RUBY CASSELL SIMMONS

EASLEY — Ruby Cassell Simmons, 88, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, at her home surrounded by family.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late E.P. “Pink” and Rebecca Gilstrap Cassell. Ruby retired from Ryobi Motor Products and was a faithful member of Free Wesleyan Church in Easley, where she was the treasurer for 32 years. She came from a family of eight children and was the only one to graduate from high school.

Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Fulton Herbert Simmons; one daughter, Renda Simmons (Jerry); one daughter-in-law, Tina Simmons; six grandchildren, Shane Cooper (Ana), Jonathan Cooper, Ashley Cooper, Clark Simmons, Krista Turpin (Jason) and Leslie Simmons; and five great-grandchildren, Ryder Simmons, Easton Turpin, Anslee Turpin, Lyla Turpin and Haily Cooper.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Samuel Simmons.

She was a beloved wife, mother, granny and great-granny to her family.

The family would like to thank Interim Hospice and our very special sitters for the care and support that was extended.

Cryptside services were held on Thursday, Oct. 6, at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

HARVEY J. ‘JUNIOR’ DAVES

PICKENS — Harvey J. “Junior” Daves, 81, loving husband of to the late Susan Norris Daves, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022, at his home.

A native of Brevard, N.C., Junior was born on Feb. 18, 1941, the son of the late Harvey W. Daves and Willa Mae Daves.

Survivors include his children, Kathy Brown (Allen), Sheila Silvers and Eric Daves, all of Pickens; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two brothers.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Daves was predeceased by a brother.

TAMMY RACKLEY

EASLEY — Tammy Jean Rackley, 61, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Oct. 7, 2022.

Born in Greenville County, a daughter of Jeanette Chambers Rackley of Easley and the late Richard Edward Rackley Sr., Tammy was a graduate of Parker High School, retired from St. Jude’s Medical and was a member of Jane Russell Presbyterian Church.

Tammy, “Momma and Nana,” was an incredibly kind and humble soul who was devoted to her family. A warm and strong mother, she spent her life being a champion for her daughters. She loved to laugh and enjoy every minute spent with her grandchildren. She loved the Lord and was quick to share a “God bless you” and an encouraging word to everyone she encountered.

Surviving are her three daughters, Jami Woodall (Jason) of Pickens, Christy Brown of Pickens and Katy Driscoll (Dan) of Powdersville; a brother, Richard E. Rackley Jr. (Tammy) of Easley; two sisters, Deborah Edwards and Angela Rackley, both of Easley; six grandchildren, Baylee Brown, Dillon Woodall, Avery Woodall, Kappy Driscoll, Hudson Dacus and Whitt Driscoll; and her beloved and devoted dog, Toby.

In addition to her father, Tammy was predeceased by a brother, Jeffrey Rackley.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Bethesda United Methodist Church. Burial will be private.

PAMELA WHITAKER

SIX MILE — Pamela Diane Couch Whitaker, 55, passed away on Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, at Cannon Memorial Hospital.

A native of Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Albert Couch Sr. and the late Patsy Ann Finley Couch. Pamela was a homemaker and loved the great rivers of Pickens County and growing beautiful flowers. She was a member of Gap Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are four children, Megan Molina of Six Mile, Addison Grace Medina (Anibal) of Easley, Tammy Velencia of Six Mile and Thomas Wheeler of Six Mile; four brothers, Devo Couch (Tasha) of Six Mile, James Randall Couch of Pickens, Isaac Eugene Couch of Six Mile and Albert Couch Jr. (Angie) of Pendleton; a sister, Alicia Stancil (Dale) of Six Mile; and grandchildren, Imelda, Llucidia, Matachi, Irene, Carla and Eduridie “Ernest.”

In addition to her parents, Pamela was predeceased by two sons, Ernest “E.T.” Whitaker and Dustin Whitaker.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at the Gap Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 p.m. Friday at the church, prior to the service.

BECKY EVATT

EASLEY — Mrs. Rebecca “Becky” Davis Evatt, 72, wife of Donald Eugene Evatt Sr., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Oct. 3, 2022.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Jefferson Daniel Davis Sr. and the late Martha Hughes Davis, Mrs. Evatt was a 1968 graduate of Easley High School and later received her associate degree in business from Tri-County Technical College. She was a retired bookkeeper and longtime member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church, since 1966, where she sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school.

Becky loved camping and traveling with the senior citizens of the church, but her greatest love was spending time with her family and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 52 years, are her daughter, Melissa Evatt Cribb (Alan) of Spartanburg; two sisters, Jeanne Davis Gillespie (Ben) and Lynn Davis Powers (Mark), both of Easley; a brother, Ben Davis of Easley; her four grandchildren, Michael Evatt, Hannah Evatt, Boyd Cribb (Emma) and Rebecca Cribb; and her great-grandchild, Kolby Evatt.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Evatt was predeceased by her son, Donald Eugene Evatt Jr.; and a brother, Jeff Davis Jr.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 7 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

MINNIE JANE BEARDEN

PICKENS — Minnie Jane Bearden, 86, wife of the late Larry Bearden, passed away on Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

A native of Pickens County, Mrs. Bearden was born on Sept. 21, 1936, the daughter of the late Lois Geneva Cantrell Davis and Richey Lawrence Davis. She enjoyed crocheting and shopping. Mrs. Bearden loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. She was a member of Blue Ridge View Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Carla Helton (Charlie); three sons, Rick Bearden (Donna), Kirby Bearden (Patricia) and Avery Bearden, all of Pickens; two sisters, Linda Haulter (Eddie) of Easley and Vikki Lesley of Liberty; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Bearden was predeceased by her husband, parents and one brother, Johnny Davis.

Visitation was held on Oct. 11 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Flowers will be accepted.

DANNY STEVEN ‘STEVE’ PATTERSON

 

LIBERTY — Danny Steven “Steve” Patterson, 66, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, at his home.

Mr. Patterson was born in Greenville County on Sept. 27, 1956, the son of Cecil Smith Patterson and the late Donald Kenneth Patterson Sr. Steve was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Army National Guard. He enjoyed history (war history in particular), reading and doing the Sunday crossword puzzle.

Survivors include his mother, Cecil Smith Patterson of the home; his siblings, Michael Patterson (Vickie) of Easley, Leland Patterson (Leea) of Liberty and Donnie Patterson (E’Lisha) of Liberty; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Mr. Patterson was predeceased by a brother, Phillip Patterson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 13, in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home in Pickens from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with the burial taking place at 2 p.m. at M.J “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson.

Memorial donations in Steve’s honor may be made to Patriot Hospice.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses from Patriot Hospice for their kindness and compassion.

DUDLEY WADE FLOYD

 

SUNSET — Dudley Wade Floyd, 75, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, at his home.

A native of Headland, Ala., Dudley was born on July 13, 1947, the son of the late Roscoe and Nelle Floyd. Mr. Floyd attended New Hope Baptist Church in Pumpkintown. He retired from the city of Greenville as a code enforcement officer, receiving several awards for his service. He also served in the Alabama National Guard. Dudley enjoyed hunting, fishing, Alabama football, sitting and spending time with his friends at Holly Springs Country Store and Masters Grocery “Coffee Gang,” and spending time at the “Buzzards Roost.”

Survivors include Robin Floyd; his children, Kari Dawkins (Bryan) of Slocomb, Ala., Blythe Seeton of Sunset and Brett Floyd (Makayla) of Pickens; grandchildren, Reid Dawkins, Olivia Dawkins and Emma Seeton; great-granddaughter, Cora Leigh; sister, Wanda Aman (Roy) of Ashford, Ala.; nieces, Amy Balkcom (Kris), Lori Beasley (Ashley) and Deanna Sowell (Jared); great-nieces, Elizabeth Folger and Olivia Sowell; and great-nephews, Tanner Folger, Parker Beasley and Jace Sowell.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Floyd was predeceased by his brother, Jimmy Floyd.

The family hosted a celebration of life service on Saturday, Oct. 8, on the Eastatoe River at 1299 Cleo Chapman Highway in Sunset.
