SDPC offering free summer meals
COUNTY — Do you know a child in need of meals during the summer?
Through its Summer Food Service Program, the School District of Pickens County will once again offer free, healthy meals to Pickens County children who are 18 and younger.
Free breakfast and lunch will be served at Pickens Elementary, West End Elementary, and Central Elementary, Monday through Friday from June 13 through August 9. The program will be closed July 4 in recognition of Independence Day.
The program provides children in Pickens County the foods they need to continue to learn, play and grow when school is out for the summer.
Breakfast will be served from 7-8 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Pickens Elementary is located at 567 Hampton Avenue in Pickens, West End Elementary is located at 314 Pelzer Highway in Easley and Central Elementary is located at 608 Johnson Road in Central.
Non-profit organizations interested in participating must complete an application and have at least one person from the organization attend a mandatory orientation at Student Nutrition Services, located at 1400 Griffin Mill Road (formerly the BJ Skelton Career Center).
The Summer Food Service Program is federally funded by the USDA and administered through the South Carolina Department of Education and the School District of Pickens County. For more information, contact Sally Nicholson at 864-397-1166.
