Marvin J. Lewis

Pickens — Marvin J. Lewis, 63, husband of Wendy Howard Lewis, of Pickens, died Thursday evening, May 9, 2013.

Marvin was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Berce William and Alberta (Bertie) Massingale Lewis. He formerly worked in textiles as a weaver and he was a member of Pickens Independent Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Wendy of the home, daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Coates and Randall of Pickens and grandson, Justin Coates. Also surviving are step-children, Katherine Heavlin, Shalane Tompkins, and Dolly Brannen, sister, Betty Haynes, nephew, Joe Hendricks, great nieces, Josie, Hope, and Heather Hendricks, and great great nephew, Weston McJunkins.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 14 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens with the Rev. Roger Morgan and the Rev. Tommy Hayes officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and GardAens.

 Edwin C. Lewis

 Pickens — Edwin Carlyle Lewis, 88, formerly of Henderson Street and husband of the late Mildred Grant Lewis, died Monday, May 6, 2013.

Mr. Lewis was born in Pickens County, a son of the late J. Frank and May Fleming Lewis. He was an insurance agent first with Southland Life and later retired from Life of Georgia. He was a faithful and active member of Porter’s Chapel United Methodist Church and the Charlie B. Grant Sunday School Class. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Mediterranean and European and Asian and Pacific Theaters. Mr. Lewis was also a member of The American Legion.

Survivors include sons, Ron Lewis (Joy) of Summerton, Mark Lewis and his companion Clay Francis of Durham, N.C., and Sid Lewis (Jane) of Pickens and daughter, Ann Hall (Bill) of Seneca, seven grandchildren, Kevin Lewis, (Jill), Brittany Lewis, Annelise Martens (Matthew), Alexandra Lewis and her fiancé, Thomas Ralston, Lauran Henderson (Josh), Sarah Hamby, and Ross Hamby and three great grandchildren, Brodey Lewis, Kase Lewis, and Annie Carlyle Martens. Also surviving is a sister, Irene Breazeale of Pickens and a special friend, Joan Hendricks.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, Mildred, Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his step-mother, Nora Gilstrap Lewis, and brothers, Albert R. Lewis, Capers Lewis and John Frank Lewis and sisters, Helen Stephens, Gertrude Hughes, and Frances Stowe and great granddaughter, Allison K. Lewis.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Wednesday at Dillard Funeral Home in the chapel with the Rev. Dick Waldrep and the Rev. H. C. Couch officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and residents of The Inn at Seneca Assisted Living Facility and also Gentiva Hospice.

William J. Bradley, Jr.

 Easley — William James Bradley, Jr., 73, husband of Marcia Ogle Bradley, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Greenville Memorial Hospital following a seven month battle with cancer.

He was born in Tennessee on Nov. 1, 1939 to the late William and Alice Hardwick Bradley. Mr. Bradley was a graduate of Sylacauga High School Class of 1957 in Sylacauga, Ala. He served 11 years in the U.S. Navy including service on a guided missile cruiser off Vietnam. Mr. Bradley returned to Tennessee where he worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority and retired from Gallatin Steam Plant. He was an avid Vols fan. Bill was an active member of Nine Forks Baptist Church where he served as asst. Men’s Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. He was also past president of the Dacusville Lions Club and a volunteer with United Christian Ministries. Bill and Marcia loved traveling especially to beaches in Florida, Hawaii, Myrtle Beach and Hunting Island where they spent many happy hours beachcombing, fishing and shrimping.

He is survived by Marcia, the love of his life, and her son, Geneen Peterson; grandson, Hunter Peterson; SC Daughter, Lisa Sayatte; sister, Jane B. Handley (Bill); nieces, Liz McKinney (Tim), Becky Stovall, nephew, Bill Handley (Teresa); great-nieces, Erika and Megan Handley; and great-nephew, Bryan McKinney (Ashley) and Lilie and Payton.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Friday, May 10 at Nine Forks Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Joe Grammas 

Liberty — Clarence Joseph “Joe” Grammas, 64, of 502 Garvin Road, died peacefully on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at his home.

Born in Painesville, Ohio he was a son of the late Clarence Henry and Zola Fulkrod Grammas. He was a retired chemist from Cognis in Simpsonville, and was an avid fisherman. He served his country in the Vietnam War where he was a member of the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division.

Surviving is his wife, Brenda G. Grammas of the home; three daughters, Jeanna Foley and her husband James of Hartwell, Ga., Julia Bagwell of Easley, and Jodie Hunt and her husband Marty of Buford, Ga.; a sisters, Norma Coble of Liberty; nine grandchildren.

Memorial services to honor the life of Mr. Grammas were 3 p.m. Saturday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel.

 Gene Anthony Finley

Auburn, Wash. — Gene A. Finley, 67, formally of Pickens, husband of the late Melanie Finley, died April 15, 2013 at his home.

Born in Ashwell, England a son of Jessie Wallace Finley of the home and the late Ray Finley. Mr. Finley was a 1967 graduate of Clemson University, he was an engineer with Boeing in Seattle, Wash. and was retired after 35 years of service.

Survivors include his mother, a sister; Rebecca Freeman (Jimmy) of Pickens and a special niece and nephew Rae Holcombe and Corey Freeman, three great nieces and one great nephew.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home followed by a memorial service to celebrate Gene’s life at 3 p.m.

Frances Margaret Richard Cline

Easley — Mrs. Frances Margaret Richard Cline, 82, wife of the late Alvin Bradford Cline, died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at her home.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Thomas Clevland and Lula Wright Richard, Mrs. Cline was a homemaker and a member of Arial United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Greg Cline (Wanda) of Easley, and Brad Cline (Margaret) of Greenville; one sister, Lou Ellen King of Easley; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Cline was predeceased by a daughter, Amy Dodgens.

Graveside services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 14 in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Robert James Grieb, Sr.

 Pickens — Robert James Grieb, Sr. 63, died on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at his home in Pickens.

Mr. Grieb was born in Pennsylvania a son of the late William and Lanett Grieb. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a cook for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Delaware.

Survivors include three sons; Robert James Grieb, Jr., Matthew Grieb and Brian Grieb all of Delaware a sister; Margaret Pietzsch of Pennsylvania and a companion Barbara Maw of Pickens.

A memorial service was held 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 8 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens officiated by Mr. C. B. Dunson.

Albert Sidney Boggs

 Easley — Mr. Albert Sidney Boggs, 86, husband of Daisy Burgess Boggs and the late Mary Louise Finley Boggs, died Monday, May 13, 2013 at his home.

Born in Anderson County, a son of the late Robert Lee and Nora Bridges Boggs, Mr. Boggs retired from the U.S. Navy with 23 years of service and later retired from Union Carbide-Kemet Division as an engineer. He was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of the home, are three sons, Richard S. Boggs of Easley, James Boggs (Jann) of Springville, Ala., and the Rev. Scott Willis (Robin) of Easley; and three granddaughters, Kristin Marie Boggs, Anna Willis, and Mara Willis.

In addition to his first wife and parents, Mr. Boggs was predeceased by a son, John A. Boggs; a granddaughter, Pamela Sue Yearta; three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with the Rev. Zack Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Escort of Honor will be the Men’s Bible Class of Pendleton Street Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 15 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

The family is at the home.

 Modena Jameson

Easley — Modena Massingill Jameson, 91, formerly of Park Street Drive, died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Countryside Village.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late John King and Vesta Kay Massingill, Mrs. Jameson retired from the Elljean Plant of Alice Manufacturing Company and was a member of Park Street Baptist Church.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by two brothers, Ray Massingill and Ronnie Massingill; by and four sisters, Vera Hill, Eva Tinsley, Ollie Cater and Robah Wilson.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Westview Cemetery.
