ROGER JOHN LINDSAY

PICKENS — Mr. Roger John Lindsay, 82, loving husband of Judy Lindsay, passed away peacefully on Nov. 12, 2022, at his residence.

Roger was born in Spartanburg, on Feb. 23, 1940, to the late John and Vivian Caldwell Lindsay. In the 1950s, he held the South Carolina state high jump record for 10 years. Roger graduated from the University of South Carolina and then proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and the National Guard. He was most known for his love of the outdoors, especially bow hunting and hiking. Roger had an artistic fascination with primitive weapons and tools, which continued throughout his life. He loved to go out and find arrowheads and then began to produce detailed re-creations of these tools, which were meticulously researched as he strove for authenticity and understanding. Due to his research, this led to his being considered an expert of the local primitive culture. Roger was a project manager at McGowan Paint Company and later founded Catawba Coatings. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pickens.

In addition to his loving wife, Roger is survived by his sons, Kevin Lindsay (Eve) and Craig Leopard (Liesl); a daughter, Leah Belle (Larry); a sister, Marsha Reid; and a niece, Lindsay Faistl (John). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ian Belle (Jennie), Adam Belle (Sarah), Theodore Lindsay, Nathaniel Lindsay, Colton Leopard, Justin Leopard and Bailey Leopard; and his great-grandchildren, Simon Belle, Juniper Belle, Ezra Belle and Thaddeus Belle.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by one daughter, Shannon Lindsay.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Grace United Methodist Church in Pickens.

The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 a.m., on Saturday, prior to the service, at the church.

The family members are at their respective homes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Parkinson’s Society, Missions at Grace United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.

ROGER CONRAD FENNELL

EASLEY — Mr. Roger Conrad Fennell, 84, husband of Peggy Powell Fennell and the late Louise Sloan Fennell, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022.

Born in Pickens County, the son of the late Lee Roy Fennell and the late Frances Thompson Fennell, Mr. Fennell was a graduate of Clinton High School, retired from Rental Uniform Service, Greenville, and later worked in security for the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. Roger was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War, and was a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church.

Roger was an avid sports fan and had a love for the Clemson Tigers and Atlanta Braves. He also loved traveling, the beach, country music and his church. He will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew him.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his daughter, Sherri D. Thompson (Jeff) of Greer; his sister, Janice F. Whitehead of Asheville, N.C.;  stepsons, Stanley Thompson (Dianne) of Liberty, Barry Thompson of Easley and Michael Thompson (Tammy) of Seneca; stepgrandson, Justin Thompson (Kourtney) of Winnabow, N.C.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with Rev. Thomas Sloan officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

EDNA BLACK

EASLEY — Edna Pauline Bearden Black, 87, of Louns Drive, died on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022, at her residence.

Born in Liberty, she was the widow of Homer R. Black and a daughter of the late Cole and Minnie Moore Bearden. Mrs. Black was a homemaker and enjoyed helping others. She loved spending time with her family and was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are her three daughters, Carol Bigham (Tony) of Liberty, Judy Reece (Junior) of Liberty and Sheila Crane of Easley; two sons, Johnny Black (Susan) and Homer Ray Taylor (Gorda), both of Liberty; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Merck; three sisters, Rosie Lyda, Helen Samples and Donna Marie; and two brothers, James and Pete Bearden.

The family will be gathering at the home of her daughter, Carol Bigham, 227 Odell Road, Liberty.

NELLENNE L. ERNEST

PICKENS — Nellenne L. Ernest, 89, loving wife of the late James Davis Ernest Sr., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

A native of Newberry County, Nellenne was born on Jan. 19, 1933, to the late Elizah Martin and Minnie Estelle Lackey. She was a graduate of Southern Wesleyan University in Central. Nellenne was a member of Gilead Baptist Church in Pickens, and she enjoyed traveling and church activities.

Survivors include her children, Terry Ernest (Alice) of Simpsonville and Jimmy Ernest of Pickens, and her grandchildren, Jared Beal, Bethany Shoup, Nathan Ernest and Johnathan Ernest.

Mrs. Ernest was predeceased by her parents and her husband.

The family will host a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at Gilead Baptist Church, located at 403 E. Jones Ave. in Pickens.

CRIMSEN DAWN CRYMES

PICKENS — Crimsen Dawn Crymes, 47, loving wife of 29 years to Richard J. Crymes, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Crimsen was born on March 14, 1975, in Greenville County. She attended Tri-County Technical College for nursing. Crimsen loved her daughter, her dogs, racing, going to the beach and making a fashion statement.

Crimsen is survived by her loving husband, Richard J. Crymes of the home; her daughter, Peyton Crymes, who was the love of her life; as well as many other family members and friends.

The family has requested potted plants as a memorial of Crimsen.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

CARL BROOKS

SIX MILE — Carl Brooks, 84, loving husband of 60 years to Shelba Brooks, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born on Oct. 30, 1938, in Greenville, Carl was the son of the late Sam and Grace Brooks. Mr. Brooks was a member and former deacon of Camp Creek Baptist Church in Central and involved in the Awana children’s ministry. He was a manager at BI-LO supermarket for more than 30 years. He enjoyed Clemson football, going to the beach and fishing. He loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Shelba Brooks of the home; his children, Darla Ramey (Allen) of Liberty and Troy Brooks (Marcey) of Liberty; grandchildren, LeAnna Corley, Luke Ramey and Willow Brooks; great-grandchildren, Claire, Nolan, Isaac and Sadie; and a brother, Tim Brooks (Janet).

In addition to his parents, Mr. Brooks was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Brooks.

A memorial service was held on Nov. 11 in the sanctuary of Camp Creek Baptist Church.

Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to Camp Creek Baptist Church.

ANTHONY BENJAMIN  ‘BEN’ NABORS

EASLEY — Anthony Benjamin “Ben” Nabors, 50, of Easley, born June 1, 1972, went to final rest on Monday, Nov. 7, 2022, at his home.

Ben, a graduate of Easley High School, class of 1990, pursued a career in computer science in Atlanta, Ga., and Austin, Texas.

Ben was a dedicated friend and positive influence on the lives of many. Ben excelled not only at his career, but also in his hobbies — Renaissance faires, culinary arts, HAM radio and learning new languages.

Ben’s Jewish faith helped guide him through many life decisions. He was an unbelievable fighter and survivor, and such a kind, gentle and incredibly intelligent soul.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Patsy and Gary Finley of Easley; sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Mike Whitlock of Sunset; and four nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He will be deeply missed by many.

Mr. Nabors will be interred at Ramsey Creek Preserve in Westminster, with a private gathering.

GEORGE WESLEY RAMPEY SR.

PICKENS — George Wesley Rampey Sr., 82, husband of the late Sarah Jones Rampey, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, at The Woodlands at Furman.

A native of Pickens County, George was born on Feb. 17, 1940, to the late Joe and Maggie Rampey. George was a graduate of D.W. Daniel High School and retired from Michelin. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Easley and loved being outdoors and camping.

Mr. Rampey is survived by his children, Malinda Pressley (Steven) of Seneca and Wesley Rampey of Six Mile; his grandchildren, Kendell Rampey (Katie) and Christopher Rampey; his great-grandchildren, Jovie Rampey and Easton Rampey; his siblings, Lewis Rampey, Jerry Rampey and Nancy Heaton; a special friend, Genny Hendricks, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Sarah Jones Rampey, George was predeceased by his parents; a granddaughter, Stefanie Pressley; and four siblings.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Rampey’s honor to the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church building fund, located at 101 Pisgah Road, Easley, SC 29642.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 2 p.m.

TINA KOKAY

SIX MILE — Tina Renae Kokay, 52, died on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born in Pickens, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Ransome Reed.

She was a 1988 graduate of D.W. Daniel High School and was employed with Sealed Air (formerly Cryovac) for 30 years.

Tina loved to read, bake for her friends at work and sit on the beach. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family.

Surviving are her husband, Gary Kokay of the home; her mother, Louise Black (Troy) of Central; two sons, Trent Kokay of York and Garrett Kokay of Charleston; two sisters, Angela Eppes (Mike) of Townville, and Amanda Nichols (Shane) of Central; a brother, Tim Reed (Amber) of Six Mile; four nieces, Ashley Owens, Lindsey Owens, Shea Nichols and Bristol Reed; and three nephews, T.J. Reed, Peyton Reed and Landon Eppes.

Memorial services to honor Tina’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at Gap Hill Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Liberty Mortuary.

APRIL NICHOLE HOLDER

ANDERSON — April Nichole Holder, 38, passed away on Nov. 9, 2022.

April was a loving wife, mother, daughter, aunt, granddaughter and sister.

April is survived by her husband, Josh; her five children, Angel, Jasmine, Anthony, Jazmyn and Jacklyn; her parents, mother, Angela Hamilton (Wayne) and fathers, Lonnie Holder and Michael Nix; as well as her maternal grandmother, Francis Harris, and her paternal grandmother, Arlene Curl. She was an amazing sister to Chad (Austin), Ashley (Karen), Tonya (Jason) and Emma (Robert). She has several nieces and nephews, including CJ of the home, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

April was predeceased by her younger sister, Haley.

She was loved by many and dedicated her life to her kids and to her career as a CNA for more than 20 years. April will always be remembered by her family as a fun, Halloween-loving angel. She will be deeply missed.

The family will be at the home in Anderson.
