JOYCE R. SUMMERALL

EASLEY — Mrs. Joyce Robinson Summerall, 73, wife of the late Billy Joe Summerall, Sr., died Sunday, March 24, 2013 at her home.

Born in Pickens County, the daughter of the late Clifton William and Addie Mae Garrett Robinson, Mrs. Summerall was a retired Accountant and of the Pentecostal faith.

Surviving are a son, Billy Joe Summerall, Jr., of Easley; two daughters, Cynthia Thomason (Jeff) of Liberty, and Teresa M. Clark (Bob) of Easley; three brothers, Leroy F. Robinson (June), the Rev. Gerald W. Robinson (Carleen), and Anthony Robinson (Lena); 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were 4 p.m. Thursday, March 28 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

JIM BRUMMITT

 

EASLEY — James C. “Jim” Brummitt, 76, of 109 Lennox Lane, died Monday at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Knoxville, Tenn., he was the widower of the late Charolette Smalling Brummitt and the son of the late James C. and Roberta Schropshire Brummitt. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked in law enforcement for his entire career and was retired from SLED. He was a member of The Fraternal Order of Police, The American Legion Post #11, The Naval Fleet Reserve and Liberty Masonic Lodge #235 AFM. He was also a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church.

Surviving are his fiancé, Barbara N. Collins of the home; two sons, Jimmy Brummitt and his wife Donna of Easley and Michael Brummitt of Liberty; two grandchildren, Shane Brummitt and Ashley Holcombe; and four great grandchildren, Deyton, Emily and Carter Brummit and Christopher Holcombe.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Roberta Denise Brummitt.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Brummitt were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. Burial with military honors were at Westview Cemetery in Liberty following the service.

JACK HAMILTON

EASLEY — Jack Martin Hamilton, 75, of 612 Rampey Street, died Tuesday at his residence.

Born in Easley, he was the husband of Margaret Gilstrap Hamilton of the home and a son of the late James Robert and Maxie Martin Hamilton. He was retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation as an associate engineer and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Bates Masonic Lodge # 189 AFM and was of the Christian faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a sister, Mary Ann Hamilton Culbertson of Easley; two brothers, Paul Hamilton of Easley and James Hamilton of Virginia Beach, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Bill Hamilton.

Graveside services for Mr. Hamilton were held at 3 p.m. Friday at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Gerald Roper conducted the service. No visitation is planned.

JOHNNY WATSON

LIBERTY — Johnny Lynn Watson, 69, of Liberty, died on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Liberty he was a son of the late Olin Ernest and Mary Patterson Watson. He retired from Duke Energy, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Easley.

Surviving are a sister, Beth Miller and her husband Bob, of Easley; two brothers, Larry Joe Watson, and Pat Watson and his wife Sharon, all of Liberty; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Jon L. Watson.

Graveside services to honor Johnny’s life were 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

NINA LEWIS

PICKENS — Miss Nina Lewis, 87, of Pickens, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013.

Miss Lewis was born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Samuel Clayton and Alpha Clardy Lewis. She was a homemaker and a member of East Pickens Baptist Church. For many years, Miss Lewis was a caregiver for children in her home.

Survivors include her brother, Emphs Lewis (Hazel) of Pickens and a number of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her parents, Miss Lewis was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Lewis and sisters, Sada Ulstad, and Hazel Holder.

A graveside service was held 2 p.m. Friday, March 29 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

LIBERTY — Kathy McClain, 55, of 346 Bradley Drive, died on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville.

Born in Greenville she was a daughter of Harold and Edna Howard Turner. She was a longtime member of Wren Church of God, and she loved to spend time with her family camping.

Surviving in addition to her parents of Easley are her husband of 36 years, Harold T. McClain of the home; two sons, Thomas McClain of Liberty, and Talmadge McClain and his wife Jennifer of Liberty; two sisters, Sheila Moore of Pelzer, and Katrina Owens of Easley; two brothers, Jimmy and Jamie Turner, both of Easley; three beloved grandchildren, Michael, Kirsten, and Ethan McClain.

Funeral services to honor Kathy’s life were 3 p.m. Saturday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

HAROLD CADDELL

 

EASLEY — Harold George Caddell, 85, of 165 McGaha Road, died Friday, March 29, 2013.

Born in Baltimore, MD he was the widower of Ruby Lee Parsons Caddell, and a son of the late George Melton and Mae Tanner Caddell. He was retired from General Electric and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Second World War where he was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was a longtime member of Mile Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Clontz and her husband Rick of Easley; two grandsons, Nathaniel and Matthew Rice both of Easley.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Carroll Caddell and F.M. Caddell.

Funeral services to honor Mr. Caddell’s life were 2 p.m. Monday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

PICKENS — Robert Lee Williams, 63, of 320 Old Bethlehem School Road, died Saturday, March 30, 2013 in Central.

Born in Piedmont, he was the husband of Emily Holliday Williams of the home and was the son of Martha Morton Williams of Pickens and the late Zeb Williams. He was retired from Blue Ridge Electric after 38 years and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two daughters, Lindsey Williams and her fiancé Jason Constance of Pickens and Allison Bowes and her husband Matt of Greenville; a son, Chris Williams and his fiancé Samantha Hunter of Easley; a sister, Marlene Southern and her husband Larry of Travelers Rest; a brother, Ray Williams and his wife Linda of Lugoff; four grandchildren, Katelyn, Connor, Brennen and Karley; and a very special niece, Missy Edens and her husband Lee.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Williams were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

EASLEY — Jack Houston, 81, of Easley, husband of Geraline Stokes Houston, died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at his home.

Born in Pickens County, Mr. Houston was a son of the late John Robert Houston Sr. and Madge Lee Barton Houston. He was the owner of the Basket House, Aunt Sue’s and Main Street Market in Easley, and was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 59 years, are a daughter Sonya Houston; and two brothers, Wallace and Donald Houston.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Houston was predeceased by a daughter, LaDonna Houston; four brothers, the Rev. Cecil Houston, Harold, Robert Jr. and Milton Houston.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30 at St. Andrew United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

BARBARA LEE STEPHENS CRAWSHAW

EASLEY — Barbara Lee Stephens Crawshaw, 78, of Easley, wife of the late Charles Lowell Crawshaw, died Friday, March 29, 2013 at her home.

Born Feb. 22, 1935 in Gaston County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Howard Lee and Blease Holland Stephens. Mrs. Crawshaw graduated from Welcome High School in 1952 and in 1974 graduated Summa Cum Laude from California State University, Fullerton, with a BA in Business Administration Finance. She competed in the Mrs. New York Beauty Pageant and was past President of the Society for Advancement of Management.

Mrs. Crawshaw is survived by her daughters, Linda Porter (Stan) and Sandra Watts (Bob); sister, Doris Nelson (Buddy); grandchildren, Jeremy Porter, Brittany Forrester, Anthony Porter, Cody Porter, Jason Watts, Jenny Watts and Katie Watts; special friend, Arthur Irvin; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, April 1 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road with the Rev. Matt Williams officiating. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

GREENVILLE — David Barry Owens, Sr. 55, of Greenville, died Thursday, March 28, 2013.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of Joyce Ellenburg Owens and the late Ralph Owens. He was a former employee of Bi-Lo Inc. and of the Baptist faith and a member of Wando Woods Baptist Church in North Charleston.

Survivors include his mother, son, David Barry Owens, Jr. of Central and brother, Michael Owens (Terri) of Pickens, and sister, Cindy Sobin (Bill) of Liberty, nieces, Rebecca and Jessica Owens of Pickens, and nephew, Dylan Sobin of Liberty, and great-niece, Emma Owens of Pickens.

Memorial services were conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30 at Washington Avenue Baptist Church, Greenville.
