KYLE THORNALL

EASLEY — Kyle Thornall, 37, of Easley, passed away Oct. 25, 2024. He was born in Summerville on Nov. 28, 1986.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Kyle can attest that his sense of humor was so contagious. It should have come with a warning label. His jokes and smile could make you laugh endlessly, paired with a man who would give you the shirt off his back.

Kyle, a successful business owner in the Easley and Greenville area, could sell anything and was always ready for the next big thing. A good friend of Kyle’s said it best, “Kyle lived in the moment and was one of a kind.” He used motivation and hard work to build what he has, while bringing his family and friends along for the ride.

Kyle is survived by his wife, Whitney Thornall of Easley; their children, Kylie, Mason, Karson and Baylee; his mother, Lisa Lemmons (Brian); brothers, Jairrid Peace (Krystal), Cory Thornall and Kris Beard (Sarah); along with many nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends. Kyle was predeceased by his father, Barry Thornall.

Kyle was a devoted husband and father. His love for his wife and children was apparent to any and everyone. He was a fiercely protective and loyal man.

A service to celebrate Kyle’s life was held at the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown on Nov. 1. Burial followed at Robinson Memorial Gardens in Easley.

JAMES ALTON GRAHAM

EASLEY — Mr. James Alton Graham, 81, of Easley, went to join his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024.

Alton was born in Alpine, Ala., to the late James David and Edith Mary Chapman Graham.

Alton grew up in Greenville, where he graduated from Parker High School in 1961 before joining the U.S. Army. It was at Parker High School where he met his wife of 60 years, Marian Watson Graham. After his service in the Army, Alton worked in the heavy equipment parts business with Stone Heavy Vehicle Specialists for many years before retiring from Fleet Pride of Greenville. Alton was an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed spending his time golfing, hunting and fishing with family and friends. He loved his family, and he was proud to serve his country.

In addition to his wife, Marian, Alton is survived by his two children, Scott Graham (Jennifer) of Easley and Amy Graham Metcalf (Shane) of Easley; grandchildren, Clayton Graham, Libby Metcalf, Katherine Graham and Mary Lorraine Metcalf; and a sister, Judy Graham Abercrombie.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 1 at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home in Pickens. Interment followed the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

FRED WILLIAM OWENS

EASLEY — Fred William Owens, 98, husband of the late Lillian Parsons Owens, of Easley, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024.

Mr. Owens was born in Pickens County, a son of the late Jim and Wilhelmina Cooper Owens. He graduated from Easley High School and was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for almost 40 years. He was a member of St. Andrew Methodist Church, where he served on various boards, including as church treasurer.

A gifted athlete, Mr. Owens was the top-ranked tennis player in the state of S.C. in his age group at age 50 and again at age 80, and he won multiple medals in the Senior Olympic Competition, including the national championship in three-man basketball. Mr. Owens was one of the founding members of the Easley Tennis Club and started the tennis program at Easley High School, where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.

He also served as social director at the Litchfield Country Club’s Tennis Center and volunteered with United Christian Ministries for more than 25 years. Mr. Owens served with the Army National Guard.

Surviving are his two sons, Tony J. Owens (Leslie) of Greenville and Phil D. Owens (Lynn) of Easley; his daughter, Barbara O. Goggans (Steve) of Pawley’s Island; six grandchildren, Jill Owens, Diana Owens, Heath Owens, Adrienne Dail, Graham Goggans and Stevie Claire Goggans; and four great-grandchildren, Quentin, Owen, Theodore and Molly.

In addition to his loving wife of 65 years, Mr. Owens was predeceased by a son, David William Owens; brothers, Ned and Leon Owens; and a sister, Jane Patterson.

Memorial services were held on Nov. 2 at St. Andrew Methodist Church.

PEARLE FOWLER DALTON

MARIETTA — Pearle Fowler Dalton, 96, passed away on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 18, 1927, in Pickens County, Pearle was the daughter of the late William C. Fowler and Nettie Morton Fowler. Mrs. Dalton was a member of Dacusville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed good food, traveling and antiques, and had a great sense of humor. She was a loyal friend and very protective of her family. She loved her family dearly and really enjoyed their Sunday family visits.

Survivors include her children, Shirley Ballard of Dacusville and Carroll Dalton (Julia), Brian Dalton (Lisa) and Kevin Dalton, all of Marietta; grandchildren, Ethan Ballard of Greenville, Wendy Fisher of Greenville, Erica Richards (Jon) of Dacusville, Clay Dalton (Alicia) of Marietta, Chad Dalton of Marietta, Craig Dalton (Madison) of Marietta and Gretchen Were (Douglas) of Clarksville, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Julia, Avery, Reed, Anthony, Olivia and two on the way; and many close and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dalton was predeceased by her husband, J.B. Dalton; brothers, James C. Fowler and Ray C. Fowler; son-in-law, Elliott Ballard; and daughter-in-law, Gail Dalton.

Funeral services were held Nov. 4 ing the sanctuary of Dacusville United Methodist Church with. Burial followed the service at the Dacusville United Methodist Church cemetery.

CYNTHIA MICHELE MCJUNKINS MOORE

PICKENS — Cynthia Michele McJunkins Moore, 63, of Pickens, went to Heaven on Oct. 24, 2024.

Cindy was born in Fresno, Calif., to the late Charles T. McJunkins and Loretta R. Long McJunkins.

Cindy’s life was centered around her family. She loved her life on the farm with her husband of 40 years, Jerry Lee Moore, a love that grew instantly from the first time they met.

Cindy had a deep appreciation for nature and could bring a plant of any kind back to health by nurturing them and growing her plants from seeds into beautiful blooms. She assisted Jerry with their farm animals and was instrumental in building their home together. An avid cook, she loved experimenting with new recipes every week.

Cindy was also a talented artist, creating stunning paintings and drawings, and she embraced every new adventure with enthusiasm. Becoming “Nana” in 1995 was one of her greatest joys. She cherished and spoiled her grandchildren, delighting in buying gifts throughout the year and starting her Christmas stash well in advance. Her nieces and nephews held her in high regard, knowing they could always count on her love and support.

Cindy is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry Lee Moore of Pickens; daughter, Misty Longino (Christopher) of Taylors; son, Brent Moore of Pickens; five grandchildren, Corine Sierra Jenkins (Michael), Mackenzie Moore, Brayden Moore, Emma Galbreath and Charlie Galbreath; one great-grandson, Michael Anthony Jenkins III; and her sister, Lisa Murphy of Easley. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Loretta McJunkins; daughter, Laurisa Anelle Galbreath; grandson, Nathaniel Xavier Johnson, two brothers, Charles Steven McJunkins and Jewell Thomas McJunkins; and a sister, Laura Ellen Frilick.

JANET BRISSEY

PICKENS — Janet Brissey, 49, passed away on Nov. 2, 2024, at her home.

A native of Pickens County, Janet was born on June 18, 1975, to Mildred Brissey and the late Furman Brissey. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Janet loved long walks, listening to music, all animals and collecting and painting rocks with her grandchildren.

Janet is survived by her mother, Mildred Brissey; children, Stephanie Brissey of Six Mile, Michaela Tant of Liberty, Brianna Tant of Central, Jeremy Tant of Liberty and Sierra Tant of Central; grandchildren, Hope, Everleigh, Josias, Lukas, McKenzie and Bentley; siblings, Louise Hughes, Rosa Honeycutt, Johnny Brissey and Lisa Brissey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff Tant.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

EVA MAE ROACH

EASLEY — Mrs. Eva Mae Hanvey Roach, 92, wife of the late Otis LaBorde Smith and the late Clarence Roach, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, Nov. 1, 2024.

Born in Anderson County, a daughter of the late John Hanvey and the late Nettie King Hanvey, Mrs. Roach retired from Pic n Pay Shoes with 27 years of service and was a member of Easley Church of God, where she served as the previous church pianist, as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir.

She lived a full life and loved spending time with her family.

Mrs. Roach will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Surviving are her children, Kathy Grant of Easley, Gary W. Smith (Parker) of Anderson and Donna R. Smith (Kevin) of Easley; her brother, Curtis Hanvey of Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Mildred Smith of Laurens; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands and parents, Mrs. Roach was predeceased by two daughters, Joyce Metz and Dot Thacker; two brothers, Carl Hanvey and J.T. Hanvey; eight sisters, Velma Spearman, Ruth Guice, Edith Vest, Sue Smith, Gaynelle Ball, Grace Burke, Addie Louise Lothridge and Earline Patterson; and one grandchild, Jonathan Williams.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 4 at Easley Church of God. Burial followed at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens in Woodruff.

HAROLD B. HENDRIX

PICKENS — Harold B. Hendrix, 71, husband to Frances Hendrix of 49 years, passed away on Nov. 2, 2024, at his home.

A native of Pickens County, Harold was born on Aug. 2, 1953, to the late Geory and Louise Hendrix.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; one daughter, Rebecca Hendrix of Pickens; and three brothers.

In addition to his parents, Harold was predeceased by three brothers.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

JERRY MCLELLEN SLOAN

EASLEY — Jerry McLellen Sloan, 83, of Easley, devoted husband of Ginger Hyatt Sloan, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024, at his home.

Born in Mecklenburg County, N.C., he was a son of the late Houston J. and Ruby Helms Sloan. Jerry led a life full of kindness and warmth, touching the hearts of all who knew him. He graduated from East Mecklenburg High School, Class of 1959, and enjoyed a successful career, retiring as a store manager for Glidden Paint.

His dedication to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family and friends. Jerry was known for his gentle and outgoing personality. He was a devoted husband, and his love for others was evident in the way he interacted with everyone around him. People were drawn to him, and he brought joy to countless lives. In his leisure time, Jerry found solace and inspiration in his faith. He loved watching Christian TV shows and made it a daily practice to read his Bible. He was an active member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, where he contributed his time and faith as part of The Faithful Servants Sunday School Class.

In addition to his loving wife of 33 years, Jerry is survived by a son, Michael G. Sloan of Wingate, N.C.; a daughter, Shelley Sloan Rice of Charlotte, N.C.; a grandson, Travis Nye of Charlotte; a brother-in-law, Pastor Harold Hyatt (Mary Ellen) of Henderson, Texas; and a great-niece, Jessica Nicole Owen (Steven) of York.

The family will receive friends from 10-11:15 a.m. Nov. 9 at Rock Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow the service at the church cemetery.
