enjoying working with numbers. Joyce was the epitome of being a social butterfly. She enjoyed talking with anyone she came into contact with, cooking fine meals, reading, sewing and crocheting.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Elvira (Winrow) Harris; and her brothers, Leon Harris (Louise), Leonard Harris, Marshall Harris (Carla) and Douglas Harris.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Charles Norris, of Inman; her brother, Dennis Harris (Geraldine) and sister-in-law, Carla Harris (Marshall) of Florence; sister-in-law, Louise Harris (Leon) of Beverly Hills, Fla.; dear friends of many years, Candy Henderson, Avemaria Ligon, the Leggett family and Jane Nuckles; spiritual son, Rocky Marina; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

 

SARAH JEAN CRUNKLETON

SALEM — Sarah Jean Crunkleton, 58, of Salem, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021, at Cottingham Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the daughter of Carl T. Baty and the late Rebecca Medina Baty.

Mrs. Crunkleton is survived by her father, Carl T. Baty; daughter, Rebecca Crunkleton; son, Adam Crunkleton; brothers, Ronnie, Tony and Carl Baty; and grandchildren, Alayna Ables, Christian Sanders and Maggie Crunkleton.

In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert “Bud” Crunkleton, and a granddaughter, EmmaLee Grace Ables.

Services will be held at a later date.

 

THOMAS FREDERICK PATTON

 

SENECA — Thomas Frederick Patton, 82, husband of Verlia Patton of Westminster, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.

He was the son of the late Fred and Emma Taylor Patton.

Mr. Patton was a proud U.S. Navy veteran.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Sue Patton, Michelle Patton and Julie Wilcoxson; stepdaughters, Krissy Bruce, Christine Harbina and Kelley Morris; sons, Rusty Patton, Brian Patton, Scott Patton and Mike Patton; sister, Jane Hartill; and brother, James Patton.

Mr. Patton was predeceased by his parents, a stepson, Lee Breedlove, and grandchildren, Destiny and Nathan Compton.

Services will be held at a later date.
