Martha Kay Collins Price

Central — Martha Kay Collins Price, 59, of Central, died Thursday, April 4, 2013.

Born in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Mary Ester Collins. She was of the Baptist faith and a former CNA.

She is survived by: a companion, Joe Bridges, of the home; two sons, Mickey Neal (Marlene) of Liberty, and Bo Price (Elaine) of Pickens; four grandsons and four granddaughters; three brothers, Ray Collins of Easley, and Junior Collins (Joann) of Pickens, and Luther Collins of Norris.

She is predeceased by a daughter, Dedra Neal; a grandson, Jayden Neal; and two sisters, Teresa Cannon and Irene Collins.

Services were held at Open Praise Holiness Fellowship in Easley on Monday, April 8 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Rowland Bearden presiding.

Interment was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Easley.

Arrangements were handled by The Palmetto Mortuary, Greenville.

 

Mattie Raines

Easley — Mattie Reece Raines, 69, of Easley, wife of Kenneth Raines, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Pickens County, Mrs. Raines was a daughter of the late Earnest and Zelpha Anna Stancil Reece. Mrs. Raines was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Raines is survived by a son, Tim Raines; a special daughter, Lutrell Morton; three sisters, Lucille Elrod and Doris Mauldin both of Easley, Hazell Evatt of Pickens; three brothers, E. R. Reece and Riley Reece both of Liberty, Earl Reece of Pickens; five grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Raines was predeceased by three sisters, Arvie Morton, Mildred Gillispie, and Ruby Nell Gillispie; and one brother, Earnest (Bud) Reece.

Graveside services were 2 p.m. Friday, April 12 at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Berce Lewis

Pickens — Berce William Lewis, 93, husband of the late Betty Alberta “Bertie” Massingale Lewis, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013.

Mr. Lewis was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Virgil Joe B. Lewis and the late Mildred Bailey Lewis. He was retired from Alice manufacturing Company after 45 years service and he was a member of Gilead Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Betty Haynes and son, Marvin Joe Lewis both of Pickens, brothers, Garvin Lewis, T. J. Lewis, and Hildred Lewis all of Pickens and a sister Evelyn Porter of Easley. Also surviving are grandchildren, Joe Hendricks, Tammy Coates, Jimmy Haynes, Teresa Peace, Tina Entrekin, and Tracy Mann, great grandchildren, Josie Hendricks, Heather Hendricks, Hope Hendricks, and Justin Coates and a great great grandson, Weston McJunkins.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Friday, April 12 at Concord Baptist Church. Burial followed at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

George W. Adcox, Jr.

Easley — George Washington Adcox, Jr., 74, husband of Beatrice Hudson Adcox, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013.

Mr. Adcox was born in Pickens County, a son of the late George Washington and Mattie Gillespie Adcox. He was retired from Duke Energy and was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church where he was a member of the Auditorium Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Beatrice, of the home, daughters, Christine Baldwin (Ricky) of Easley and Sherry Parker of Liberty, and grandchildren, Kayla Parker, Morgan Parker, and Eric Baldwin.

Funeral services were conducted 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens with the Rev. Dr. Roger Couch officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Rainey Hospice House in Anderson for the loving care given to Mr. Adcox.

Ronnie Gravely

Pickens — Ronnie E. Gravely, 58, husband of Kathy Cooper Gravely, died Friday, April 12, 2013.

Ronnie was born in Pickens, a son of the late Albert Gravely and the late Addie Day Burkett. He was retired from The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and he was a member of Mile Creek Baptist Church. Ronnie was an outdoorsman where he loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed a round of golf. At Mile Creek Baptist Church, Ronnie formerly served as assistant song leader, deacon, choir member and Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Kathy, of the home and his sons, Chris Gravely and Cameron Gravely both of the home and step-father, Charles Burkett of Pickens. Surviving also is a brother, Jack Gravely of Marietta, sister, Vicki Gravely Crawford of Pickens, brother, Dale Burkett of Pickens, and sister, Ramona Parker of Greenville.

In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Gravely and sister, Janice Burkett.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Sunday at Mile Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Chapman, the Rev. Darren Shuler, and the Rev. Kevin Durham officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with the Rev. Barry Pace officiating.

Cody M. Miller

 

Easley — Mr. Cody Morris Miller, II, widower of Matril Rachael Greer Miller died on April 8, 2013 at Agape Hospice in Conway.

Mr. Miller was a son of George Henry Alexander Miller and Mary Lou Ella Porter Miller Grant, having been born in Easley, on September 3, 1922. Mr. Miller attended Easley area schools and served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley.

Mr. Miller is survived by his only child, Dolores Rachael Miller Pringle, and husband, Charles Gary Pringle of Myrtle Beach. Mr. Miller had made his home with them since the death of his wife in 2003 and had been in declining health since 2001. Three grandchildren also survive him: Charles Alexander Miller Pringle and wife, Dana Lucas Pringle, of Simpsonville; Elizabeth Greer Pringle Unger and her husband, Julian W. ” Jay ” Unger of Charleston, and Samuel Morris MacKenzie Pringle and his wife, Ruby Ancess Pringle of Myrtle Beach. Mr. Miller is survived also by his three great-grandchildren: Charles Lucas Pringle and Caroline Kilgore Pringle of Greenville, Mayes Elizabeth Jefferies Unger of Charleston, and one step-great-grandson, Henry James Unger of Columbia and Charleston. He is survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Betty H. Greer, four nephews and seven nieces, and a number of great-nephews and great-nieces.

Mr. Miller was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was predeceased by the following: A granddaughter, Mary Rachael Pringle, four brothers: Paul D., and Jack D. Miller of Easley, George H. Miller, Jr. of Martinez, GA, and Billy C. Grant of Easley; two Sisters: Velvia E. Miller and Gladys Miller Tanner, both of Easley.

Services were held from the graveside in the churchyard of Rock Springs Baptist Church, Easley, on Wednesday, April 10, at 2 p.m. He will be laid to rest beside his wife of 57 years.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Agape Hospice of Conway, especially to those who cared for Mr., Miller during his recent confinement. We truly appreciate the caring nature of his home care nurse, Carolyn Thomas.

Stearl Bartges Moyer

 

Easley — Stearl Bartges Moyer, 78, of 106 Boulder Ct., husband of Dallas Harpster Moyer, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at his home.

Born Nov. 20, 1934 in Jersey Shore, Pa., he was a son of the late Stearl Adam and Jenny Bartges Moyer. Mr. Moyer was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a stevedore in Thule, Greenland. He was self-employed who loved fishing, model plane building, family and especially his loving wife “Cat”. Mr. Moyer was a member of Westwood Baptist Church and was faithful in reading his Bible every day.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by his sons, Jeffery Moyer (Debbie), James Moyer and Joseph Moyer; daughter, Sheree Pearson (Donnie); sister, Jean Taras; and 10 grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Alice Wedlake and his brother, Dean Moyer.
Memorial services were conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday, April 13 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Lance Farthing

Easley – Carroll Lance Farthing, 68, of 115 Edinburgh Lane, died Friday, April 12, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Boone, N.C., a son of Edmund and Hazel Cable Farthing of Vilas N.C., Mr. Farthing retired as a driver with Roadway Express where he received the three million mile safe driving award. He was a member of Truth Missionary Baptist Church for 17 years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served with the U.S. Marines.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Shirley Finley Farthing of the home; a son, David Lance Farthing, who is serving with the U.S. Air Force; a brother, Len Farthing of Boone, N.C.; and two sisters, Debbie Farthing and Patti Hensley, both of Boone, N.C.

Mr. Farthing was predeceased by a brother, Byron Farthing.

Funeral services were at 4 p.m. Monday at Truth Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Sammy Kay, Sr., the Rev. Sammy Kay, Jr., and the Rev. Dr. Scott Dean officiating.

Committal services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Farthing Family Cemetery in Vilas, N.C.

Jincey S. Suttles

Liberty – Jincey Stephens Sweezy Suttles, 86, of 547 E. Main Street, died Saturday at The Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.

Born in Liberty, she was a daughter of the late John and Stella Stephens. She was retired from Woodside Mills and had also worked at Seniors Unlimited. She was a longtime member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter Donna Messer(David) of Liberty; a son, Steve Sweezy(Ginny) of Cayce; two brothers, Don Stephens of Simpsonville and Dempsey Stephens of Greenville; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband James Wesley Sweezy; her second husband Woodrow Suttles; a daughter, Ann Sweezy Gibson; three sisters, Lois Acton, Sonnie Harvey and Dot Welborn; and two brothers, Bonham and Macon Stephens.

Funeral services for Mrs. Suttles were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

Thomas Rankin

Liberty – Thomas Clifford Rankin, Jr., 93, husband of the late Leah Pettit, died Saturday April 13, 2013 at his home on Liberty Highway after a short illness.

He was the son of the late Grayton Johnston and Thomas C. Rankin. Born May 19, 1919 in the Walker McElmoyle community of Anderson County, he graduated from Pendleton High School then traveled to New York to train as a diesel mechanic. In Jan. of 1942, prompted by the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he, along with several community friends, joined the military. He served in the Army Air Corp until 1946. The majority of his working life was spent at Anderson Auto Parts in Easley as an auto mechanic. He retired from Wamsutta Industries in Anderson. He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church where he held the distinction of oldest male member. He served many years as a trustee of the Walker McElmoyle School Farm and Slabtown Cemetery Friends. Thomas enjoyed working around his home and always had a project in progress. His hands and mind were never idle and he never turned down an opportunity to “fix” something. A favorite activity was traveling to Oolenoy Community House for bluegrass jams where he was especially fascinated by the talent of the young people. His quick wit, energy, knowledge, wisdom and love were a constant inspiration to his daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. Above all else, Thomas Rankin lived a dignified and respected life. He will be missed and fondly remembered by many.

He is survived by daughters Debbie Sears of Pendleton, Nancy and husband Billy Ewing of Anderson; grandchildren Chuck Sears and wife Carolyn, Jody Sears and wife Susan, Lori Sloan and husband Michael, Tyler Williams and wife Michaela. Great-grandchildren are Haden, Savannah, Sarah and Matthew Sears; Reagan and Blake Sloan. Thomas was anticipating the September birth of a seventh great-grandchild, Harper Williams. Also surviving is a sister Rachael R. Breazeale of Greenwood, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Courtney Ellen Williams, son-in-law David Sears, a sister Mildred R. Batson and brothers Hugh and Bill Rankin.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Flat Rock Baptist Church, 115 Slab Bridge Road, Liberty, SC, followed by interment in Slabtown Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Bagwell Road, Liberty.

Andrew Russel Hamm

Six Mile – Andrew Russel Hamm, age 82 hus­band of Wil­lodean Bur­ton Hamm, died Thursday March 21, 2013 at Can­non Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Hamm was born in Newberry; son of the late Beulah Sin­gley Hamm and Rohn Agnew Hamm. Mr. Hamm was a member of Ridgeland Drive Baptist Church, Six Mile, retired from Singer and a lifelong farmer.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, two daughters; Cindy Hamm Britt (Joe) of North Augusta, Rita H. Martin (Dean) of Central, one son; David Hamm of An­derson, two sisters; Gertrude Bowers of Newberry, Sarah Reavis of Myrtle Beach, two grand­daughters.

A chapel service was Sat­urday, March 23.

Burial was at Hill­crest Memorial Park and Gardens. Senior Mens Sunday School Class served as Hon­orary Pallbearers.

John C. “Rock On” Revis

Easley – John Carl “Rock On” Revis, 65, of Easley died Wednesday, April 10, 2013.

John was born in New Jersey, the son of the late Carl John and Rose Petrizio Revis. He was an avid NASCAR fan and he had worked on the Jason Keller and Larry Pearson teams. John was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Viet Nam War. He was employed with the City of Easley Maintenance Department.

Survivors include his aunts, Marie Naphegyi and family of Hoboken, New Jersey, and Agnes Reeves and family of Pickens and his adopted family, David and Cindy Smith of Easley.

Rock On will be greatly missed by all.

A graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21 in the Veterans Garden of Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens in Pickens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Anderson VFW Post #5996, 1905 Highway 29 North, Anderson, SC 29621.
