Martha McGaha

Pickens — Martha Chambers McGaha, 90, widow of Lem Carmel McGaha, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013.

Mrs. MaGaha was born in Anderson County a daughter of the late John and Lou Holcombe Chambers. She was formerly employed as a nurse’s aide at Harvey’s Love and Care Home in Six Mile. She was a member of Wayside Baptist Church and attended Morningstar Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Ann Goodwin (Sammy) of Pickens and Rebecca Burrell (James) of Liberty, and sons Floyd McGaha (Hazel) and Johnny McGaha (Cheryl) all of Pickens and Marshall McGaha of Greenville. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Friday, June 7 at Wayside Baptist Church. Burial followed at Red Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Tommy Garner

Easley — Thomas Joseph “Tommy” Garner, died peacefully on Monday, June 17, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Anderson he was a son of the late Andrew and Myrtle Lou Anthony Garner. He was a 1958 graduate of Easley High School. He worked for C&S Wholesale in Mauldin and after retirement worked part time for Liberty Mortuary. Tommy was an avid sports fan, and loved to pull for his Carolina Gamecocks. He attended Grace Christian Fellowship in Dacusville.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Nealey Garner, of the home; two daughters, Loretta Garner of Easley, and Rita Burgess and her husband Greg of Easley; a son, Joey Garner and his wife Trish of Easley; two sisters, Sarah Rice of Easley, and Ruth Mosley of Six Mile; two brothers, Arthur Garner of Easley, and Robert Garner of Hendersonville, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Nicole Childress (Gregorio), Matt Childress (Cassandra), Roman Farmer (Brittany), Megan Burgess, Trevor and T.J. Garner, Caleb Gravley, and Emily Garner; three great grandchildren, Monica Guzman, Rose Childress, and Gracen Garner.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Gregory Burgess.

Funeral services to honor Tommy’s life were 2 p.m. Friday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery.

Coy Adams

 Liberty — Coy Adams, 76, of Oak Brook Drive, husband of the late Barbara Ann Lowry Adams, died Sunday, June 16, 2013 at his residence.

Born in Harlan, Ky., a son of the late Sydney and Jessie Elm Adams, Mr. Adams retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service where he served in Korea and Vietnam and later worked with Marshall Williams in Greenville.  He was a member of the Church of Christ and also a member of the FRA.

Surviving are a son, Robert Adams and wife, Brenda, of Taylors; a daughter, Sylvia Ann Menard and husband, Jerry, of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Eddie Adams; two sisters, Virginia Lawrence and Barbara Bush; and grandchildren, Amber Adams, Heidi Menard and Hahns Menard.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Adams was predeceased by a son, Coy Lee Adams.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Ruthell Cape

Easley — Martha Ruthell Epps Cape, 89, of Easley, wife of the late Lonnie E. Cape, died Sunday, June 16, 2013 in Huntsville, Ala.

Born in Pickens County, the daughter of the late Frank and Bertie Mahaffey Epps, Mrs. Cape retired from the Glenwood Plant of Mayfair Mills and was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, James W. Cape and wife, Adelaide, of Huntsville, Ala., and Stanley Cape of Easley; four grandchildren, Lucia Cape and Christopher Cape of Huntsville, Ala., Karen Matheney of Madison, Ala. and Aaron Cape of Asheville, N.C.; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday at Pendleton Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Zach Shaw, the Rev. Scott Willis and the Rev. Keith Davis officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Pendleton Street Baptist Church, 601 South Pendleton Street, Easley, SC 29640.

Mark Lewis

Durham, N.C. — Jerry Mark Lewis, 58 of Durham, N.C. and formerly of Pickens, died Monday, June 17, 2013 at his home.

Mark was born in Pickens County a son of the late Edwin Carlyle and Mildred Grant Lewis. He was a graduate of Pickens High School, class of 1973 and from Clemson University, class of 1977, with a BA in English. Mark was recently employed as a warehouse associate with UPS and prior to this was a control supervisor with PBM in Durham.

Survivors include his companion of 18 years, Clay Francis of the home, brothers, Ron Lewis (Joy) of Summerton, and Sid Lewis (Jane) of Pickens and a sister, Ann Hall (Bill) of Seneca, nieces and nephews, Kevin Lewis, (Jill), Brittany Lewis, Annelise Martens (Matthew), Alexandra Lewis and her fiancé, Thomas Ralston, Lauran Henderson (Josh), Sarah Hamby, and Ross Hamby and great nieces and nephews, Brodey Lewis, Kase Lewis, and Annie Carlyle Martens. Surviving also is Clay’s sister, Susie Braswell and her daughters, Ashley Braswell and Kelly Ligdon (Lanny). Mark is also survived by his furry children, Luther and Hank.

Funeral services were 12 p.m. Thursday, June 20 in the chapel at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens with the Rev. Dick Waldrep officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Ethel Mae Ferguson Crumpton

Pickens — Ethel Mae Ferguson Crumpton, age 90, wife of the late Lucius Casey Crumpton, died Wednesday June 19, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Crumpton was born in Pickens County a daughter of the late Lyda Ethel Anthony and John Butler Ferguson. Mrs. Crumpton was a member of Griffin Baptist Church. Special thanks to her caregiver Ann Owens.

Survivors include two sons; John C. Crumpton, wife Ressie of Dacusville, Thomas A. Crumpton of Pickens, fiancé Jean Hayes of Easley one sister; Evie Schrick of Pickens, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Crumpton was predeceased by husband, parents, one son; David William Crumpton, three sisters; Lois Jones, Viola Evatt, Louise Hayes, two brothers; J.B. Ferguson, John Robert Ferguson, one daughter in-law Misako T. Crumpton.

Funeral service was Friday, June 21 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Harold Taylor

Central — James Harold Taylor, 69, of 880 Robinson Bridge Road, died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Majesty Health & Rehab.

Born in Salem he was a son of the late Jack and Sallie Hawkins Taylor. He retired from E.C.P. and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. During his free time he loved to compose family albums with all his special memories.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Chapman Taylor of the home; two sons, Preacher Mark Taylor and his wife Jennifer, and Brian Taylor all of Central; a sister, Faye Wilson of Central; a brother, Jimmy Taylor of Central; three grandchildren, Jason, Christy and Haleigh Taylor.

Funeral services to honor Harold’s life were 1 p.m. Saturday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

Blanche B. Hannah

Pickens — Blanche Burgess Hannah, 91, widow of Willie “Bill” Hannah of Pickens, died, Wednesday, June 19, 2013.

Mrs. Hannah was born in Jocassee, a daughter of the late Joe and Maude Wigington Burgess. She was formerly employed with Ryobi in Pickens and was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Hannah was a member of Fort Prince George Chapter of DAR.

Survivors include sons, William Harrison “Harry” Hannah (Rachel) of Whiteville, N.C., and Ray M. Hannah of Westminster, Calif., daughters, Mildred H. Brewer of Liberty, Dottie H. Aultman (Bob) of Pickens and Martha H. McGuffin (Steve) of Westminster, and a daughter-in-law, Carol Hannah of Pickens. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren and sisters, Gerone Carnes of Greenville, and Hilda Cooper of Simpsonville and a special friend, Laura Hinds of Pickens.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hannah was preceded in death by a son, Joe Frank Hannah, brothers, Broadus Burgess, James Burgess, and Warren “Dub” Burgess, and sisters, Evelyn Schaler, Olene Towe, and Mildred Cantrell.

Funeral services were conducted 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Shirley Kolp

Easley — Shirley Scoles Kolp, 92, wife of the late John Seborn Kolp, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Countryside Village.

Born in Harrisburg, a daughter of the late Gilman and Clara Kepple Scoles, Mrs. Kolp was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Suzanne Evans of Seneca, Barbara Wallbaum of San Diego, Calif., and Nancy Biewen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son, John Kolp of South Amana, Iowa; and a sister, Bonnie Hardi of San Diego, Calif.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

Shirley Ann Jenkins

Easley — Shirley Ann Pearson Jenkins, 77, wife of James B. Jenkins of Easley, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013.

Shirley was born in Greenville, a daughter of the late William Casper “Cas” Pearson and the late Corrie Sanders Pearson. She was retired from Allstate Insurance Company following 20 years service. Shirley was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, served in the W.M.U. and Choir.

Survivors include her husband, James, of the home, son, Blake Jenkins (Ann) of Easley and daughter, Leigh Ann Revis (Mike) of Easley, and grandchildren, Joey Revis and Anna Revis. Also surviving are brothers, Joe Pearson of Pelzer and Jerry Pearson of Georgia.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amanda Revis.

Perrin Tilman Freeman

Easley — Mr. Perrin Tilman “Til” Freeman, 61, husband of Debbie Edens Freeman, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Greenville County, a son of Thomas Henry Freeman and the late Adelene Long Freeman, Mr. Freeman retired as a heavy equipment operator from Down to Earth Grading and attended River of Life Tabernacle.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four daughters, Courtney Freeman, Jamii King, Ashley Freeman, and Kayla Freeman; two brothers, Craig and Timothy Freeman; eight sisters, Lynn Woods, Pam Rollins, Beverly Callaham, Tommie Blankenship, Jennifer Drake, Janice Watson, Karen Heath, and Kimberly Robertson; six grandchildren, Michael and Chelsea Mattison, Jalea Tarrance, Alexis and Amber King, and Kallie Rackley; and one great-grandchild, Kamyie Taylor.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Freeman was predeceased by a brother, Steve Freeman.

Dianne Goss

Liberty — Dianne Bailey Goss, 65, of 150 Flat Rock Church Road, died on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Toccoa, Ga. she was a daughter of the late Rev. Perry and Mary Etta Richardson Bailey. She retired after 27 years of teaching, and was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church in Seneca. During her retirement her greatest joy was spending time with her family & grandchildren. She was also very active at the church with children ministries.

Surviving are her husband, the Rev. Doug Goss of the home; two sons, Scott Goss of Liberty, and Stephen Goss and his wife Heather of Liberty; a brother, David Bailey and his wife Jean of Toccoa, Ga.; four grandchildren, Bailey, Madison, Ann-Elise, and McKinley.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Goss were 3 p.m. Sunday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jean S. Breazeale

Pickens — Shelby Jean Simmons Breazeale, 73, wife of David Roger Breazeale, died Thursday, June 20, 2013.

Jean was born in Greenville County, a daughter of the late Isham Elijah and Iola Epps Simmons. She was retired from Sangamo Electric. Jean was a member of Northside Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and the Ila Holcombe Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, David Roger Breazeale of the home, daughter, Cheryl Breazeale Hayes (Mike) of Pickens, grandchildren, Shane Hayes (Amanda), Michelle Gareri (Corey), and Elijah Hayes, and great granddaughter, Mattie Grace Hayes. Also surviving are sisters, Irene Holton and Merle Mason both of Pickens and a brother, Jerry Simmons (Jane) of Simpsonville.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her son, George Scott Breazeale and sister, Pearl Lewis.

Funeral services were 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22 in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.

Liberty — Sean Michael Segal, 40, of 2 Peachtree Street, died Thursday.

Born in Tucson, Ariz., a son of Mary Green Mechum of Hoover, Ala.L and the late Lawrence Lage, Sean was employed with Domino’s in Easley and was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a son, Dylan Segal; two daughters, Hannah and Kieran Segal, all of the home; the mother of his children, Stephanie Fox, of the home; a brother, Andrew Mechum of Hoover, Ala.; a sister, Madeline Mechum of Hoover, Ala. and his step-father, Murray Mechum of Hoover, Ala.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mason Earl Hitt

Pickens — Mason Earl Hitt, two month old infant son of Earl Wayne Hitt and Sheena Savannah Spoon of 116 Patio Drive died Friday, June 21, 2013 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens.

He was born in Greenville.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two sisters, Robin Hitt of Anderson and Savannah Hitt of the home; two brothers, Gage Spoon and Eli Hitt of the home; maternal grandmother, Patricia Malina of Easley; paternal grandmother, Polly Cole of Easley; great grandparents, Geraldine McCall of Easley and Bob Spoon of Greenville; uncles, Mark Summerall and Ellis Cole; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services for Mason were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Roanoke Baptist Church Cemetery.

Andrew Madison Mattison-Turner

Anderson — Andrew Madison Mattison-Turner, infant son of April Renee Gibson and Hyram Pierre Rashad Mattison, died Friday at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers, Jaiden Bentlee Mattison and Darius Tayshaun Oglesby both of Anderson; maternal grandparent, Jeffery Lee Gibson of Liberty; step grandparent, Dana Gibson, wife of Jeffery Gibson; maternal great grandparent, Jimmy Gibson; paternal grandparents, Joeleine Brownlee of Anderson and Hyram Willie Blackwell of Atlanta; step grandparent Samantha Blackwell, wife of Hyram Blackwell; paternal great grandparents, Joe Timothy and Mammie Anne Mattison of Anderson; an uncle, Jeffery Paul Gibson of Liberty; and many members of the Turner family who have always remained dear to the hearts of his parents.

Mildred P. Evatt

Easley ­— Our beloved mother, Mildred Pierce Evatt died June 20, 2013.

She was married for 62 years to the late Samuel Evatt, and resided for the last few years at NHC of Greenville during a declining period of health. She was formerly of Summit Drive in Easley. Mrs. Evatt was of the Church of God of Prophecy faith and was a former health care worker. She was a devoted wife and mother. We shall cherish our memories of her all the days of our lives and she will be greatly missed.

Mildred is survived by her sons, Frank Evatt (Elaine) and Morris Evatt (Sandra); also by her grandsons, Brian (Sherry), Russell (Angie), Jeremy (Heather), Dustin, Chad, and Parker Evatt; granddaughters, Michelle Trusty (Joe) and Nicole Strange (Jebe). She is also survived by nine great-grand children.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 23 at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
