Liberty wreck claims woman’s life

LIBERTY — A Greenwood woman was killed in a wreck on Ruhamah Road in Liberty last week.

At around 11:24 p.m. last Wednesday night, authorities were called to the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Ruhamah Road. According to an incident report, on arrival a police officer found a woman lying in the roadway. The woman told him she had been involved in an accident and a man and woman were still in the vehicle, which the officer identified as a green Chevrolet truck on its side about 50 feet off the road next to a telephone pole. The officer said the man was standing at the vehicle trying to get a woman in the truck to wake up.

After EMS was unable to find vital signs on the woman, Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley was called to the scene.

Kelley said Maranda Nicole Bice, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene. Bice was not wearing a seatbelt, Kelley said.

The other two occupants of the vehicle were transported to Greenville Hospital System.

Kelley said the accident was under investigation by the Liberty Police Department and the coroner’s office.
