SHIRLEY ADAMS ABERCROMBIE

PICKENS — Mrs. Shirley Adams Abercrombie, 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 6, 2021.

Mrs. Abercrombie was born in Pickens County and was the daughter of the late Cecil C. Adams and Viola Willimon Gantt, stepdaughter to the late Woodrow Gantt and wife for 66 years to Charles W. Abercrombie.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Chuck Abercrombie (Jeannie) of Pickens; daughter, Scarlot Abercrombie Hawkins of Pickens; three loving grandchildren, Travis Allen Cassell (Tori) and Zachary and Stephanie Abercrombie; and great-grandchildren, Anslie and Carter Abercrombie. Mrs. Abercrombie has one surviving sister, Gloria Faye Gantt Wolfe of Pickens, and a number of nieces and nephews who loved and adored Mrs. Abercrombie.

Mrs. Abercrombie was predeceased by a brother, Charles W. Adams; and sisters, LaJune A. Willhite and Patricia A. Gibson.

Mrs. Abercrombie was a very detailed woman. She was always ready to face up to any challenge, but it had to be perfected. She was a graduate of business college, earning an associate degree. She was known for doing whatever she set her mind to, whether it was making her gown for the 1968 Bicentennial Pageant, for which she was named Queen, making clothes for her children or knitting for her nieces. She paid attention to the details, and that came in handy when she set out to build an addition in her home or when she wrote lyrics for her own songs. She had many, many talents, including advising her husband, Charles, what to do with the details. She even enjoyed her hunting trips with family. Mrs. Abercrombie was loved by all and will be missed dearly by her family.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 9, at 3 p.m. at the Dillard Funeral Home chapel with a visitation that same day starting at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Martin Grove Wesleyan Church at 472 Windmont Road, Pickens, SC 29671.

ELOWISE E. BRYANT

EASLEY — Elowise Elrod Bryant, 83, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.

Born in Stephens County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Garnett and Grace Ivester Elrod.

Mrs. Bryant was a former employee of The Dream Center and was a member of Enon Baptist Church. She enjoyed collecting antiques and working in her flower garden.

Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Kenneth Bryant; children, Jane Seawright (Roy) of Dacusville, Joy Bell of Easley, Joe Wilson (Cheryl) of Easley and Ashley Cox (John) of Easley; stepsons, Randall Bryant of Greer and Keith Bryant (Mary) of Easley; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Darrell Wilson.

A funeral service was held on June 4 at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. A private burial was held at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

JUDY HOWARD

LIBERTY — Judy Lynn Howard, 67, of Liberty, died on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at her home.

Born in Sioux City, Iowa, she was a daughter of Carolyn Jean Cook and the late Lavern Pangborn.

Worshiping at the feet of her Savior is the place Judy most wanted to be, and she will spend her eternity in His presence.

Judy loved her family well and prayed for them daily. She raised six children with their dad, Eddie: Sara (Tim), Joshua (Kelly), Sonia, Rebecca (David), Phillip and Elisabeth. Her legacy includes 13 grandchildren, Kaeleigh (Gray), Sonia, Avery, Jakob, Madelyn, Nate, Caroline, Kaden, Adelaide, Tyler, Abram, Isabel and Jameson. She also leaves behind her mother, Carolyn; and siblings Terri, Scott, Kim, Jennifer, Christi and Robin; along with their children and grandchildren.

Her father “Sonny,” as well as her children, grandchildren and loved ones who preceded her in death rejoice with her today in the streets of Heaven.

Per her wishes, no services will be held.

JERRY EDDIE LESLIE

EASLEY — Mr. Jerry Eddie Leslie, 61, husband of Paula Porter Leslie, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021, at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Jerry was born in Greenville County on July 6, 1959, to Mary Ann Stegall Leslie of Easley and the late Guy E. Leslie. He was a proud 1978 graduate of Easley High School and during his school days, drove the school bus and received the bus driver of the year award. Jerry loved trees and built a connection with the outdoor world and everything in it. He enjoyed his life as a farmer, and in true farmer fashion, loved his Farmall Tractors. Being the avid farmer and outdoorsman, he had a love for all animals and the color green, but was especially fond of his “fur baby,” Butterscotch.

In addition to his loving wife Paula, Jerry is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Stegall Leslie of Easley.

In addition to his father, Jerry was preceded in death by two brothers, Perry and Terry Leslie; and his paternal grandmother, Addie Leslie, who was especially near and dear to him.

No formal services are being planned at this time. If services are planned at a later date, they will be announced via the Dillard Funeral Home website.

In lieu of flowers and because of Jerry’s love for animals, Paula requests that memorial donations be made to the Pickens County Humane Society at pchumanesociety.org.

JOAN RUTLEDGE

PICKENS — Joan Moseley Rutledge, 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at the Cottingham Hospice House.

Born in Pickens, she was the widow of Thomas Thompson Rutledge and a daughter of the late L.J. and Bernice Galloway Moseley.

Mrs. Rutledge was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and was the proprietor of The Wood House at Aunt Sue’s Country Corner.

Surviving are a son, John Thomas Rutledge and his wife Amy of Bonneau; a sister, Nathalee Bryant of Liberty; a brother, Jim Moseley of Six Mile; two grandchildren, Sean Rutledge and Ashley Rutledge; two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Imani; and special friends, Rev. Doyle and Julia Barker.

Graveside services were conducted on June 5 at Hillcrest Memorial Park. No formal visitation is planned.

MYRTLE LOU HUDSON FOWLER

EASLEY — Mrs. Myrtle Lou Hudson Fowler, 83, loving wife of the late Leroy Claude Fowler, passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021, at Prisma Health Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

Mrs. Fowler was born on March 30, 1938, to the late Luther and Dora Crenshaw Hudson. She worked in quality control for Bausch and Lomb and was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Greenville. Mrs. Fowler loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Fowler is survived by a son, Timothy Fowler of Piedmont; two grandchildren, Katelyn Fowler of Greenville and Brandon Fowler of Piedmont; and seven siblings, Virginia Spearman, Winnie Lee Bell, Beatrice Adcox, Patricia Clark, Judy Groover, Ray Hudson and Larry Hudson.

In addition to her loving husband and parents, Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by a brother, Junior Hudson.

Funeral services were conducted on June 4 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home, with interment following at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

ANNA GAIL RUMSEY CHAPPELL

PICKENS — Mrs. Anna Gail Rumsey Chappell, 66, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 30, 2021.

Mrs. Chappell was born in Greenville County and was the daughter of the late Floyd Rumsey and Geneva Brown Rumsey and beloved wife to David Chappell.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years and two daughters, Anna Davis (Pete) of Pickens and Detra Fipps (David) of Rochester, Minn. Also surviving are one grandchild, Nathaniel Davis of Pickens; and a sister, Barbara Harris of Old Fort, N.C.

Mrs. Chappell was predeceased by three brothers, Billy, Gary and Perry Rumsey.

Mrs. Chappell loved the Christmas season and spent her year in preparation to make it extra special. She baked, crafted and made gifts just to make the time with family memorable. Baking was her favorite, and she had many popular family cake recipes, including her apple cake. She also enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking and attending auctions throughout the year.

A graveside service was held at Holly Springs Baptist Church on June 3. The Rev. Justin Anderson officiated.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the “Make a Wish Foundation” at wish.org.
