TERESA ANN REECE

PICKENS — Teresa Ann Reece, 57, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Born Nov. 1, 1966, in Anderson, Teresa was the daughter of the late James Edward Dodgens and Patsy Ann Dove. Mrs. Reece enjoyed camping, listening to old country music, coloring and doing word searches. She especially liked to get together with friends and family and socializing. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Hope Caldwell (Robert G) of Pickens; two sons, Cody Reece (Julie) and Jody Reece (Malary), both of Liberty; stepdaughter, Nikki George; six grandchildren, Trenton Caldwell, Kayleigh Caldwell, Brenton Reece, Karla Gilliard, Colby Williams and Arihana Reece; four stepgrandchildren, Brendon, Hunter, Madison and Audrey; two sisters, Pebbles Nabors (Phillip) of Six Mile and Denise Rowland (Nate) of Seneca; three brothers, Wallace Gambrell (Tina) of Easley, Ricky Dodgens (Angie) of Pickens and Gene McCall of Six Mile; and a lifelong friend, Ronald Reece.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Reece was predeceased by a sister, Diane Franks; a brother, Lamar Gambrell; and a special companion, Jack Carbaugh.

The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.

GLENDA SHOCKLEY HOYLE

EASLEY — Glenda Shockley Hoyle, 80, wife of the late Dr. Larry Dean Hoyle, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024.

Born in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Nov. 12, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Joe and Mae Shockley. She was a graduate of Southern Wesleyan University and had a masters in education from Winthrop University.

Glenda was a woman of God and always strived to put Him first in everything she did. She had a deep calling to serve others. After she retired, she enjoyed traveling the world and taking short-term mission trips, visiting 29 different mission fields with the Wesleyan Church. Beyond her love for missions, she was also a sports enthusiast. She loved her Atlanta Braves and Gamecocks! She also enjoyed working puzzles, listening to gospel music and visiting and collecting lighthouses.

Glenda retired from the School District of Pickens County after teaching for 28 years. She was a long-time member of Pickens View Wesleyan Church.

Glenda is survived by her four children, Dean Hoyle (Tiffany) of Louisburg, Kan., Reggie Hoyle of Columbia, Deanna Stanley (Daniel) of Pickens and Marc Hoyle (Ellen) of Simpsonville; her grandchildren, Zoe Stanley Kurtz (Alex), Jackson Hoyle, Isaac Stanley (Ainsley), Jarret Hoyle, Wyatt Hoyle, Gavin Stanley, Ford Hoyle and Aiden Hoyle; and great-grandchildren, Palmer, Wilder and Wren Kurtz.

In addition to her husband and parents, Glenda was predeceased by her brother, Bobby Shockley.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the Willows of Easley for their compassionate care of Glenda over the last couple years.

A memorial service for Glenda was held on Sept. 20 at Pickens View Wesleyan Church. A private burial service was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton, N.C. SHIRLEY GRINDSTAFF

EASLEY — Mrs. Shirley Clark Grindstaff, 81, wife of the late Dallas Wayne Grindstaff, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024.

Born in Carter County, Tenn., a daughter of the late Sam Clark and the late Nola Woods Clark, Mrs. Grindstaff was a CNA with St. Francis Hospital-Downtown for more than 25 years and attended New Foundation Church.

Shirley enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach. She just loved enjoying life. She will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Surviving are her three daughters, Vickie Slemp (James) of Mauldin, Angela Thomas of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Tammy Long (Sam) of Mooresboro, N.C.; her son, Darrell Grindstaff (Kari) of Easley; her brother, Lloyd Clark (Patsy) of Kingsport, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Nicholas Holliday (Lucy), William Thomas (Sarah), Kayleigh Grindstaff and Kaycee Grindstaff; and three great-grandchildren, Liam Thomas, Myla Jo Holliday and Lily Louise Holliday.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Grindstaff was predeceased by a grandson, Nathaniel Thomas, and a sister, Wanda Julian.

The family will host a memorial service at a later date.

RODNEY DEAN WILSON

LIBERTY — Mr. Rodney Dean Wilson, 78, was called to be with his Lord and Savior, on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Wilson was born in Pickens on April 1, 1946, to the late Alma and Ruby Young Wilson. He was a graduate of Easley High School and had a career as a traffic engineer with the South Carolina Department of Transportation for more than 30 years. He was a proud member of Cedar Rock Baptist Church, where his beloved friend Wayne Garmon is senior pastor.

Mr. Wilson is survived by a blended family, including two daughters, Kelly Nelms (Jim) and Allison Wilson; four stepchildren, Angie Gillespie, Jennifer Reid, Randy Youngblood and Michael Youngblood; 10 grandchildren; and a special friend, Linda Davenport.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann Wilson.

A celebration of Rodney’s life is planned for 6 p.m. Oct. 4 at Cedar Rock Baptist Church, located at 1667 Cedar Rock Church Road in Easley.

The inurnment of Rodney’s cremains will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Easley by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cedar Rock Baptist Church.

JOHNNIE FRANK BURNS

SIX MILE — Johnnie Frank Burns, 78, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2024, at PruittHealth – Pickens in Six Mile.

Born April 10, 1946, Johnnie was the son of the late Jack Burns and Ollie Burns. Mr. Burns enjoyed camping and fishing. He also enjoyed putting together puzzles, coloring and building toy farmhouses. Johnnie loved holidays, especially Easter and Christmas.

Survivors include his friend and caretaker, Lola Rowland of Liberty; and three nephews, Eddie Burns of Berea, Jeff Burns of Pickens and David Knight of Liberty.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Burns was predeceased by his siblings, Jack Burns Jr., Betty Knight, Shirley Darby, Larry Burns and Judy Burns.

A memorial service for Mr. Burns will be held at a later date.
