Elizabeth “Betty” Cruickshank
Clemson — Elizabeth “Betty” Henry Cruickshank, 81, wife of Charles A. Cruickshank died Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca.
Born in Rochester, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Russell B. and Mildred Doty Henry. Betty earned an Associate degree in Dietetics from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y., her B.A. in English Education from the State University of New York, Geneseo and a Masters from the State University of New York in Brockport in 1973. She was a high school English teacher and guidance counselor. She was a life-long Presbyterian and was ordained as a deacon and elder. She was a member of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church where she was active in Presbyterian Women and teaching ESOL for 15 years. Betty retired to Clemson 29 years ago. She was an avid gardener and volunteered at the South Carolina Botanical Garden for 28 years. She was a member of the Foothills Garden Club, Clemson Garden Club and Master Gardeners of the Foothills. She was a member of the original advisory board of the South Carolina Botanical Garden in 1992. She and her husband established the Cruickshank Hosta Garden at the South Carolina Botanical Garden in 1995.
Surviving in addition to her husband are sons, Charles Cruickshank (Cecelia) of Ham Lake, Minn., Douglas Cruickshank (Kay) of Alpharetta, Ga., and Paul Cruickshank of Athens, Ga.; daughter, Donna McCubbin (Jim) of Clemson; brother, Jim Henry of Sun City, Ariz.; sister Jean Beckhorn (Duane) of Oxford, Md.; grandchildren, Andrew Cruickshank, Heather Niccum, Stewart Cruickshank, Duncan Cruickshank, and Corey McCubbin; great-grandchildren, Alison, Kailey, Victoria, Alexa, and Russell.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a brother, John Henry.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 26 at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, Clemson. Interment will be in the Fort Hill Presbyterian Church Columbarium.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.

Kelly L. Brackett
Central — Kelly Leanne Brackett, 26, of 161 Kelly Mill Road died Friday, April 19, 2013 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens.
Kelly was born in Easley a daughter of Ronnie Wade Brackett and his wife, Wanda of Central and Dorothy Jane Durham Brackett of Liberty. She was a student at Greenville Tech and an employee with McDonalds in Pickens.
Surviving in addition to her parents are; a sister, Allison Brackett of the home; half-brother, Ronnie Brackett of Illinois; half-sisters, Brandy Gladden of Florida and Elisha Chavez of Germany; step-brothers, Kenneth Barton and Bradley Barton both of Dacusville; step-sisters, Ashley Bruce of Charleston and Sylvia Craig of Six Mile.
Funeral services were 4 p.m., Tuesday at Six Mile Church of Propecy with the Rev. Joseph E. Durham officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery immediately following the service.

Miriam Ponder Hall
Dacusville — Mrs. Miriam Ponder Hall, 94, wife of the late Frank Manning Hall, died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Glorified Health and Rehab, Greenville.
Born Jan. 3, 1919, in Dacusville, she was a daughter of the late Dr. William M. and Kate M. Ponder. After 28 years of service, she retired as an elementary school educator from West End Elementary in Easley in 1979. She was a 1935 graduate of Dacusville High School, and a 1940 graduate of Lander College majoring in English and Elementary Education, she served as President of the Senior Class, and was selected as a member of Who’s Who in America Colleges and Universities. Mrs. Hall was also a past member and regent of Daughter’s of The American Revolution, and she was the first president and charter member of Daughter’s of The American Colonies. She was a member of the International Teachers Sorority and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Mrs. Hall was a lifelong member of Dacusville United Methodist Church where she was a former member of the church choir, past Sunday School Teacher, past member of the Frank Hall Sunday School Class, as well as former President of United Methodist Women.
Surviving are her son, Ronny Hall and his wife, Linda of Dacusville; a grandson, Kevin Hall and his wife Katie, and their children, Maya, Jordan and Ashley Hall, all of Concord, N.C.; Linda Hall’s daughter, Lisa McIntosh and her husband Riley, and their child, Jones McIntosh, all of Greenville.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hall was predeceased by brothers William M. Ponder, Jr. and James E. Ponder; sisters, Nan Falls, Lillian Price, Leota Breazeale, Frances Deluane, Katherine Riggins, and Mary Walters.
Graveside services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23 in the Dacusville United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Will Harper officiating.

Lila Smith
Easley — Lila Evangeline Wright Smith, 74, wife of Chester Franklin Smith, Jr., died away Thursday, April 18, 2013 at her home.
Born in Easley, to the late V.A. and Ola Mae Bagwell Wright, Lila graduated from Pickens High School in 1956 with honors and was a member of the Beta Club. She went on to study at Holmes Bible College for two years before she took a secretarial job at Sun Heating Supplies in Greenville, where she worked for 24 years. Mrs. Smith was known to be a very active person who enjoyed sewing, playing piano and working at her computer, but most of all, she was a loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, of 49 years, are a son, Lin Smith (Michelle); two grandchildren, Bailey and Ryan Gambrell; and a Special Aunt, Janie Bagwell.
Funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park, in Pickens.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of VistaCare Hospice for the loving care they gave to Mrs. Smith.

Annie H. Rowland
Central — Annie Head Rowland, 83, of 143 Rowland Drive and wife of Harold M. Rowland, died Sunday, April 21, 2013.
Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late J. Arthur and Kansie Whitmire Head. She was a graduate of Central High School and was a long-time Lunch Room Manager at Central Elementary School. Annie was a member of the Central Fire Baptized Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are sons, David H. Rowland (Juanita) of Anderson, John E. Rowland (Carolyn) of Liberty, Cecil R. Rowland (Martha) and Thomas G. Rowland (Susan) both of Central; daughter, Ann Hamlin (Clint) of Seneca; brothers, Charles Head, and John Head both of Central; sisters, Lola Hawkins, Doris Riggins and Reba Drummond all of Central and Edna Cunningham of Greer; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, James, Paul and Ernest Head; and sister, Lois Hightower.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Wednesday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Shelvia (Shevie) Poore
Central — Shelvia (Shevie) Jean Smith Poore, 76, of Central, died peacefully on April 23, 2013.
Born in Greenville on Oct. 14, 1936, to Frank T. Smith and Jennie Gillespie Smith (Penn). She was retired and a member of Kings Grove Baptist Church, near Six Mile. She worked at Pratt-Read & Co. in Central from 1960 until the plant closed in the mid 1980s, then worked as a house parent at Helping Hands of Clemson. She most recently provided cleaning services at the Newton Law Firm in Clemson.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela L. Poore Paxton, and her husband, Fred L. Paxton, Jr.; her grandsons, Charles L. (Chaz) Paxton, and his wife, Leah, of Six Mile and Brandon M. Paxton of Denver, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Cadence (Cadie) Paxton and Carter Jude Paxton; sisters, Joan Smith Farley of Athol, Idaho, Janie Smith Hudson of Simpsonville, and Mary Ann Smithy of Mauldin.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 27 at Kings Grove Baptist Church, 1335 Old Seneca Road, Central, SC 29630. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
