JOHN MICHAEL BURGESS

LIBERTY — Mr. John Michael Burgess, 51, loving husband of Tabitha Burgess, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, at Prisma Health Baptist Easley Hospital.

Michael was born on July 11, 1970, in Pickens County to Shelby Joan Gossett (Thomas Rhodes) and the late William Singleton Burgess.

In addition to his loving wife, Michael is survived by his four children, Gina Norris (Tyler Moore), Tia Prewitt (Devin), Patricia Jordan (Matthew) and Nate Burgess; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Joseph Moore (Lisa Charles). Michael is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.

In addition to his father, Michael was preceded in death by a sister, Gaynell Burgess; an aunt; and two uncles.

The family is planning a memorial service for a later date.

ALAN N. FRITZSCHE

 

PICKENS — Alan N. Fritzsche, a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at age 95.

A son of the late Waldemar and Josephine Fritzsche, Alan grew up in Camden, N.J.

At the age of 17, Alan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in order to serve the United States during World War II. Assigned to the Second Marine Division, he valued this service highly and attained the rank of corporal before being discharged in 1946. He served in the Pacific, working to help establish communications as a wireman laying telephone wire to the front line on Okinawa. Later, his division was the first division to occupy Japan.

Alan is survived by his wife of 11 years, Carolyn; his sons, Joseph (Marcia) and David (Linda); grandchildren, Jennifer, Brad, Kristina (Darren) and Erik (Sarah); and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 58 years, Anna.

Anyone who knew Alan will remember his love for God and his desire to serve Him.

A celebration of Alan’s life will be conducted on Wednesday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m., at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. For those not able to attend, Alan’s service will be livestreamed via the church’s Facebook page.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the service, at the church.

A private burial will take place at a later date at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Church Missions Fund of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Attn: Keith Stewart, 830 Country Club Road, Pickens, SC 29671.

JACK W. FREEMAN JR.

PIEDMONT — Jack Freeman, 58, husband of 35 years to Angela Freeman, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022, at his residence.

A native of Greenville County, Jack was born on June 9, 1963, to Jack Wayne Freeman Sr. and the late Mitzi Kay Stanton Freeman. Jack was an employee of SCDOT and was dearly loved by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Angela, of the home, Mr. Freeman is survived by his children, Bridgett Martin (Kevin) of Pickens and Jack Freeman III of Piedmont; his grandchildren, Brianna Martin and Conner Martin; and his sisters, Helen Lance and Alicia Freeman.

Mr. Freeman was predeceased by his mother and two brothers, Joel Freeman and Aaron Freeman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Freeman’s honor to the Shriners Hospital of Greenville, located at 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

Receiving of family and friends took place on March 15 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, with funeral services following. Burial took place at Hillcrest Memorial Park following the service.

WELDON R. BELMORE

PICKENS — Weldon R. Belmore, 77, loving husband of 25 years to Martha Shelton Belmore, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at his home.

A native of Gouverneur, N.Y., Weldon was born Oct. 3, 1944, the son of the late Myrtle Rosella Belmore and Stanley Sanford Belmore. Mr. Belmore was a graduate of Gouverneur High School and attended SUNY A.T.C College in Canton, N.Y. He worked at Corning Glass, Ryobi Tools and Michelin Tires. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and drawing. Mr. Belmore was a member of 5 Point Church in Easley.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Belmore of Pickens; four children, Gordon Scott (Jennifer) of Binghamton, N.Y., Tracey Lee (Cindy) of Canton, N.Y., Anthony Roy of Norwood, N.Y., and Derek Lane of Waddington, N.Y.; seven stepchildren, Robert James Phippin of Hopkinton, N.Y., Sherry Phippin Gesualdi of Missouri, Mary Margaret Phippen Charleston of Potsdam, N.Y., Jill Haack of Brookings, S.D., Christy Weber of Pickens, Toni Hyder of Marietta and Joni Weber of Pickens; grandchildren, Bethany (Sam), Sidney, Jason, Kayly-Jaye, Abbie, Reece, Brandon, Holden, Jack, Morgan, Jordan, Quentin, Lily, Ivy and Abigail; great-grandchildren, David, Paisley, Honor and Atticus; and brothers, Wayne Belmore and Warren Belmore, both of Gouverneur, N.Y., as well as Wendell Belmore and William Belmore, both of Greenwood.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Belmore was predeceased by a stepson, Christopher Robin Phippen of Hopkinton, N.Y.

A celebration of life service to honor Weldon will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, at 5 Point Church, 1039 S. Pendleton St., Easley, SC 29642. A graveside service will be held in Antwerp Cemetery in Antwerp, N.Y., that will be announced at a later date.

JANICE MARIE PARTON LESLEY

EASLEY — Janice Marie Parton Lesley, 73, wife of James H. Lesley, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022.

Born in Waynesville, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Jack and Mary Caldwell Parton.

Mrs. Lesley was a bookkeeper at Gettys Middle School for almost 30 years and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

She was an avid reader and loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild.

In addition to her loving husband of 53 years, Mrs. Lesley is survived by sons, Jay Lesley (Carrie) and Michael Lesley (Jaclyn), both of Easley; grandchildren, Jakob, Olivia, Mallari, Taylor, Blake, Brody and Bella; a great-grandchild, Amelia; and a brother. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Maggie.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Rock Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Zion Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12-1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, at the church.

DORIS FLANAGAN

LIBERTY — Doris Annette Flanagan, 82, died on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at her residence.

Born in Cateechee, she was the widow of the late Thomas Vella Flanagan and the daughter of the late Jack and Vera Herd Lilttleton. She graduated from Liberty High School, where she was the valedictorian. She loved gospel music and reading her Bible. She was a member of Pickens View Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Pamela Mathis of Central; two sons, Thomas Randall Flanagan and James Kenneth Flanagan, both of Liberty; a brother, James Littleton of Norris; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Wallace Littleton.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Flanagan will be held on March 11 at Pickens View Wesleyan Church. Burial was at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

WILLIAM JOE  ‘BOBBY’ ROBERTS

PIEDMONT — William Joe “Bobby” Roberts, 52, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at McCall Hospice House.

Born Nov. 17, 1969, he was the son of William Kenneth Roberts and the late Phyllis Holcombe.

Bobby was a man of strong faith and was a carpenter by trade. His greatest joy was his dog, Honey.

In addition to his father and stepmother, Patricia Roberts, he is survived by his children, Amber Drake (John) of Donalds, Vickie Holinko (Andrew) of Williamston and William Roberts (Kayla) of Newport News, Va.; five grandchildren, Claire, Tyler, Xena, Jayla and Aubree; as well as three siblings, Brandon Roberts of Greer, J.R. Roberts (Katelyn) of Central and Telia Roberts of Central.

The family received friends on March 12. A funeral service followed at the chapel of Mountain View Funerals and Cremations – Seneca Chapel. Interment followed in the Dodd Cemetery.

Flowers are accepted, or memorial may be made in Bobby’s honor to the American Cancer Society.

ANDRUW EARNARDT

CLEMSON — Andruw Noel Earnhardt, 21, who recently went missing, was reunited with his family on March 6, 2022.

Born in Pensacola, Fla., he was a 2019 graduate of D.W. Daniel High School.

He was an avid self-taught computer programmer of multiple languages. He loved reading and learning. He also enjoyed being outdoors, photographing nature.

Andruw was a gentle soul who was compassionate and caring and would always stand up for what was just. He was a family man and friend to everyone.

Surviving are his father, Jason Earnhardt (Amber) of Clemson; his mother, Tonya Devore Earnhardt of Clemson; siblings, Isaac and Zach Earnhardt and Isaly, Ceara, Kendall, India and Gabriel Parks; grandparents, Henry Earnhardt (Donna), Kathy Earnhardt, David Devore (Cynthia) and Jeannie Devore; uncles and aunts, Jeremy Earnhardt (Lyndsay), Robbie Devore (Christina) and Miranda Devore; and numerous cousins and friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the following organizations for their efforts in locating our precious Andruw: Clemson Police Department, Pickens County Emergency Management, Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, S.C. Department of Natural Resources, Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Army National Guard, Michel Galliot (K9 handler) and our loving community and supportive volunteers.

The family hosted a memorial service on March 10 at Blue Ridge Community Fellowship, 10802 Clemson Blvd., Suite C, Seneca, SC.
