FAY HOLLIDAY

PICKENS — Chloe “Fay” Chastain Holliday, 91, died on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at home.

Mrs. Holliday was born on Jan. 23, 1932, in Pickens County, a daughter of the late Arthur “Milton” and Chloe Annie Townes Chastain. She was a 1949 graduate of Easley High School and worked over 13 years in the office of Stone’s Manufacturing Company in the Cherrydale area of Greenville. Mrs. Holliday was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church for 78 years.

Mrs. Holliday is survived by a daughter, Vonda Fay Holliday of the home; and a brother, Harold Chastain (Frances) of Easley.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holliday was predeceased by her husband of 51 years (July 6, 1963), Kenneth Cecil Holliday.

Vonda would like to express many special thanks to the members of Holly Springs Baptist Church, family, friends and neighbors for the unselfish way they gave of themselves in the many acts of kindness toward her Mama. May God richly bless each of you for the Christian love you have so greatly shown.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Holly Springs Baptist Church, with Rev. Barry Dilworth and Rev. Gerald Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.

ALBERT THOMAS BEELOW

PICKENS — Albert Thomas Beelow passed into eternal life at his home on March 8, 2023.

Al was a great family man and loved them all greatly.

Mr. Beelow is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 60 years, Mary Jane Beelow; two daughters, Deborah Beelow (Eric Eckelman) and Susan Beelow Kent (Jim); and two sons, Jim Beelow (Mary) and Terry Beelow. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Al’s passion for woodworking was only surpassed by his passion for his family, and he was a former insurance agent with Prudential. He still worked part-time for H&R Block in Travelers Rest and was a very active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pickens, serving on many committees.

Mr. Beelow was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Otto and Camella DeFranco Beelow.

The family received friends on March 18 in the Fellowship Hall at Grace United Methodist Church. A celebration of life followed the visitation in the sanctuary.

ALLISON S. SWEEZY

EASLEY — Allison Swartz Sweezy, 54, beloved wife of Andrew Bishop Sweezy, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at her home.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of Jeanene Petty Swartz of Landrum and the late Larry Robert Swartz.

Allison was a homemaker and attended Five Point Church in Easley. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. She also had a special place in her heart for the homeless and in her early years enjoyed bodybuilding.

In addition to her husband of 12 years and mother, she is survived by her children, Jessica Swartz Holmes of Tryon, N.C., Reagan Quinn of the home and Josh Gosnell of Nashville, Tenn.; and a sister, Aimee Johnson of Hendersonville, N.C.

A service to celebrate Allison’s life will be at 2 p.m. March 25 at her home, 301 Red Oak Court, Easley, SC 29640.

HAROLD FREEMAN

NEWBERRY, N.C. — Mr. Harold Freeman, 83, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023, at his home.

Harold was born in Oconee County on Sept. 12, 1939, to the late Raymond and Bessie Moore Freeman. He was a kind, sweet and compassionate man who would help anyone in need. As a child, he enjoyed fishing with his brothers, and that continued into his adulthood when he would share those experiences with his grandchildren. Harold enjoyed going to jockey lots, where he would search for antique collectibles. He liked gardening, especially vegetables, and cheering on the Clemson Tigers during football and baseball season. Harold was a devout Christian and a member of Northside Baptist Church and would never miss an opportunity to tell others about how Jesus changed his life. Above all else, he loved his family and spending time with them.

Harold is survived by one daughter, Donna Cantrell; two granddaughters, Kelly Long (William) and Mandy Barriger; two great-grandchildren, Hunter Long and Faith Long; and five siblings, Wayne Freeman, Evelyn Nelson, Patsy Austin, Judy Boggs and Joan Grant.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy Freeman; and five siblings, Sara Fincannon, Carl Freeman, William “Bub” Freeman, Roy Freeman and Bobby Joe Freeman.

A graveside service will be announced at a later date.

LELAND ‘JOHNNY’ EDGAR CLARK

 

PICKENS — Leland “Johnny” Edgar Clark, 99, died Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Manna Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

Johnny was born in Pickens on Feb. 17, 1924 to the late Oscar and Lois Mae Childs Clark. He retired from the Singer Company. Mr. Clark enjoyed being outside, fishing, hunting, photography and landscaping. He proudly served in the United States Army in World War II.

Mr. Clark is survived by two grandchildren, Kim Ketusky (Edward) and Randy Hughes (Kelly); and five great-grandchildren, Jonathan Ketusky (Molly), Matthew Ketusky, Sam Hughes, Kate Hughes and Anna Hughes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret M. Clark; one daughter, Barbara Clark Hughes; and one sister, Melonee Clark Bagwell.

Graveside services will be held at noon Friday, March 24, at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

The family would like to say special thanks to Harrison Meece and Johnny Golden for their incredible help and support over the last few years that allowed Mr. Clark to remain in his home.

PATRICIA A. LADD

Easley — Ms. Patricia A. Ladd, 78, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023.

Patricia was born on May 24, 1944, in Greenville to the late Walter and Frances Blair Bailey Ellenburg. She was a kind, loving woman who never met a stranger and loved talking to people. Above all else, Patricia loved her family and her family deeply loved her.

Patricia is survived by two sons, Scott Ladd and David Ladd (Sherie); one grandchild, Dakota Ladd; two sisters, Deborah Day (Ron) and Sandra Wise; and two brothers, Danny Ellenburg (Diane) and Bruce Ellenburg (Rhonda).

In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by one grandchild, Amber Ladd.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 a.m., prior to the service.

CLYDE ‘ALEX’ EDGE

 

EASLEY — Mr. Clyde “Alex” Edge, 70, cherished husband of Cheryl Lesley Edge, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 13, 2023.

Alex was born in Columbia, on Feb., 24, 1953, to the late Burton and Dorothy Edge. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a graduate of J.L. Mann High School and Greenville Tech.

Alex is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Cheryl Lesley Edge; four siblings, Jim Edge (Laura), Hazel Blanken, Michael Edge (Donna) and Jeannie Hedrick (Alan); brother-in-law: Randy Lesley (Becky); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Alex was preceded in death by two siblings, Roy Edge and Bobbie Morris.

Funeral services to honor and remember his life were conducted on March 17 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Entombment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

SYBLE S. SHELTON

EASLEY — Syble Stephens Shelton, 91, wife of the late John T. Shelton, passed away on March 18, 2023.

Born in Pickens County, she was a daughter of the late Matthew and Selda Gantt Stephens.

She attended Dacusville High School and had worked as a dietary food manager at Oakmont Nursing Center. She attended Jones Hill Church of God.

Mrs. Syble was feisty, sweet, determined and absolutely loved people. She loved the Atlanta Braves, played basketball while she was in high school, crocheted and loved to do crossword puzzles. She loved the outdoors, going to the beach, fishing and cooking.

Mrs. Syble is survived by her daughters, Connie Emory (Steve) of Dacusville and Kathy Cisson (Barry) of Greenville; grandchildren, Kelli Lollis, Justin Emory (Amanda), Kasey Wilson and Shelton Cisson (Mackenzie); and great-grandchildren, Karsen Lollis, Daisy Emory, Cam Wilson, Kolbi Wilson and Covington Cisson.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Syble was preceded in death by a grandson-in-law, Tommy Wilson; sisters, Lavada Holloway and Louise Talley; and brothers, Don and Bill Stephens.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-noon Wednesday, March 22, at Robinson Funeral Home – Downtown, Easley. A graveside service will follow the receiving at 12:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

JACK W. ADDINGTON SR.

EASLEY — Jack W. Addington Sr., 88, loving husband of 66 years to the late Mary Addington, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.

A native of Pickens County, Jack was born on Jan. 17, 1935, to the late L.T. Addington and Grace Addington. Mr. Addington served in the U.S Army National Guard and was a Mason. He retired from the insurance industry after 37 years of employment. Jack was known as the neighborhood Papa. He enjoyed fishing and going to the flea market and jockey lots.

Survivors include his children, Jack Addington II (Kimberly) of Easley, Andy Addington (Laurie) of Central and Taletha Addington of Easley; grandchildren, Freddy, Dusty, Jamey, Eric, Jessica, Jacquelyn, Zoe, Drew and Landon; a great-grandchild, Nick; and a sister, Betty Raines.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Addington was predeceased by his daughter, Teresa Addington Jordan; brothers, James T. Addington, Robert L. Addington and Joe A. Addington; and a sister, Evelyn Addington Henson.

Visitation was held on March 21 in the chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home, with a memorial service following.

JOSEPH WARD SCHINTZIUS SR.

Easley — Joseph Ward Schintzius Sr., 85, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023.

Ward was born on March 4, 1938 in Buffalo, N.Y., to the late Chester and Barbara Ward Schintzius and was one of 11 siblings. He was a kind man who never met a stranger. Ward had a wonderful sense of humor and was a practical jokester, something that he passed on to his children. He was a volunteer firefighter and fire chief in New York and was a youth director for 25 years at his church in Georgia. Ward loved to collect trains. Above all else, Ward loved and cherished his family and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Mr. Schintzius is survived by his loving wife of almost 64 years, Terese M. Schintzius; six children, Joseph (Gloria), Robert (Theresa), Philip, Charles (Angela), Brian and Ann (Krista); 10 grandchildren; and seven siblings.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at St. Andrews Catholic Church, 209 Sloan St., Clemson, SC 29631.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Dillard Funeral Home.

LARRY BREWER

EASLEY — Larry Richard Brewer, 76, of Robbie Court, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Walhalla, he was the widower of Mildred Louise Holder Brewer and a son of the late Richard and Louise King Brewer. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Brewer was a longtime member of Flat Rock Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Greg Brewer Sr. (Rene’) of Easley; two daughters, Teresa Cook (Henry) of Easley and Kim Wilson (Shane) of Easley; two sisters, Margaret and Janice; two brothers, Raymond and Bud; six grandchildren, Greg Brewer Jr., Jonathan Brewer, Timothy Brewer, Christopher Turner, Michael Chapman and Lauren Harvey; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ashley Brewer; and a great-granddaughter, Ada.

Mary Ruth McAlister

Easley — Mrs. Mary Ruth Crane McAlister, 91, wife of the late Luther Aiken and the late Lucius Earl McAlister, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023.

Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late J.D. Crane and the late Sophie Arnold Crane, Mrs. McAlister retired from Singer and was of the Baptist faith.

Ruth was a hardworking wife and mother who loved her family dearly. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.

Surviving are her six sons, Jerry Aiken, Larry Aiken, Roger Dale Aiken, Lucius McAlister Jr., Steve McAlister and Stacy McAlister; six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands and parents, Mrs. McAlister was predeceased by numerous brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 23, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in the Cross Roads Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
