SHELBY ANN HAYNES PORTER

CENTRAL — Shelby Ann Porter, beloved wife of Charles B. Porter, Sr., died on April 1, 2013 at her home.

Born on Dec. 18, 1947 in Oconee County, she was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Anderson. Ann Porter (Ms. Ann) was retired from Hardee’s in Central.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her children, Sandra Anne Watson and Robin Porter both of Central; a son, Charles B. Porter, Jr. (Lynn) of Six Mile; 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; five sisters, Elmyra (Fred) Standridge of Anderson, Marilyn Moats of Anderson, Lutricia (Louis) Willimon of Pickens, Lynn (Hal) Dunlap of Pendleton and Laverne Crews of Anderson; and three brothers, Lony (Judy) Haynes of Pendleton, Jack (Peggy) Haynes of Anderson and Harvey (April) Haynes of Pendleton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, L.G. and Helen Haynes.

No services are planned.

CHARLES WELDON BREZEALE

 

PICKENS — Charles Weldon Brezeale, 81, died Monday, April 1, 2013 at his home.

Born in Pickens County a son of the late W.O. and Gladys Lafoy Brezeale, he was retired from Duke Power Oconee Plant and an Army Veteran.

Survivors include one daughter; Judy Harrelson of Pickens, two sons; Rickey Brezeale (Betsy) and Mitchell Brezeale both of Pickens, three sisters; Cleone Hayes of Pickens, Laura Ann Grant of Sunset, Elizabeth Collins of Pickens, four brothers; Curtis Brezeale, Donald Brezeale, Roger Brezeale and Kenneth Brezeale all of Pickens, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Brezeale was predeceased by his parents and three brothers; Waldo Brezeale, Herbert Brezeale and Stanley Brezeale.

Graveside services were conducted 11 a.m. Thursday April 4 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens conducted by the Rev. Rick Hayes and the Rev. Ken Collins.

HELEN G. GILSTRAP

PICKENS — Mary Helen Galloway Gilstrap, 68, of Chesapeake Trail, died April 1, 2013.

Born in Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Riley Freeman Galloway and Alice Verner Scott Galloway. Mrs. Gilstrap was a homemaker and member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Olin Henry “Pete” Gilstrap of the home; a daughter, Tina Moreno of Pickens; a son, Olin Eugene “Gene” Gilstrap of Pickens; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Harris of Easley, Patricia Palm of Greenville and Teresa Henderson of Pickens; and three brothers, Ricky Freeman Galloway and Riley Dennis Galloway both of Easley and David Maxwell Galloway of Pickens.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by four sisters, Myra Chapman, Jennie Reeves, Kathy Turner and Opalene Galloway; and two brothers, John Harold Galloway and William Larry Galloway.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m. in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

LIBERTY — Ambry Grace Goad, 6 months old, died peacefully at the loving home of her adoptive parents, the Rev. Jeffrey and Gloria Harris Thursday, April 4, 2013.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of Jenna Goad of Easley.

Surviving in addition to her mother and adoptive parents are her maternal grandparents, Julie and Chris Varn of Easley; her grandfather, Ronald Goad of Liberty; her adoptive grandmother, Jeanette Coyle of Liberty; her great grandparents, Bobby and Darlene Goad of Mississippi; her adoptive brothers, David Harris(Kimberly) and Jeffrey Harris, Jr.(Susan) all of Augusta, Ga.; a niece, Peyton Harris of Augusta; aunts, Kayla and Chelsea Goad of Easley and Meagan Todd(Jason) of Liberty; an uncle, C.J. Varn(Candace) of Easley; and a cousin, Mackenzie Todd.

The family would like to give very special thanks for the love, compassion and care that was given by the doctors and nurses and staff of Greenville Memorial Hospital NICU, Hands of Hope Hospice, P.S.A. Nursing and Calumet Baptist Church. In memory of Gracie we request a donation of a fitted crib sheet to be brought to the funeral to be given to Greenville Memorial NICU. EASLEY — Eula Stephens Craig, 90, of Easley, wife of the late John Ross Craig, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013.

Born in Pickens County, Mrs. Craig was a daughter of the late Bart and Cora Bryant Stephens. She retired from Sangamo Company and was a member of Forestville Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, John Stanley Craig (Sandra) of Easley; two daughters, Miriam Craig Harris (Ronnie) of Marietta and Joan Waters of Easley; three grandchildren, Melissa Stokes, John Stanley Craig Jr. and Kenneth Scott Craig; three great-grandchildren, Zachary Richard, Jessica Bryant and Dustin Craig.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Craig was predeceased by six brothers, five sisters and one son-in-law.

Graveside service was 2 p.m. Friday, April 5 at Gap Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

CARLOS YATES

 

PICKENS — Carlos Darrell Yates, 64, of 1256 Gravely Road, died Sunday, March 24, 2013 at his residence.

Born in Mavisdale, Va. he was a son of the late Carlos Doyle and Matrel Clayborn Yates. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, and an avid outdoorsman who loved trout fishing and hunting. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corp attaining the rank of Sergeant.

Surviving are his wife, Debbie Chandler Yates of the home; a daughter, Tarrah Yates-Fisher and her husband Chad of Pickens; Two grandchildren, Haley and Chandler Fisher; three brothers, Daniel Yates of Pickens, Doug Yates of Six Mile, and Jerry Yates of Kershaw; his grandmother, Hattie Lois Reeves Clayborn of Clay Pool Hill, Va.; his father and mother in law, Harold and Carolyn Cooley of Belton.

Graveside services to honor Mr. Yates life were 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6 at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

KIMBERLY CANNON GIBSON

EASLEY — Mrs. Kimberly Cannon Gibson, 51, wife of Dale Gibson, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Marion, Va., she was the daughter of Jack and Aileen Cannon. Mrs. Gibson was formerly employed with National Alliance and was of the Baptist faith. Kim worked as a VIP Hostess for the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, Tenn. In that time she met her beloved husband Dale. Later she earned her bachelors degree in Psychology at Clemson in 1986, but she never matched her husband’s love for Clemson until Coach Dabo Swinney got her “all in.” Kim was full of life and laughter that affected everyone she met. Kim never met a stranger. Her love of musicals and the arts led her to be a Peace Keeper at the Peace Center for the Performing Arts for over ten years. Her love of all animals led her to volunteer with the Greenville Humane Society.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 29 years, are a son, Kevin Gibson; a daughter, Brittany Lance (Andrew); and one brother, B.J. Cannon.

Kim was predeceased by a brother Mark Cannon, and her beloved Golden Retriever, Opie.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Sunday, April 7 at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Stancil officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

SGT MATTHEW KISTLER

 

CHERRY POINT, N.C. — Sgt Matthew Henry Kistler, USMC, 25, of Cherry Point, N.C. died Monday, March 25, 2013 at Camp Lejeune.

Born Sept. 29, 1987 in Winter Park, Fla., he was the son of Derek Kistler and Brenda Stinnett. He graduated from Apopka High School in 2006 and served his country in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In addition to his mother and father, he is survived by his daughter, Hadley Carolyn Kistler; grandparents, Ruth and Keith Kistler and Carolyn Taylor and Guy Stinnett.

Funeral services were conducted at 12 p.m. Friday, April 5 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road with Lt Brian J. Arant, CHC, USN officiating. Burial followed with full military honors in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

LIBERTY — John Edward Williams, 54, of 1379 Ruhamah Road, died Thursday at the home of his daughter.

Born in Blountville, Tenn. he was a son of Fate and Shelby Peters Williams. He was a member of Ruhamah Baptist Church, and was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast, and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his parents of Blountville, Tenn., are his wife, Ellen Williams of the home; three daughters, Tammy Donald of Six Mile, Tina Hicks of Bristol, Tenn., and Nina Anerino of Warren, Ohio; a son, Allen Himes of Liberty; a sister, Debbie Jones of Bristol, Tenn.; a brother, Billy Williams of Blountsville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; two very special friends, Don Bowman and Tom Sparks.

Funeral services to honor Mr. William’s life were 2 p.m. Sunday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Faith Baptist Church Cemetery.

MARGARET UNDERWOOD HUNTER

LIBERTY — Margaret Underwood Hunter, 93, died Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Manna Health and Rehab Pickens.

Born in Greenville County a daughter of the late H. Floyd and Pansey Busby Hedgepath Hunt, she was a member of Liberty Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include one daughter; Jane U. Wyche (Sam) of Pickens, one son; Ben F. Underwood (Donna) of Pickens, one stepson; Joe Hunter (Kristy) of Liberty, six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hunter was predeceased by her parents; a son, Clay Underwood; brothers, Floyd M. Hunt and James Hunt; and husbands, Jerry F. Underwood and Dr. Cleon Hunter.

A Memorial Service was Sunday, April 7 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home.

KENNETH GANTT

LIBERTY — Charles Kenneth “Teddy Bear” Gantt, 74, of 316 Summit Drive, died Friday, April 5, 2013 at Regency Hospital in Greenville.

Born in Six Mile he was a son of the late Eudie and Marie Finley Gantt. He was a 1957 Graduate of Liberty High School, and worked in construction for many years. He was a member of Rice’s Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Smith Gantt of the home; two daughters, Kay Starnes and her husband, Dr. Mitchell Starnes of Liberty, and Rita Gantt of Greenville; a son, Chuck Gantt and his wife Alison of Pickens; a sister, Martha Holden; two brothers, Billy Joe and Emmett Gantt; six grandchildren, Corey Addington, Brittany Cleveland, Anna Edwards, Jacob Gantt, Kristen Starnes, and Savannah Gantt.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Addington, one brother, Edward Gantt, and three sisters, Geneva Allamon, Nell Carman, and Sue McJunkin.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Gantt were 11 a.m. Monday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Entombment was at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

MARTHA BOLDING

PICKENS — Martha Stewart Bolding, 82, died Sunday at Redeemer Health and Rehab. Born in Six Mile, she was the widow of the late Hovie Denton Bolding and a daughter of the late Oscar and Geneva Cantrell Stewart. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a self employed cosmetologist and had taught cosmetology with the Greenville County School District for 15 years. She was also a member of Liberty Presbyterian Church where she had served as an elder.

Surviving are her special friends Paul and Sara Hamilton of Easley.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Emily Childress.

Graveside services for Mrs. Bolding will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Robert Lance will be conducting the service. No visitation is planned.

Paul and Sara would like to thank the staff and Administration of Redeemer Health and Rehab for the care and compassion that was shown to Mrs. Bolding during her declining health.

TOMMY JOE BURNS

LIBERTY – Tommy Burns, 64, of 7 Hunt Ave., Liberty died on April 1, 2013 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Liberty to the late S.D. and Phoebe Burns Sr. He was the widower of the late Ruby Holder Burns. Tommy worked in textiles for many years.

Tommy is survived by one daughter, Alica Jill Burns and twin grandchildren of Durham, N.C.; three sisters, Sarah Simmons of Greenville, Ann Becknell of Liberty, and Brenda Holliday (Ray) of Easley and two brothers, Alvin Burns (Selena) of Liberty and Wayne Burns (Ann) of Easley.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by six brothers.

A Memorial Service was held April 7. Burial will be in Liberty Memorial Gardens.
