Flora Elizabeth Aiken Ross
Rocky Bottom — Mrs. Flora Elizabeth Aiken Ross, widow of the late William A. “Gus” Ross, died on July 23, 2013, after several years of declining health.
Mrs. Ross was born Jan. 3, 1923, in Rocky Bottom, and was raised by her mother, Myra Ellen Aiken, in the home of her grandparents, Waymon and Elizabeth Aiken. She lived in her beloved Rocky Bottom her entire life, working at the former 4-H Camp when she was younger and then raising her children and keeping her home in later years. She was a charter member of Rocky Bottom Baptist Church and served as church clerk for over 40 years. She was also part of the Rocky Bottom Trio with her husband, Gus, and daughter, Sandra, and loved to sing for the Lord, a trait she passed down to her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Ross contributed the “Rocky Bottom News” to local papers for decades and was affectionately regarded as “Mrs. Mayor” by the citizens of Rocky Bottom because of her love for her community. Her wonderful neighbors and friends of Rocky Bottom loved her in return and cared for her as well, which is why Mrs. Ross was able to live there independently until the age of 88. Mrs. Ross is survived by her children: Gussie LaVaughn Ross (John Zuccaro) of Stone Mountain, Ga.; Roy Ross (Carolyn) of Easley; and Sandra Anderson (Gary) of Pickens, in whose home she resided for the past two years. Mrs. Ross is also survived by six grandchildren: Angela Dalton (Spencer), Shana Dalton (Jason), Jonathan Anderson (Sadie), Alex Simmons (Stacy), Justin Anderson (Katie), and Jessica Anderson; seven great-grandchildren: Storie, Joey, & Chloe Dalton, Kinsley Simmons, and Andy, Evie & Gracey Anderson; and one great-great grandson, Braylon Edwards.
She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Aiken and grandson Jason Roy Ross.
Funeral service for Mrs. Ross was at Rocky Bottom Baptist Church on Friday, July 26, at 2 p.m. with burial in the church cemetery.

Thomas A. Patterson
Pickens — Thomas Arville Patterson, 81, of Hickory Drive died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at his home.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Tilman and Gertha Edney Patterson. Mr. Patterson was retired from The Singer Company in Pickens.
Surviving are his wife of the home, Doris Ramey Patterson; his children, Seaborn Patterson (Sherry) of Madison Heights, Va., April McCall (Tim) of Pisgah Forest, N.C., Leon Patterson (Lily Tucker) of Liberty and Marilyn Patterson of Pickens; six grandchildren, Jennifer McCall (Jim Murgolo), Tracy Guzman, Lee Ann McKinney (Travis), Matthew Patterson (Danielle), Shawn Elrod (Shay), and Austin Elrod (Danielle); six great grandchildren, Sarah and Thomas Rote, Jason and Sammy Guzman, Dimitri Murgolo, and Caelyn Patterson; two sisters, Ovaline Hood of Mountain Rest and Lois Galloway (Luke) of Westminster; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Thomas Lee Patterson; three sisters, Virginia Baldwin, Martha Jean Morgan and Katherine Lusk; and a brother, Sherman Patterson.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 25 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Judith Loftis Ramey
Easley — Judith Loftis Ramey, 78, of 121 Wolf Creek Road, died Sunday, July 28, 2013 at her home.
Born in Greenville County, a daughter of the late Gladys Irene Loftis and the late Wesley Monroe Duncan, Mrs. Ramey was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are her husband, Bobby G. Ramey of the home; a son, Fred M. Ayers of Canterbury, Conn., four daughters, Susan A. Hentz of Pickens, J. Shannlaura Ramey and Yvanne Ramey Taylor, both of Easley and Jackie Ramey Colborn and husband, George, of Liberty; a sister, Barbara Martin of Easley; a step-daughter, Donna Sue Morgan of Pickens; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter on the way.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, prior to the service.
The family is at the residence.

Lucy Eleanor Waldrop Boozer
Pickens — Mrs. Lucy Eleanor Boozer, age 99, born on Sept. 22, 1913, died on July 26, 2013.
Mrs. Boozer is survived by Elizabeth “Betty” Waldrop Dalton and her husband John Smallwood “Jay” Dalton of Pickens; Lucy Eleanor Harward and her husband Eston Dale Harward of Pickens; and Matthew Evans Boozer II and his wife Vivian Ann Boozer of Anderson; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Boozer was predeceased by her husband the Rev. Matthew Evans Boozer and her parents Mr. John W. and Mrs. Willie Linton Maybin Waldrop.
A private graveside service will be held later this week. On Sept. 22, 2013 a memorial service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 309 E. Cedar Rock Street, Pickens SC.

Sandra Jackson
Easley — Mrs. Sandra Nell Garrison Jackson, 68, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at her home.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, to the late John E. and Elenora Goetz Garrison, Sandra was a joyful person that loved finding the positive side of everything in life. She worked as a secretary at the Naval Institute in Maryland for many years until her retirement. Mrs. Jackson enjoyed cooking and also doing crafts, such as making her own jewelry and blankets, and even took up crocheting. Aside from crafts, Sandra loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her pomeranian, Cinnamon. She was of the Lutheran faith.
Surviving are three daughters, Jamie Childress (David “Chilly”) of Easley, Valerie Hall (Roger “Buck”) of Norris, and Jennifer James and her fiancé Garland of Pasadena, Md.; two sisters, Norva Sibley and Doris Gibbs; six grandchildren, Christopher and Rodney Childress, Lana and Jason Miller, and Corey and Catlin Hall; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, a sister; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Childress.
A memorial service was 2 p.m. Friday, July 26 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with the Rev. Scott Willis officiating. Mrs. Jackson’s grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.

Elizabeth “Betty” Walters
Clemson — Elizabeth Guerrant “Betty” Walters, 88, of 104 Hyde Lane and widow of her loving husband, William Deran Walters died, Thursday, July 25, 2013.
Born in Statesville, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Fred and Ola Covey Guerrant. Betty was a former employee with Dan River Mills and Clemson University. She attended Stratford College in Danville, Va. She was a homemaker and a loving wife and mother. Betty was an active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she was in the choir and was a member of the Dolly Brock Circle.
Surviving are daughters, Anne Baldwin of Clemson and Joan Carter (Christopher A.) of Hendersonville, N.C.; grandchildren, Lauren Baldwin, Rachael Hardin, Bryan Hardin, Lauren Carter and Kristen Carter; sister-in-law, Betty Lou Foster of Statesville, N.C.; nieces and nephews, Leslie Davidson and Kathryn Gantt both of Statesville, N.C., Susan Woodard of Charlotte, N.C., and Jack Joyner and Mary R. Taylor both of Weldon, N.C.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Richard Guerrant; and sister, Mary Suiter.
Funeral services were 11 a.m., Monday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Elder officiating.
A graveside committal service was 2 p.m., Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville, N.C.

Mary L. Mitchell
Six Mile — Mary Luck Parks Mitchell died peacefully in her Six Mile home on July 23, 2013.
The daughter of Walter H. and Fleta (Luck) Parks, she was born in Asheboro, N.C., Aug. 28, 1915. She was a graduate of Central Wesleyan College where she met her husband, Virgil Allen Mitchell. They were married in 1937. She spent her life with him as the helpful partner of a pastor and denominational leader of the Wesleyan Church. Mary was a member of the Fort Prince George Chapter of the DAR and a former Regent.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Mitchell Hollingsworth and Martha Mitchell Funnell of Ann Arbor, Mich., grandsons, Alton Allen (Annette) Hollingsworth of Mich. and Adrian Allen (Nga) Funnell of Calif.; two sisters, Ruth Parks (the late Samuel) Newby and Kate Parks (Morris) King, both of N.C., a brother-in-law, Charles W. Mitchell and a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen (Elvin) Kelley, all of Simpsonville, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006, a son, Walter Allen Mitchell in 1960, and a sister, Vera Parks (the late John) Storey in 2013. In recent years Mary was able to stay in her own home with the help of Customized Companion Care and Hospice of the Upstate, her wonderful, thoughtful church family, friends and neighbors, and her special caregivers, Linda Baker and Lottie Cabbagestalk.
The service was held Saturday, July 27 at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Alive Wesleyan Church in Central. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens. Contributions in Mary’s honor may be made to either the Allen and Virgil Mitchell Fund of the Wesleyan Church and sent to the SC District of the Wesleyan Church, PO Box 27275, Greenville, SC 29616 or to the Nicholson-Mitchell Center, Southern Wesleyan University, PO Box 1020, Central, SC 29630.

Milton L. Kelley
Central — After several years of declining health, Milton Leo Kelley of Central died July 27 at home with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Frank and Ila Woodson Kelley. He was a former employee with Pratt-Read Company in Central and retired from the Pickens County School District. Milton was a lifelong, dedicated member of Welcome Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was respected by all who were blessed to know him because of his Godly character and humble spirit.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bobbie Brooks Kelley and their five children; Beth (Tony) McGee of Central, Teresa Morgan of Summerville, Greg (Teresa) Kelley of Rowlett, Texas, Anthony (Kim) Kelley of Clemson, Noel (Susan) Kelley of Central; 10 grandchildren, Tricia (Chris) Gill, Jonathan (Carrie) Rampey, Cindy (Mark)Peace, Matt (Ana) Morgan, Ashley (Brent) Guffee, Michael (Dani) Kelley, Quentin Kelley, Cooper Kelley, Ryan Kelley and Ethan Kelley; seven great grandchildren, Keaton Gill, Tyler Peace, Caroline Morgan, Jackson Morgan, Carter Morgan, Mattison Guffee and Lucas Guffee; two brothers, Grady Kelley of Seneca and Dalton Kelley of Hendersonville, N.C.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Kelley was predeceased in death by a son, Keith Kelley; brothers; Nathan Kelley, Tony Kelley, Andrew Kelley, Crayton Kelley, Glen Kelley, and Marshall Kelley; and his sister, Grace Kay.
Funeral services were 2 p.m., Monday at Welcome Baptist Church, Central. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Bo Brooks
Easley — Bowen Dalford “Bo” Brooks, 89, of 1850 Crestview Road, died Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Capstone Health & Rehab.
Born in Pickens he was the widower of Maybel Wardlaw Brooks and a son of the late George Washington and Maggie Morgan Brooks. He was a painter for many years. He loved spending time with his family and he loved to whistle.
Surviving are a daughter, Judy Pritchett (Bill) of Dallas, N.C.; two sons, Larry Brooks (Jan) of Gastonia, N.C., and Billy Brooks (Kim) of Kings Mountain, N.C.; three step daughters, Doris Holcombe of Liberty, Betty Plumbley of Easley, and Joyce York of Norris; a sister, Nell Posey of Greenville; a brother, Ray Brooks of Easley; 26 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son, Henry Lee Brooks, two step daughters, Susie Black and Faye Stegall, four sisters, and three brothers.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Sunrise Cemetery in Pickens.

Devon Graham
Easley — Devon Dewayne Graham, 4, of 145 Daisy Drive, died on Sunday, July 21, 2013.
Born in Greenville he was the son of Charles Dewayne and Tina Lynn Graham. He would have been attending 4K at Dacusville Elementary School this year.
Surviving in addition to his mother and father are a brother, Christopher Connor Dewayne Graham of the home; grandparents: Shirley Varnadore of Liberty, Russell Nabors of Easley; great grandparents, Oliver Sanders of Travelers Rest, Rose Nabors of Easley; 12 aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Charles Graham, Vickie Nabors and Papa Jim; great grandparents, John & Emily Collins, and Mary Batson; and one uncle, John Collins.

Easley — Timothy Lee “Timmy” Graham, 7, of 145 Daisy Drive, died on Sunday, July 21, 2013.

Lucille Hunter
Liberty – Lucille Posey Hunter, 82, of 207 Apple Drive, died Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Liberty she was a daughter of the late Walter and Lucy Smith Posey. She worked at Woodside Mill and T.E. Jones & Sons of Liberty. She attended Golden Grove Wesleyan Church. She loved sewing, gardening and crafts of all kinds.
Surviving are her husband, John B. Hunter, Sr. of the home; a son, Bennett Hunter (Judy) of Liberty; three daughters, Kathy Smith (Greg) of Easley, Leesa Brothers (Bill) of Liberty, and Tracie Hunter of Central; a brother, Melvin Posey of Liberty; three grandchildren, Sandee Smith, William Brothers (Chelsea), and Kimberly Hunter; eight great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Ella Louise Posey, and two brothers, Raymond Paul Posey and Walter Posey, Jr.
Funeral services to honor Mrs. Hunter’s life were 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial was at Liberty Memorial Gardens.

Ed Hutton, Sr.
Pickens – Edward William Hutton, Sr., husband of Rovern Kindle Hutton, died peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at The Inn in Seneca.
Born in Dearborn, Mich. he was a son of the late Jesse and Bessie Hiatt Hutton. Mr. Hutton graduated from Bob Jones University with a B.S. degree in business, and owned and operated General Insurance & Real Estate in Pickens. He raised Hereford Cattle, and was Past-President and former Treasurer of the Hereford Association. He served on the South Carolina Beef Board, was a longtime Rotarian in Pickens, and was also a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Esther Aiken (Ed), and Sarah Heichel (Lary) all of Pickens; three sons, Ed Hutton, Jr. (Diane) of Seneca, Tom Hutton (Teresa) of Easley, and Jim Hutton (Susan) of Pickens; 20 grandchildren.
Cryptside services to honor Mr. Hutton’s life were 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 31 at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Edith N. Few
Pickens – Edith Nix Few, 100, of Few Drive, wife of the late Ignatius Leo Few, died Friday, July 26, 2013 at her home.
Born in Salem on Feb. 28, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Claude Baker Nix and Clara Grogan Nix. She was a graduate of Six Mile Academy and Draughn’s Business College. Mrs. Few was retired from Sangamo Electric and was formerly employed with Attorney W.C. Mann and Gayley Mills. She was the oldest living member of Grace UMC, member of the Artie Gravely Circle, and the Adult Fellowship Class. She was an avid Gardner with the ability to grow the most beautiful flowers which she shared with family, friends and church. She was a member of the Better Homes and Garden Club.
Surviving members of her immediate family are Faye Nix Jay of Greenville, two brothers, James Nix of Six Mile, and Ray Nix and wife Sadie of Pickens.
Surviving are her children, Carolyn Few Yarborough of Columbia, Elaine Few Alvarez of Orlando, Fla., Judith Few Pope and husband Marion of Canton, Ga. and Ronald Leo Few of the home; nine grandchildren, William Terrell Yarborough and wife Joy, Timothy Lee Yarborough, Elizabeth Caroline Yarborough, Jr., Lauren Yarborough Moore and husband Jeffrey, Michelle Grdijan Fornam and husband Ronnie, John Grdijan, III; M. Thomas Pope III and wife Meredith, Jonathan Andrew Pope and wife Amy, and Jennifer Leah Pope; 13 great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother Winfred Nix, and two sisters, Ethel Nix Ellenburg and Janie Nix Hughes.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Few’s life was held on Monday, July 29 at 12 p.m. at Grace UMC. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Lois Stewart Smith
Easley – Lois Stewart Smith, 81, of Easley, died Saturday, July 27, 2013 at her home.
Born in Pickens County, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Rev. James Edward Stewart and Lola Watt Stewart. She was a Methodist, and she retired from the Dunean Plant of J.P. Stevens after more than 40 years of service. She was devoted to her family, and her favorite pastime was working in her yard.
Surviving are a son, Craig Smith of Easley; a daughter, Joan Crick (Wayne) of Mauldin; a sister, Marjorie S. Hendricks of Pickens; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her husband, Robert Manuel Smith; a son, Bobby Smith; three brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
